    I think wearing fun coloured/patterned socks can add a lot to your outfit. Of course you got to colour match it, but they are often a great conversation starter. I love art-inspired socks, for instance I wore a khaki summer suit with a white button up and cognac shoes/belt to my sister’s wedding, together with a very light/blue greenish pair of socks with a sunflower pattern inspired by Van Gogh.
    Or, when I need to wear a jacket (black) and tie (red with white pattern) to my student rowing club I have socks matching with the tie pattern which I wear with the traditional preppy combination of beige chinos.

    As for #10 and sock colors, I personally try to match my Socks to my shirt color. I have a light brown pair of Chukka's that I even sometimes swap in the colored laces to match my socks and shirt. Did this recently with a yellow button-down shirt, yellow socks, and yellow laces paired with dark jeans and had multiple comments about brightening up the room and once they noticed the socks and laces also matching they realized more thought went into brightening the room than just a shirt.

      I have tons of patterned colorful socks. I try to grab a pair that matches the majority of colors to the shoe and the pant and then I look at the shirt for the remaining. I'm the same way though, I've had people compliment my socks and not the expensive shoes they are tucked into lol. Oh and Chukka's are great to do that with because of how quick you can change laces.

    Good video. I agree with what you say except for the following two points.
    Shorts. I admit that I hardly ever wear them except in certain situations, such as when I'm at the gym or the beach. As an adult male, I tend to regard them as something usually worn in public by kids. When I do wear them on a hot summer's day, they tend to extend below the knee; anything shorter and I feel like a child. Having said that, most of the shorts I own are cargo pants.
    Logos. I concur that shirts with huge, ridiculous looking logos ought to be avoided. However, I like to wear Nike/Adidas track jackets on casual occasions. This "gopnik" look is fine, so long as the logo is on the top left corner and not emblazoned in the center of the jacket.

    Shorts are easy, just let them hit above your knee if you are normal or average build. The bigger your quads are and the more fit you are, you can move up a few inches from there. It's like how not every women can pull off yoga pants. btw, you actually showed a perfect way to do colored socks. I do this all of the time. The guy in the middle had striped socks that matched both his shoes and his trousers. I do it with stripes, herringbone, polka dots, houndstooth etc. Sometimes I get compliments on my socks and not my shoes lol

    Context is important.
    There's a time and place for some t-shirts with graphics. I have a selection of band shirts. These are great for shows or some nightclubs.
    Surprisingly, I've gotten more numbers from women when sporting my L7: Smell the Magic t-shirt than any other article of clothing.
    This is probably, because of the following:
    I'm relaxing and having a good time. This makes me more approachable.
    I'm in an environment people with similar tastes.
    L7 has always been predominantly female and all female since 1988.
    They were a founder of Rock for Choice.
    They have a somewhat tight fanbase.
    If I wore some of the graphics on display in the video. I wouldn't get a warm reception.

    Hi Antonio, and RMRS community. Working as a field service engineer ( messing with hand tools and sometimes getting your hands dirty) and taking 70+ flights a year, 6 foot 240lb 30yo, i struggle a lot on combining a classic style with versatility and comfort, as well as quality. So i end up relying on the company polo shirt which i find tacky and pair of levi’s jeans, running shoes and that’s it, overall a baggy and non well-fitted look. Any advice or recommendation is welcome

    • @kenIiam
      @kenIiam Před rokem +1

      I invite you to get your company shirt fitted, especially around the arms, and an athletic-fitted jean (4+ way stretch fabric). As for shoes in your field, perhaps a nice, rugged work boot or Chelsea boot would be the finishing touch. Hope that helps, Carlo!

    • @VidIan262009
      @VidIan262009 Před rokem +1

      Accessorize! Add a nice watch and maybe a men’s bracelet on your non-watch wrist. Add a nice belt (if you tuck in your polo), maybe one from Anson Belt and Buckle, which Antonio has mentioned a bunch. Nice shades/sunglasses.
      I second Ken’s suggestion of Chelsea boots. You could also get some ‘dress sneakers’. They’re dressy sneakers usually of a single color, made of leather, and omitting a large logo on the side.
      And, if you can pull it off, you could try rocking a flat cap on your noggin’. It’s dressier than a baseball cap and you can get away with wearing it indoors.
      Good luck!

      Short term/immediate: dark jeans, belt, dark casual shoes, if you can get a polo a size down (so it’s not bunchy), cover that with a quarter-zip pull over sweater
      Longer term (sorry - you asked): try to get down to something less than 240lbs, and you’ll have dozens more options.

    Yeah breaking up a suit is just an off look imo. The socks with sandals is not a look that works, I can understand it in the home, hey I wear Ugg moccasins around my home but I see people wearing them out to the shops and such, that is not a classy look at all. Another shoe look that definitely in my opinion that does not work is white tennis shoes with a suit, particularly a dark suit. Great tips on style there Antonio.

    In my twenties I lived in Italy, Torino, years 2003-2012). The girls told me there is a rule: men shall never show knees. Shorts must be always longer than a knee (except the swimming trunks) otherwise man looks like a kid on a school trip^^ So as you can see wearing a shorts as a man is a controversial topic. Adding to *Matt's* answer, suits are designed and made so they drape best when following those rules. That's been the case for decades.
      I took a look at some retro illustrations, and it appears that in the 1920s, the rule was to (usually) button all of the buttons. The transition seems to have happened from the 1930s through the 1950s. It also appears that the rule for single-breasted suits changed about a decade ahead of double-breasted suits.

    Long shorts came out of skater, hip-hop, and other subcultures in the 90s. As far as a suit, I think a blazer and nice pants are the minimum. The question is whether some people see blazer and slacks as controversial and under what conditions.

    You objected to "trying to wear black trousers with a blue jacket or blue trousers with a black jacket and passing that off as a suit." I'm sure nobody would do that and call it a "suit," because pretty much everyone knows a "suit" would be jacket and trousers of the same color. They're most likely trying to pass off the suit jacket as a sports coat. Your further points and explanation are well said. But I do have a classic blazer in black that I'll wear with blue or gray trousers. If I tried to wear it with black trousers, THAT would look like I was trying pass off a blazer as a suit.
    Another thing that's a personal quirk of mine: I was issued camouflage to wear when it was time to kill people. That will likely always be my mental association.
