How to fold the Scottish kilt fly plaid

How to fold a Fly Plaid

While there is no set rule on how to fold a fly plaid, I have found this to be the easiest and the best looking (in my opinion) way to fold a ply plaid. The fly plaid shown is 54 x 54. If yours is more rectangular, it will still work. Follow these instructions
1. Fold one corner to another to make a triangle
2. With the folded edge in front of you do the following:
a. Take the folded edge and fold it up and slightly to your left so it lines up with the fringe that would be on the left side of the triangle.
b. Then, take that same fold and fold it backwards
c. Use your hand in between those two folds to push it up so it lines up with the fringe.
3. Remember: You are looking at the back side of the plaid. When you go to pin it, fold the smallest/least wide side over in front of you and pin all 3 layers. Leave about 12 inches between the end of the fly plaid and your pin
4. Do not pin it to your jacket. Most kilt jackets have epaulets on the shoulders. Once you fit it through there on your left shoulder, it will stay put without having to physically pin it there. If you don’t have epaulets then you will want to pin it to the jacket
