How to cook chap chye (Peranakan mix vegetables dish)

  • CHAP CHYE (Chap means mix & chye means vegetables) it is a braised mixed vegetables recipe a Peranakan dish that has been pass down by grandma Rosie (Nonya) a Peranakan braised mix vegetables with a tauchu/soya bean paste base. This recipe has been one of tastier vegetables on the table, so i want to share with you guys how to cook this yummy at tasty recipe. Hope you enjoy this.
    Ingredients:
    500 g Cabbage
    175 g pork belly
    prawn (optional)
    800 ml water/pork stock (exclude mushroom water)
    65 g shallots
    20-25 g garlic
    3-4 tbsp Soya bean paste
    4-8 pcs black fungus (pre-soak)
    4-8 pcs dried mushroom (pre-soak)
    2 carrots
    1 packet bean curd stick (pre-soak)
    40-60 g sweet rectangular dried bean curd (cut into 1"thickness and fry)
    30-50 g lily buds (pre-soak & knot)
    30-40 g tanghon/glass noodles (pre-soak)
    seasoning:
    fish sauce
    sugar (if don't have sweet dried bean curd)
    oil for frying
    onion oil for garnishing (optional)
