I had a very elderly black neighbor years ago who I spent a lot of time with, chatting. She was funny and so sweet. Well, one day she saw me bringing out cut up slices of watermelon to feed my kids a treat outside. She said she didnt know that white folks ate watermelon. 😳 I said "yes ma'am, and greens too!" (Esp collards.) I thought it was funny. She was so amazed. To be fair, she and her late husband had raised their children downtown in a black neighborhood and had not had much contact with white folks. I grew up in a very diverse neighborhood, so I thought all people ate whatever they liked. After that, she shared some of her best recipes with me. I loved her like a grandma.
Hoorah for you!!! Its always good to have 2 or 3 grammies...lots of pie recipes so the chillin grow up nice and sweet...
@@getredytagetredy it IS nice to have older folks to talk to, and listen to their stories. Idk about the "chillins" remark. I think it's rude. She was an American, born and bred, same as me. She talked the same way I do. She raised a son who became a teacher and later a high school principal, and a daughter who was an executive before she started her own company. Don't try to make her sound like a "mammy" stereotype. That's just wrong and hateful.

In this scene Johnny's mom came to help him out because he's basically broke after losing a big horse race. Neighbor comes by to share the chicken so they don't starve. That's why she's so excited. BTW Johnny's next step is embezzlement because he was broke. The film is a crime drama...

They're basically saying " We were so poor we took charity from the negroes." This would be the same kind of justification John Wick uses to kill 100s of people because one person killed his dog. Makes the audience justify every action after. Pretty deep

He put his acting interest on the shelf to serve in ww1 at the age of 15. Moved up in rank. Stayed in the army to close to age 40 when he retired. Then picked his acting interest back off the shelf and dusted it off and stayed busy in the field until the 1970s. In the 30s and 40s, he wrote many African American movies

How can anybody not like chicken? It's one of the greatest foods in the world. And what's all this about black people liking chicken? Everybody loves chicken.

Many stereotypes are applied to what we eat, some by history. For example, as former slaves, we were given scraps that former slave owners did not eat such as chitterlings and salt pork. "Black people survived on what was given to us as well as maintaining our own little gardens and killing animals in the woods. Our ancestors managed to "dress them up" (chitterlings) to make them tasteful and pleasing to the palate. Today, chitterlings are thought of as what our people ate as slaves and a "delicacy" as well as being SOLD now. Yep, once it was discovered that money could be made by things that formerly held no monetary value, up went the $ signs. Now physicians are saying that chitterlings are one of the causes of high blood pressure in our diet. Yet, chitterlings are still being sold. A while back, on a personal mission, I began to explore some of the "historical" and current foods that we eat. One of them was chitterlings. I discovered that many of our ancestors lived well past their "golden years" and old heads today, eat chitterlings and aside from aging, have NO significant or outlying health problems. I have never eaten chitterlings, be your own judge. How food is "processed" today, does play a role in maladies that effect us health-wise. And I HAVE observed people of other races that eat chicken, salt-pork, chitterlings, water melon, etc. yet these stereotypes are. not applied to THEIR race. "Down south" as it is referenced, both black and white races cook and eat these foods. Hmmm? Some of these very same foods that both black and whites have eaten historically. Imagine that.
I have no slaves in my family and I m black. Dont fall for that stereotype that we were all slaves

The real stereotype is making everyone believed that blacks in america were slaves when slavery was illegal up until 1888 or so that and Christopher Columbus didnt discover America. So the whole setting of what we percieve as going on is the stereotype the rest is just good ole life

Put population to the side and tell me who will and who will continue to have the majority of the wealth, power, elected officials and privilege in this country. Every year I see black men exonerated after decades in prison. Unless you foolishly think the tread will not continue that means someone in prison right now will be released decades from now because systemic racism rather than actually committing a crime. Have you looked at the elected officials? It doesn't matter by the majority of the population if it's not reflected in the elected officials. Do you actually think that pay for prison pipeline will not continue to sustain their appetite for bodies with a greater percentage of the incarcerated having brown skin? Don't celebrate before you get to the finish line!

Actions speak louder than words. His actions towards the Central Park Five. His inaction to condemn the white racist who killed Heather Hyer in Charlottesville. His insistence that Obama show his birth certificate and he has test to reveal his taxes are proof enough. Then here are the reports of Trump regularly using racial slurs against blacks on the set of the apprentice. The fact that many of the actions taken by his cabinet and the federal judges he has assigned are directly targeting African-Americans with the goal of complete disenfranchisement make it clear to me that he is the most racist president America has had since Andrew Jackson.
Who cares, hes against illegal mexicans. That helps us black people get more jobs and many mexican gangs are racist and target blacks on west coast for killing.
