    - THINGS I FORGOT TO MENTION IN THIS VIDEO -
    - Other things I liked:
    - The fact that when you change weapons, it shows in the cutscenes and has materia slots I think it looks great
    - Barret's character and the way his bond with Cloud changes over the course of the game
    - Graphically, lots of the Shinra building looks gorgeous and several of the floors were beautifully reimagined
    - The way that the summons look, I found the models beautiful and impressive
    - The jukebox idea for the music was good
    - Other things I disliked:
    - Handjob scene was awkward and not good for Cloud’s character
    - Although the jukebox idea was good, the music you got wasn't that great mostly. Some was okay but not motivating to listen to
    - Aerith somehow knows that Sephiroth is the evilest person ever and needs to be stopped without any explanation of who he is
    - For new players, Sephiroth isn't explained at all yet is one of the Final bosses, which makes sense for fan service but not for new players
    - A few strange uneasy moments between Aerith and Marlene that are not properly explained
    - Not much character development and background given on the new characters they decided to introduce
    - Leslie seems like he could be a main character in a Final Fantasy game. I feel as though his character design and story was wasted in this
    - The Barret 'dying' bait and switch was kind of pointless
    - No Blood, which was probably to do with rating so that's understandable
    - Zack's voice actor.........
    - The monkey bar segments felt out of place and it looked strange seeing Cloud and Tifa doing them
    - Although the summons looked great, they had very little focus on screen so you couldn't see them that well for that long
    - Chadley again, feels as though he should be in a different Final Fantasy game. The same one as Leslie.
    - In terms of the graphical issues, perhaps they are planning a remastered version of the remake for PS5 which is a giant cash grab
    - Farming to level up felt kind of awkward at most parts of the game and the VR and Arena Battles felt like a cheap way to resolve that
    - RED XIII IS A GUEST CHARACTER

I was going to say Cloud does not get a handjob in the game till I realise he technically does.
Ya they seemed like they put no effort in explaining anything at the end. What do the wispers want? Aerith just shakes her head and everyone goes ok well will just drop that.
Some people have mention they go avatar him because he wants to remake time, but that is not a reason. If Barret actually died yes that is a better reason, but Sephiroth is never to be shown as anything more then he and Cloud have a past. For all we as the player know is that they had a hate date.
I would agree that much if the Jukebox music remixes are not very good and I think the music overall is underwhelming. You can find better remixes on CZcams.
Showing Zack to me just makes me fell like they arw just going to do anoth compilation of games. Either Zack will have some DLC to him or a Crisi Core 2 what if..? I really hope they do not do the whole time traveling/dimensional shift between Zack and Cloud save time travel and alternative universes for the Chrono series.
I do find it hilarious that people keep falling off of ledges. It is like they said people like it when Cloud falls from reactor 5 why not put him in others in instances were people can be saved from falling.
One thing I found interesting about the characters is the game does a good job of making me like all the characters more, especially Tifa. With the exception of Aerith which the Remake makes me actually like her less.

to be clear, there's definitely huge numbers of people who played the original in the 90s and loved the remake. Yes, a 100% accurate copy with updated graphics would have been cool in some ways, but equally would have been incredibly unsatisfying. Seeing all the detail of the environments in new modern detail, but with no actual ability to interact with it and explore it more deeply? Boring. Plus, it seems clear that the title 'remake' is a bit of a double meaning. It's a remake in the way people took it to mean in some ways, but also seems to be alluding to Sephiroth's plan in the game which timeline wise is clearly meant to be after advent children.

Truth is , they wasted two years of development time due to them outsourcing it instead of it being developed in house and it ended up being scrapped and moved in house like it should have been from the get go.
They wanted to pull a Resident Evil 2 Remake but underestimated how much work ,time and resources it would require. The reason they reused assets is because it's all they had time for.
Square lied. They lied to long time fans who wanted a faithful adaptation of the original.

      @URFTBOUND4LIFE Před 4 lety +42

@@RandamuSho Also I wanted to say I agree about the Arbiters of Fate being a huge mistake but for different reasons.
Even looking past the meta-comentary ,it goes against the theme of FF7.
The OG Final Fantasy games had themes with its narrative that drew players in.
      FF 4s theme was redemption.
FF 10's theme was religion and politics, family and sacrifice.
FF7s story was about life, death and overcoming grief by putting the past behind yourself.
All of the main characters lost someone or something prescious to them and went through grief in their own way.
Sakaguchi wrote the original story as a way of coping with the death of his mother during the early stages of the original game.
That theme's message is now muddled with the typical "fate" and "destiny" bs plotlines that's been regurgitated far too many times in videogames/anime to the point of nauseum.
To remove that aspect of it is not only insulting to the fans but also insulting Sakaguchi's original vision of the game.
To allow certain characters to live, kill certain characters off only to immediately have them brought back to life cheapens the whole damn point.
Death had a real impact in the original. When a character died, that was it.
It felt real. Now , to even question if Jessie's alive after seeing Biggs and Wedge and Zack survives makes me glad I skipped the remake. I won't bother playing it unless it's heavily discounted or I get it second hand.
One final note; Never apologize for criticizing someone's work. I'm sure game development isn't a easy job, but at the same token, people pay money for this.
You're not satisfied with what you've purchased, you have every bit of right to voice your opinion. And if they can't handle that, they're in the wrong industry because games are art and the hardest part of being an artist is the critics.

That's the thing with action-based battles, sometimes you just can't understand what the hell is going on. There is a mess of numbers on the screen and you just can't easily visually read what is happening. Whereas in turn-based battles, things happen one after the other and the camera ALWAYS shows you clearly the results of your actions and the enemy's actions. It was a beautiful masterpiece and I was absolutely in love with the powerful themes of accepting and learning to live with loss and grief and I must have spent 300 hrs at least uncovering every secret and exploring every inch of the world. I wasn’t disappointed and the PS1 is my favorite system to this day. This game carries deep rooted feelings for millions of people who grew up with the original 25 years ago. This remake gave me pause when I first watched gameplay footage and I had a sinking feeling that it wouldn’t do the original justice, so I never played it. It seems I made the right choice but it’s sad that this is how such a beloved, iconic and generation-defining experience has been cheapened and degraded for “modern audiences”. One point I feel I need to make and correct people on is the original wasn't turn based, it was an active time battle system. Things didn't always stop in combat and you could be attacked whilst choosing options. Ffx was turn based and even that could be manipulated by using haste or slow or just switching characters. Also, sorry, but I couldn't make it to the end of your video, you possibly had covid here and the constant coughing and smacking of your lips was to triggering for me and had to switch off, but from what I watched I could see you were as disheartened as I was at this remake. With the majority of remakes of film and games we're "experiencing" for many years now it's the ownership of the IP trying to use a safety formula for profit.
Movies and games have become so expensive that new franchises and concepts are risky business, and they use these beloved IP's as a way to minimize their exposure with the guarantee of the fanbase. Also, the existing fanbase alone in-fact sort of sells it to a new larger fanbase.

I feel though that this game is not for us (fans who played the original at release), it's more for younger gamers who want to experience FF7 but can't possibly bear to suffer the original game.
I knew as soon as I heard about this game that it would end up like this. I'm just glad this isn't FF8 which is my favourite of the series.
Personally I would have been happy with the game exactly the same as the original with upgraded graphics.
Splitting the game up was always going to be problematic. You have to give the story a satisfying end at a point where there was none. I'm presuming also that your items/stats, things you've built up on this game are going to be gone on the next one.
I can't say strongly enough how much I want turn based combat back in Final Fantasy games. For me that was part of it's core identity. I agree that it is a great loss for people to be able to play as every character except for Red XIII. As much as it is great to always try and make things unique, I'm not sure how good and fair it is to change the childhoods and realities of people who owe a lot of who they are now to experiencing this game, and how impactful the original story was to them. Nomura was not in charge of OG 7. He was only a character designer (visually! Not their story). Hence, even Sephiroth is NOT Nomuras creation. Sure, the hair, the sword n stuff is Nomuras. But his story, his personality (you know, the stuff you really fell in love with!) as the rest of OG 7 and all good iterations of FF (1-10) is all the work of mainly Sakaguchi. Together with music producer Uematsu, Sakaguchi was and still is Final Fantasy. Ever since these two left Square, the games are just not the same anymore and follow a completely different approach that tries to be much more mainstream than be their own thing. They are working in a studio called Mistwalker now and produce games that even upon first glance immediately bring back the old final fantasy feeling. I recommend everyone to play their last game which is called The Fantasian and is brillant. Other games that are "more FF" than what Square Enix produces are the Tales Saga or the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona games.

    @dantespimp Před rokem +4

Lifeless... that's what I felt playing this game. And yea, I wanted this game to be amazing; I played it several times and even got my Platnium trophy. The combat system was solid, the action was intense, and the characters felt like the ones I grew up with. But the overall product felt stale and generic: it was all style over substance. This becomes very apparent after playing much better RPG action games like Nier: Automata or Persona 5 or Yakuza. With Nier Automata, the sidequests give you further insight into this desolate world and the characters within it - you get a really good sense of how dreadful and hopeless things are after hearing various perspectives and seeing the impact of your actions. With Persona 5, the entire map is small BUT VERY ALIVE - you get to visit multiple areas, and find a shit-ton things to do. It's the same for Yakuza's map. All of this, however, is a sharp contrast to what FF7 Remake gives us. I honestly felt FF7 Remake was on the same level as Crisis Core (very linear driven). But whereas Crisis Core had the excuse of being limited due to its original PSP platform (hence, its repetitive missions, limited NPC interactions, and lack of locations), the Remake doesn't have that excuse.
When the FF7 Remake dev folks told us they'd be making the first game based solely on Midgar section, I was honestly excited. I thought it was smart of them not to try and squeeze the entire FF7 OG in one-go. I was also thinking they'd pack that small map with a bunch of awesome shit, like what Persona 5 and Yakuza did. I stupidly thought, 'Wow, I bet they'll have fun shops and activities for Cloud to do in Midgar City! Maybe he can visit Hobgoblins Tavern in Loveless Street to stock up in Muscle Drinks! Or shop at a trendy clothing store to pick up accessories! Or visit a gym to increase his stats! Or, hey, Cloud going into a karaoke bar and winning special materia would be fun! And they'll be all these cool NPCs to interact with, each sharing their personal experiences as residents of Midgar City (thereby, giving us another perspective of Shinra).' Hearing your awesome idea of us being able to travel throughout all 9 sectors by jumping/traveling on a train would've been even MORE amazing. There were also bus stops too - wouldn't it have been awesome if Cloud could TRAVEL to other parts in the map using the bus too???
But did we get any of this? Nope. Even when Cloud eventually 'travels' with the use of Chocobos - the dev team couldn't be bothered with doing more than showing a lame, boring load screen. Crikes, had it been the Persona 5 team, we would've seen Cloud sitting alongside his current team members in the carriage while the game loaded up the next area.
And it's not like what I expected to see in Midgar would've been impossible to do within the timespan and budget they were given. Again, both Persona 5 and Yakuza actually have small maps. But because those maps are tightly compacted with places and NPCs, their worlds feel bigger than they really are. Had the dev team known exactly what they wanted to do from the start, they would've allocated all their time in building up the world of Midgar - not wasting it on filler-bullshit like the train yard section (I kid you not: you could be remove this entire section from the game and NOTHING would change for the characters or story). Instead, the change in dev teams midway into making the Remake resulted in only one part of the game feeling fleshed out (Wall Market) and others feeling rushed or given the bare bone minimum effort (which is very transparent during the underground lab sections). Even with the Wall Market section, it's STILL a very limited experience (especially when compared to the OG FF7). Like, I'm betting if you were to hand over the Wall Market section to the dev team that did Persona 5, we could soak in a bathhouse, eat Wutai noodles at the diner, play pool at a bar, etc.
I could go on and on about the potential FF7 Remake had, but in the end, it doesn't change things. This is what we ended up with. In time, I might've forgiven its deviation from the source material and regarded the Remake as its own unique thing. But... it's just not a fun game to play, especially on repeats. Nothing, except for the characters and my nostalgia for FF7 (and Sephiroth's hawtness), incentivizes me to play this game above the other ones I mentioned here. The fact they butchered my boi, Sephiroth, (making him appear every 5 seconds) and destroyed the core themes of OG (accepting and learning how to move on from a heavy loss) by revitalizing dead characters only adds salt to my wound. Even if those originally fated characters end up dying, the themes of OF FF7 are still ruined because Death is now being treated as some 'surprise, gotcha!' mechanic than a narrative lesson on life/death.
As fans, we need to stop being content with mediocrity. This is why SquareEnix feels no need to come up with a solid game plan for the rest of FF7 Remake - they are literally playing things by the ear (the Star Wars sequel trilogy and Game of Thrones' final seasons had this same mentality too - and we all know the shit-storm that came of it). SquareEnix will continue watering down FF7 so long as fans keep validating these bad creative decisions and demonizing those (often by slapping the labels 'anti' and 'hater') that dare to question things.

Wow! that is a long but exceptional comment! I read through every word and don't disagree with a single thing. Especially how you ended it. Medicroity is sadly being championed in todays world and diminishing and honestly? devolving returns is becoming actively more present in MOST industries. I just before reading this saw a comparison shot of OG Tidus from FF10's character models facial expressions on PS2 literally being better than their remake of if just as an example lol. But yeah. My last hope is that game dev itself gets easier, broader, and more impressive for indies within the next 10 years. Perhaps some exceptional and talented fans can quietly construct the dream FF7 we've all imagined away from SQUARE-ENIX's corporate drivel & soulless money printing / butchering of beloved and impactful titles. The thing which is the worst about it is robbing younger and new people of all that the OG was and they.... Like it D: It's very frustrating because I'd never want go actively convince people to not be happy with a thing that they've enjoyed but it's at the expense of them not getting to see THE TRUE magic which made this fan fic of a game possible... lol. @@RandamuSho Sorry for the long-winded comment lol, but I felt very grateful to you for making this video. If you're wondering why this comment popped out two years later on your feed, well, you can thank CZcams for that. 😑I vividly remember completing Remake a few days after it was out and feeling disheartened enough to search out videos like this on youtube, just to see if anyone else had the same reaction I did. But not once did I get recommended these critical analysis videos (until this year). All I got from my search results were videos of everyone and their grandmothers and dogs singing high praises of the Remake, with some declaring it 'even better' than the original. Meanwhile, I felt more and more like Annie Wilkes from the movie 'Misery', standing in the middle of the room and screaming, "He didn't get out of the COCKADOODIE CAR!!!!" 🤣
Like, it's really frustrating seeing something you grew up with get watered down and ruined by sloppy writing/execution, yet you're pressured to applaud and praise it anyway by a community that quickly reprimands, blocks, and labels anyone critical of the Remake as an 'anti' or 'hater'. If you're still wondering how we got to this point of mediocrity in our games/films/stories, then you can thank this zero-tolerance, positive-only culture we live in today - where ANY critical thoughts or questions are automatically deemed 'problematic' and therefore, downvoted or swiftly tossed into the 'hater speech' bin. As a result, there's no incentive for games like FF7 to get better or fix any underlying issues. Why would the Captains steering this ship bother taking another route when they got an entire fanbase praising them for their 'brave efforts' while also demonizing those who are trying to point out that they're headed for an iceberg?
All of FF7 Remake's current problems can be traced back to the FF7 Compilation. Everything from the very linear gameplay, the lackluster 'world', the repetitive side missions, style over substance, and cringey plot devices. I'm old enough to remember Nomura and his gang of misfits nearly destroying FF7 with their constant retconning and their roster of ho-hum lackluster Hot Topic characters (this is what happens when Nomura is left alone to his own devices, without any copilots looking over his shoulder). I find it both funny and depressing that Nomura gets to re-introduce this Compilation mess on us again, except to a new generation of FF7 fans who don't know any better (and likely WILL embrace Mr. Edgelord's content because 'he at least tried').
I want to thank you SO MUCH for mentioning your thoughts on Sephiroth. He's my best boi. And yet, even I felt the Remake did him a giant disservice by making him into a laughing joke - everything from his derpy kitty eyes (Derpyroth) to him appearing every 5 seconds to troll Cloud,. It all undermines him as a character (and to think, THIS is how new fans are being introduced to him). In the OG FF7, Cloud had to recruit an ENTIRE roster of allies to help him take down Sephiroth. Even more, EACH of those allies had to undergo their own personal journey of growth and challenge in order to reach their max potential. This meant that everyone had to be at their peak form - both mentally AND physically. All of this preparation work perfectly conveyed how Godlike and powerful Sephiroth was. You know shit got real when we, the gamer, had to assign THREE TEAMS up against him. In the Remake though? Cloud only needs A THIRD his roster (Aerith, Nanaki, Tifa, and Barret). And NONE of them had to overcome their personal challenges to reach their full strength to take on Sephiroth.
I was also VERY disappointed in George Newbern getting axed for the Remake! Whereas the new cast does a fine job (I personally enjoy Aerith's new VA), they should've kept Newbern. Newbern performs all these subtle tones and pitches to give more life to Sephiroth (like how he delivers the line: 'Is that the best you can DO?" in Crisis Core's fight scene. This, in contrast to Hoechlin, who simply delivers it as 'is this the best you can do?" - all flat and mechanical). it's depressing hearing Hoechlin try to SOUND like Newbern's Sephiroth too, making it more obvious that they should've just kept Newbern. But this is SquareEnix we're talking about. And those of us who were fans of the OG cast know damn well how Squeenix did them all dirty. I specifically remember both Burton AND Newbern saying they were recording lines for FF7. Then the hiatus happened. Then, suddenly, we get an announcement that ALL the OG cast can unceremoniously scrapped (while ALL the Japanese VA cast stayed).
All right. I'm ending this all in one final note: to me, the most offending thing about Remake was the heavy implication that the original game's ending was 'the bad ending'. In the last Chapters, Aerith keeps talking about defying Fate and 'making it better'. Then, when everyone sees a vision of Nanaki and his cubs running across a desolate Midgar City overtaken by plant life, it's taken as this terrible apocalyptic vision ("this is what happens should we fail..."). Fail? Fail at what? Saving the damn world??? I just wanted to punch Aerith and Nanaki here. In changing the course of events in FF7, what these two dumb-dumbs REALLY mean to say is: 'I want to have my cake and eat to!' Both Aerith and Nanaki want to save the world without making ANY sacrifices. This stands against OG FF7, which was all about loss and death fueling new life. The destruction of Midgar City gave 'new life'. The destruction of Aerith gave 'new chance'.
In the OG FF7, Bugenhagen mentions the Planet is suffering. However, it also isn't actively taking a side - it's very aware that it's fated to die so it's just being a passive player in all this. When Holy is activated, there is NO guarantee the Planet will answer Aerith's prayer and save them all from Meteor. This makes Aerith's sacrifice, the fight against Sephiroth, and Cloud/party's actions more powerful and meaningful. Through Aerith's sacrifice, the hardships the party goes through, and Cloud's determination to stop Sephiroth (a true test of Wills), the Planet finds them worthy of saving. This is why Aerith's whole 'lets challenge Fate' bullshit doesn't sit right with me. She's attempting to bypass all the sacrifices and hardships to cheat her way into the 'good ending'. But the 'good ending' was THE ending! The whole point of FF7 was about learning how to move forward from a loss. You can't grow and move forward if you've never suffered a loss! What Aerith wants is what a lotta entitled brats expect and want out of life: reward without hard work or sacrifice.

Why don't we alter our history if people enjoy change? I mean if changing something that is Original is not that big of a deal why not do it with history? History is a story as well. Why not remove the US Constitution, Why not remove the Japanese samurai History, Why not remove many of these thing? They are story's in the end. I am pretty sure there are people in the world today that would not mind removing those things in history, and many parts of those story's, but I am sure many more people won't want those story's changed in anyway.
This Main reason we don't change our history story is because you would destroy what made all of us today. I will never play Final Fantasy remake because it changed my history, it did not recreate it. If Final Fantasy 7 remake only updated the graphics, and kept everything the same from the Original, but it cost $150 instead of $70, I would be happy to pay $150. Why? Because you can't put a price on what made Final Fantasy 7 1997 so good. I can put a price on something that is not Original. FF7 to me is Priceless. Me and 5 other friends of mine have talked about this for years, and we all agree, If Final Fantasy 7 was recreated with only updated Graphics, and everything was Original we would pay $500 for the game. No video game has ever cost that much, but we are talking about recreating, and not remaking into something else. You can't put a price on something people love.

    This video was really good.
I just finished playing FF7 Classic and went straight into the remake really pumped to see all of those moments beign fully realized on modern graphics....
Aaaand it was a disapointment. You see alot of people use the ''Oh its just Nostalgia'' argument. But i literally finished playing the classic game Couple days ago... its weird to me how i HATE this remake.
Sephiroth showing all the time..... HELL he even shows up BEFORE U ESCAPE IN THE TRAIN for god sake. Completly broke the mystery of the character at that point. And this is coming from someone who just finished FF7 Classic a couple days ago.
I cant explain how much i was hooked in the original game, and i also always HATED FF Games all my life... i never had any interest in ever playing them. FF7 Classic was the first i could finish because the plot was so damn good, and it made me go insane and want to finish the game and know whats this Sephiroth is all about.
After all this, ive been watching review after review to see if someone has the same views as i do. I hated all that bullshit they throwed in the game.. like REALLY hated.
So no... Nostalgia is not the point, the point is the game was already good, the plot had an amazing pace. Saying they are ''adding to the game, giving it more depth'' is complet BULLSHIT dude. They are not adding anything, they are messing things up.
It is just so clear to me, after playing the original game ( And THANK GOD i did played it before playing this MESS ), they are just compressing the story, imo Nomura would be long gone if they would ever make a TRUE FF7 Remake, it would just take so much time.... that game is MASSIVE, so many diferent citys, the open World sections. Imagine how big it would be the weight of the game.
Im not agaisnt they making and episodic game, in fact i really support that because if u think about it, Video games these days are so big, and it takes a lot of space to develop a game that wants to look really good like that. ( And just adding to this, the game looks good, its super heavy in weight, and still... it has AWFUL textures placed everywhere because if they would place super High def everywhere this game would be SO FUCKING heavy, trust me it would ) So it would just take so much time... and Square Enix is compressing the story to get over it fast and grab all that sweet money.
This is really big already and i still have so much more to discuss about this..... like much more seriously. Its just sad that FF7 Remake will NEVER happen, for real... it wont. We will never see a true Remake of this game. Because after all that bullshit, i doubt they will adress this MESS at all.
And btw, all those ppl saying they played the Original and still LOVED how they did things on the remake is HIGHLY suspicious.... I doubt these ppl even remember how the plot of the game actually was and the pacing of it. So i would highly doubt those ppl who says '' I played the original and this remake is PERFECT I LOVED IT. ''

Nice comment! I agree with a lot of what you said there and you're right you are proof against the nostalgia argument. you know what I think it is? People have got use to in this time accepting sub par quality & I think its people just gawking over the pretty character models and flashy battles. there's a lot to be desired, left out and altered in the remake. I still think of it as a okay as a spin off but it isn't the remake it could have been and as you said that is unlikely to happen

    • @eruda709
      @eruda709 Před 4 lety +1

@@RandamuSho U know i hate to say this cause it sounds really rude but you are right... all i see is ppl jerking off to those beatifully recreated characters. ( I totally agree, Tifa looks amazing, aswell as Aerith, Scarlet and Jessy.. ) But thats not the point of the game... The story is. Its like cant you jerk off to the character in a plot that is good and makes sense just like the original ?
You are right if it was just a spin off it would be just fine, i wouldnt even care at all. But the name FF7 and REMAKE is beign used. And thats it... this is the remake of FF7. Theres no going back now they did it.
Like i said theres just so many other things that are stupid and absurd in this remake. I could go on with this discussion for hours and hours... But its done already, theres no going back now. Thats our ''remake'' right there. ( Not my remake for sure ) But thats it.
I also hate the fact some ppl think new players wouldnt enjoy the original story, like the original game wasnt so remarkable and critically aclaimed for exactly the fucking story. This ppl are so blinded and cant acept the remake they waited all this years is complet nonsensical garbage.

Yeah, it's not even nostalgia for me either, I played FF7 for the first time in 2016 and I was really disappointed with remake. I'm no longer excited for any Square game atm other than FF16 because it's being made by competent developers aka Naoki Yoshida and his team.

in the original game, the cross dressing scene had a hidden purpose, the less into the cross dressing scene you are the higher chance Corneo picks Tifa, if you did some of the side quest things then corneo will pick Aerith, but if you do all the side-quest to dress the best as you can as a woman, Aerith will mock you and this will add more points for the hidden part of this, which is a date with Barret in the golden saucer. i know there other elements involved, and dialogs or actions who need to do in order for the appreciation meter of the 3 main characters rise towards Cloud, Barret, Tifa and Aerith, but if Corneo picks cloud he gets lots of points toward that date With Barret as Clouds tell Corneo something like his loyalty belongs to another man, and that man has a gun for an arm and is the leader of Avalanche, and his name is Barret. xD not even talking about the date with Barret, it's just hilarious! a literal bromance xDD

Nomura: And I took that personally.

When it comes to Sephiroth he shouldn't have even been in this game.
You're not supposed to see him until the retelling of the story at Kalm. He's barely mentioned before that.
I knew NOTHING about the changes, and just seeing Sephiroth in those scenes following him told me right away that this was not Final Fantasy VII anymore. Plus the Whispers..the Whispers & Sephiroth were so upsetting.
The changes like Biggs Wedge surviving. Rude instead of Reno. It starts to feel like they're changing the game to incite outrage on purpose.

    Problem is:
This is supposed to be an FF7 remake. I played it because the original is supposedly a BEAST of a game.
Was quite hyped, played and was done in 2 days. Like, this game people pumped hundreds upon hundreds of hours into I finished in 2 days with no real reason to replay it.
Then I searched and found out it’s supposedly the first third of the game? And even for that it felt so incredibly short.
This isn’t a PSP Title like crisis core. This is a full fledged PCTitle for full price and I get…this..?
Do they know graphics aren’t everything? Look at GTA 5. That game cost 60€, had top notch graphics for the time it was released AND had tons of content + and OPEN WORLD.
And this is square enix’s attenmpt at the remaster of the most well known final fantasy game of all time?
Disappointing. That’s all that really is. Still no Ruby or Sapphire Weapon in the new game either. What’s the point of this on-rail adventure…?

I enjoyed the tone and understanding of both side in this video, and made me want to express some of my thoughts of what I played.
I played this game, quiting twice, and got only halfway through the story. It felt like a chore.
I played it at first as a fan of the original, that went as well as you could expect. I then played it as if it was an action game, but it tries to be serious too much and there are 2-5 gameplay interrupting moments before each battle. Imagine games like Neir doing that to you while exploring. Lastly, I played it as a game to make fun of while drinking beer, but it was still boring. Sure the combat is the best thing about this game, but it doesn't make it good. I got a nostalgic feeling from the combat somehow, the helpful pauses we're well implemented. I could choose each character ability or spell with relative ease. However, the movement, lock on, and camera during the action felt weak. I need more breathing room, smoother angles, and a dodge that understandable and consistent (if you even need to add it). For combat, I have issue with this game specifically because it is a AAA title in a massive running series, there has been alot of worse action rpg combat systems. but I want to be able to understand the battlefield and not have shiny effects all over my screen trying to wow me with how cool it is. At least I want the option as a player who doesn't like this, to change or tone it down.
There have been other games that I felt less in control, but this one taking the name of ff7 made this so much worse. In that game, I enjoyed exploring the small sections of Midgard, trying to figure out what to do next. I wasn't told what to do when exploring. If there was a larger map in the remake, the compass would probably have been nessisary, but not in areas that feel just as small as the original.
Everyone else has already stated my exact thoughts about the story, the characters are something I personally enjoyed in this game, expecially Areith. I didn't like Jessie though. I also like the idea of a brighter slums area, because the sun was able to get to them at sections and more effective sun plates. But they didn't really expand on this too much, and the all the characters having literally bright faces, makes this feel like a cheap Netflix show. The original was unable to show the condition of people who were suffering though their faces, this remake could have. This detail didn't even have to change the new story, but everyone's gotta be looking perfectly flawless in our games now. Sure, the main character need to be on display, but why do the npc look this way too. You're not convincing me that these people are in a dystopian world.
It had it's good moments for me, but a far cry from what the original's five hours did for me. (Which completed only a year or so ago) It doesn't have to be the same game, but it needed some sort of clear direction. I understand if you liked the remake, it has some fun action and beautifuly shot scenes; but for many people this was a complete disgrace; it should have been a different entery entirely with a similar world as the original. ff7 should be left in it's own time, with both it's flaws and great moments; playing it today like you're opening a time capsule. Of course the original is not for everyone as well.

Wall Market was a big lipped alligator moment. You hit it, you did it as fast as possible, then you moved on as fast as possible and never talked about it again. In the Remake they drag it on and on and on and on...to the point that the moment just becomes stale and annoying. Also no, screw that stupid rhythm game. Optional side content sure, fine. Have it be one of THOSE rooms in the Honey Bee Inn. Making it this big production though? That was annoying as all get out.

  • @louisvictor3473

I say it every time I get a chance. The "remake" is a triple disappointment. First, it fails as a remake or even a reimagining by even the thinnest but still honest definition, by virtue of being something else entirely just dressed as FF7. Which pretty much means, we can kiss goodbye to any official remake using better technologies than the original, which is our second disappointment. Lastly, it is also a disappointing brand new game, because even if one likes it as its own game, it still pales in comparison to game it could have been if they fully committed to making annew game that just intertextually references FF7 story and characters.
The only pure "win" here is for fans of graphics and superficial all style no substance anime battles and tropes. Then I guess there are no downsides.

I agree with everything you said.
I can tell how much you tried your best to like it, but were greatly disappointed.
I, like you, was really looking forward to the game. I was so excited, I wanted to explore every inch of the world, build my channel around it, I thought this would be my game for a long, long time.
But like many others, it really broke my heart in a way, and due to this I learned to tempter my expectations with upcoming releases of games especially Square Enix games. Does anyone else feel like they barely understand their own games anymore?
I tried so very hard to love this game. I even second guessed myself a few times, thinking “no wait, maybe this is good, maybe later it’ll all make sense.” But really. No. The original was a complete package, it didn’t need anything else added. This could have been one of the greatest releases ever especially with the hype, but sadly, it just didn’t do it for a lot of fans.
It’s ok, it’s passable, there are good things they did well, but the biggest issue is the story.
Kudos to you. Every once in a while I like to listen to long talks from fellow fans and their disappointment with 7 remake. I even have a few videos with my thoughts on the matter. I tried to follow little news reels and snippets of what we might get next, but as time went on, I just realized I didn’t love it. I’ll be here, I’ll be wishing this series well and I’ll check it out, but it’s not the same anymore.

thats quite the heart felt message man. Thanks for sharing. Yeah this comment section has really been an outpour of opinion with so much thought and effort gone in to people expressing how they felt about remake by comparison to OG 7. It really shows the impact that game had on a bunch of our lives and if theres anything positive to take from the disappointment it is that we are not alone in feeling that way and not liking something doesnt have to always be toxic like how some of the internet can make that appear. It's not 'hating' far from. It's love. A lot of us love OG 7 and all that it was and this wasn't anything like what I think a larger section of the audience than originally was let on, wanted. I will check out the following games to see what comes together but much like how the original trilogy of star wars fans must have felt, I don't think I'll ever be able to ease in my seat and trust devs and companies with my wishes for games just how you said dude.
Again thanks for the comment ❤

summed it all up so well
they wasted it, and worse its not even complete, coughing up $60+ for 3 or more games for a worse story that cheaply uses them for brand notoreity is disgusting honestly
and they'll never be able to make a true remake of it now cause its too soon to now, what a waste of time while people shill for it cause new big AAA game with pretty visuals and low expectations/standards
