    That final conversation was very poignant. It's a conversation I've been having a lot recently. Thank you Paulee for the raw honesty and thank you Nick for a thought provoking and empathetic show. 🙂

      Yeah Paulee had some honest points. I remember the scene he described. The bands had to battle to get promotion. No regrets of course.

    Really some great stuff here. I think doing a whole bit just about live would be good. Live music is still a really hot area in the business at the moment. Specifically in the summer months.

    Touring with a band in a van, setting up, playing the gig, partying, then on to the next location the next morning hungover and hungry, that was awesome and I'm glad I've experienced it.

      It’s an experience I craved for years and never had. I do have the few times I gigged outside of my city though, though these were disparate single nights spread over years. I guess it could be seen as an extremely slow tour so I’ll have to hang on to that 😂

    Rich has seen it happen and delivers the truth on the live scene with empathy. So many of us even described as hobbyists (rightfully I guess) put in so much of ourselves and our money to keep the scene going.

    According to a friend of mine on Facebook, who is a sound designer by profession and would have noticed it right away, Behringer Vintage is apparently just a repackaged AAS Ultra Analogue, with the addition of Behringer hype. Since it's free, I'm wondering if it is a pared down version, or perhaps Ultra Analogue VA-2 rather than the latest VA-3.🤷‍♂ If that all is the case, Behringer hasn't really branched out to do something entirely different to their usual MO, but just done some hidden licensing somewhere in the back office, also taking advantage of the fact that AAS isn't the best at marketing themselves.

    Lot's of live venues and pub's that did live music have closed . Covid lockdown pretty much wiped the floor in the UK . I know many bands have just split up as it's so bad on the live circuit. Most are paid just travel cost (if your lucky) . 10 years ago in some places you'd get a percentage of the bar but now a fair few people drink at home and the cost of a pint just about keeps the pub/venue open. Sad state of affairs in the UK for live music . Even the DJ market is just totally saturated now with DJs but obviously not live music.
    Oh and people building flats next to live venues that have been there for years and years who have to close because to noise pollution .. that really grinds my gears!!

      @Ratskank Před měsícem +2

      Couldn’t agree more…
      It’s almost like we need a new free festival & rave movement to ensure we can still have any kind of scene.
      Going to raves years ago and paying donations on the gate worked well for the crews.
      Get enough people together and any event is hard to shut down.
      Just takes organising and having the balls to do it 😊

    • @mrfeenix1
      @mrfeenix1 Před měsícem

      @@Ratskank I agree the Laws that were introduced killed off free events pushed it into clubs and small venues . Then the free festivals that were self policed (like the pubs ) made to have security on the doors which among other things cost money so no more free events. Even some of the small paid festivals got so popular they just become commercial and you start getting the "wrong" crowd introducing problems. There are still small crews in the UK that rent a bit of land set up a sound system and have small gatherings which have tickets just used for the use of the land etc but even that is becoming more problematic due to noise pollution complaints. Gorilla set ups are few and far between as having a 22K soundsystem confiscated by the Police is not sustainable 🤣

    re the guardian article, terrible that it leaves you with the message that the answer is government spending. The PROBLEM is government spending, taxing venues out of existence, driving up rents, expensive regulations, prohibitive insurance costs, ruinous legal liabilities. The answer to too much government isn’t MORE government, and taking more money away from working families and transferred to government approved and subsidized musical clients. We need cheap venues, not more regulated, more subsidized venues.

    • @user-bd8jb7ln5g
      @user-bd8jb7ln5g Před měsícem

      The other problem people are not discussing is the financialization of the economy. Money is becoming worthless along with assets exploding in price, including real estate. It's often more profitable for the venue owners to sell it for other development than to continue running it.

  • @Ratskank
    @Ratskank Před měsícem +1

    1:06:12 not to get all political, but in the UK at least, and as someone who works in a venue,
    I can say that our government has taxed the arse out of venues and they are also largely to blame for the death of gigs.
    We as the people need to go out and support, but venues are struggling with and without gigs just due to paying for everything that this involves.
    We pay our bands well. But that relies on us having a good crowd, as the bar take has to be Massively more than a usual Saturday, as it rarely is that massively more, the amount of gigs we put on is very small.
    But nobody wants to pay £10 on our door. So the alternative is to charge more for drinks, which we won’t do, as even less people will show up.
    Is a shitty situation but could be solved by people making the effort to go to small venues and spending a few quid, even for a band they’ve never heard of.
    The catch of that is that the cost of living crisis (the last decade + of Tory rule) has meant that people have to be picky about how they spend their money.
    No good way to win eh.
    FREE FESTIVALS AND RAVES EN MASSE FOR DONATIONS COULD SWAY THE BALANCE 🙏

      There is no single ‘correct’ estimate of migrants’ fiscal impact. Different studies make different assumptions, and not everyone will agree on what the best assumptions to make are (see ‘Understanding the Evidence,’ above). Studies examining the fiscal impact of migrants have produced different results, although in all cases, the impacts have been estimated at less than +1% or -1% of GDP.
      There are two points on which studies consistently agree. First, the fiscal impact of EEA migrants is more positive than that of non-EEA migrants; and second, that the impact of recent migrants is more positive than the impact of migrants overall.
