The Trout Inn (1963)

- Oxford, Oxfordshire.
C/Us of a Butcher who works inside a pub called "The Trout Inn". Customers can choose the piece of steak of fish they wish to eat. Butcher carves cuts of meat and a woman in a great orange coat chooses a piece of lamb. These shots could be used to show women shopping for meat in the early 60s. Chef puts cuts of meat on the griddle. C/Us of the vegetables on offer too. A new dining experience.
L/S of the Trout Inn - picturesque shots of the Inn which is beside a river. It is winter and there is snow all around. A customer arrives by boat to the Inn, goes inside and choses a piece of smoked salmon. Chef prepares it.
Good C/Us of cooked fish and plates of food. Group of country gentlemen sitting in the bar. One of the men demonstrates an old fashioned way of "mulling ale". He takes a poker off the hot fire and holds it in his pint. This warms the beer. (Cheesy sound effect!) Narrator makes a few jokes about students of learning (suggesting that the older men at the bar are students of drinking basically). One man looks at the rowing plaques on the wall.
Harry Worth and Peter Butterworth - regular customers at the inn - do a bit of comic business. They choose a cut of meat each and it is weighed. They swap seats when they are given the wrong steaks (but they take their plates with them so it defeats the object). Landlord stands behind the bar and smiles as they drink their pints.
Note: according to paperwork the butcher's name is Jack Malandain. Harry Worth and Peter Butterworth were appearing in Goldilocks. Landlord is Keith Mackenzie. Cuts exist - see separate record.
Amendment February 2012: A visitor to the website has provided more information. The exact filming location is Godstow Road, Wolvercote, Oxford.

da bekommt richtig Appetit….und das ganze ist auch noch urgemütlich
Just found the channel. Great content. People need to get back to this.
This place is still open, that's awesome! I would want to go 👌
it't the restaurant in the saint movie 1997
Almost makes me want to enroll at Oxford.
You'd have to learn how to spell enrol first.
@@bobupen6476You first.
@@youtubelibrary990 If you look carefully and then consider things, you'll see that's exactly what I did.
Classic Doctor Who fans should recognize Peter Butterworth, who played the treacherous Monk--a kind-of precursor to the Master.
Widely known from the "Carry On" films as well!
Fond memories of Peter Butterworth as Mr Fiddler, Citizen Bidet and Monsieur Pepe in the Carry Ons. Much missed.
I grew up with Classic Who! ... Apparently, New Who is struggling in the ratings! ... Good! I hate it! ... Hopefully, it'll be cancelled? And I never thought I'd say that! 🤣
Sid Boggle: "How much Mr Fiddler?" Mr Fiddler: "Pound." Superb@@stephenguppy7882
It’s still going strong today 🥂
Quite surreal but wonderful
Been there and lovely setting. Think it was Inspector Morse local? Another Trout Inn in Cockermouth is in similar setting. Great traditional British pubs! 😎
The two women really love how he handles meat
Fantastic!❤❤🇬🇧
Proper 'butchers' shop!. Hanging meats and no plastic or cellophane in sight!.....
That's pretty cool.
The first track playing in this is Swing 'N Sway by Anthony Mawer from the Dewolfe Library.
Look at that sheet copper canopy 😮
Used to eat there a lot in the eighties. Morse land.
Как среди таких вкусностей кот спит спокойно?
Makes your mouth water. Wonderful fare.
Very fancy butcher
Oh, it looks so delicious
This made me hungry
Why, oh why, aren't all pubs like this?
Check out the website of The Trout Inn today.
Love and peace.
The England I knew and loved. Not any more, sadly.
Privileged white folks.
So sad for you: the world moved on and left you behind.
@@1Clearwords @1Clearwords No, the world lurched sideways and was hit by a 100-ton truck. I stayed on the sidewalk.
BTW,
Definition of a left winger? Someone obsessively driven to disrupt social tranquillity in a vainglorious (and futile) attempt to create Shangri-La.
@@1Clearwords Actually the UK is going to pot because of idiots like you
I lived for 10 years in the 1980s and 90s in the UK and never saw meat or poultry of that quality in any restaurant I went to or worked at.
The quality of food was one of my biggest disappointments of living in the UK . if you wanted a good meal you’d go down to the channel crossover to a hypermarket then when you got back cook up something nice.British stores centre to sell second quality goods.
Nonsense ! it’s still there serving wonderful food as of 2024 😊
This was the restaurant where they filmed the Saint in 1997 with val kilmer and elisabeth shue
0:58 LOL - weighing 4 mushrooms that he's about to cook
Wasn't that pub Inspector Morse's favourite pub ?
Never more!
02:58 Mr Fiddler......Pound!....

Wow
MY GOD, look at those damn portion sizes and cheap to boot.
Yu be my valentine day
Where is Mister Cholmondley-Warner?
Know your place woman🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
not a single pinch of salt in site :(
❤❤❤
Just imagine the food inspectors of today mulling over that single chopping board for all meat and fish and whatever else was cut, sliced or chopped for a meal to be served. I bet no one ever got sick here though.
And. And. And. Just look at those Pork chops. No bits of very sharp sawn bone here to jab your mouth and insides or break your teeth, a cut straight between the bones just like it once was until someone realised that they could use a saw to make them thinner and sell them by each not weight, thus doubling the profit (probably American marketing). That was what happened in Australia until it became illegal to sell by each and the real weight was to be charged for meat, apples and other food produce.
This will never exist again. And there are people out there that want it that way due to intense jealousy.
wth you're yapping about, this kind of place still exists, especially seafood restaurants all around the globe still do this, some high end steak house still let you pick your own meat
Wha? Who?
@@linus4108 But I mean the whole atmosphere.
@@alanrogs3990these are just posh people living in posh area. That still exists today mate
@@chrisstucker1813 I don't think it exists like this today. But I could be wrong.
👍👏👏😋

Arrr the days before mobile phones, titanium implants, micro plastics and GMO. Such uncivilized and inconvenient times.
Hi
Хм... Я надеюсь, всё это мясо копчёное и солёное, и поэтому оно не хранится в холодильнике, да ещё и продавец руки не моет после нарезки вроде сырого мяса?

Anyone else here after reading 'la belle sauvage"?
No, never heard of it, is it a novel? I'd like to read it. I was watching a Pathe film on Shipphams Paste in my city, Chichester and then this was recommended.
