Im the main cannon
im the flex i do anything i feel is needed most at the time
"What role are you?"
Solo sloopers: Yes.
Just yes 😢
And then, during the rare times I actually do have a crew, I'm so used to doing everything that I end up doing way more than I need to.
Unfortunately for some like me I’m stuck in constant ship repair
That’s me when I’m not on a galley
@@Srt_resiumhonestly the best advice i can give you is that when your in a sloop don’t worry about buckets until the ship starts groaning, the sloop is the easiest and fastest ship to bail out so you should be fine. another piece of advice is to use chain shots and get into hour glass pvp to improve cannon shots
You forgot the Bard, does nothing but play music and fish on the bow before leaving after any sort of combat starts.
lol
Can’t forget when they whine about being forced to raise sails or smth before the song finishes
Yeah, the 5th crewman that doesn't even belong to the crew, suddenly appears out of nowhere playing an instrument, follows you around for a bit, and then disappears just as suddenly as they appeared.
The boarding Bard 😂
Bro what thats litterally me with my friends when im not solo slooping 😅
I want to see an entire galleon full of solo sloop mains get together with no mic communication and watch the chaos ensue!
I feel like they'd do just fine tbh
@@mitchellchannel5265you end up stepping on each other's toes and getting very little done

Bilge, I'm forever in the dungeon, haven't seen daylight in years
I’m sorry bro
I feel this pain
feel this, never get any cannon or helms practice on bigger ships
Same here when i want to go up already in the sec-2 floor of galleon going up to the top and I hear "BOOOMMM!!!!" And my helsman or my captain said "GET BACK DOWN THERE, THE SHIP HITTED BY CANNON!!!!" and than i never see daylight or my enemy ship 😅😅😅
I like it below deck. 😅
I usually play on sloops so I do cannons bailing and steering. My friend does the “Dying and falling off the ship” role
I mainly play on sloop with a buddy and my job is repairs buckets steers while my buddy uses cannons and fights
i have never heard any of these names for the roles before. my crew uses captian, repairs, lookout and "do fucking something you cant not help rn"
ahahaha, I like that last one
Here it is "go steer the ship cuz there is a rock" "show me where is the fucking rock" "fix that god dammit" and "oh fireworks"

Lmao
I have to do it all while my entire team just tries to board the enemy

OMG I THOUGHT THAT WAS ONLY ME
I will play nanny till combat than I do not try to board the enemy ship that implies failure I will within a minute be driving the enemy ship while it burns and then leave with anything I can get my hands on
On a galleon, I have a helmsman, a canoneer, and two bilges. This is the standard layout in a fight. The canoneer has the biggest priority
As a flex, it's probably the hardest job, you have to know how everyone is doing, check the wind and sails every moment, help with canons when everything is alright, and if you feel that everything is ok launch yourself to the other ship
Playing solo sloop
“With all 6 stones, I could simply snap my fingers”
👍
"What role are you ?"
Solo slooper :"turns out..... *I'm all of them* "
In simpler terms:
Helm: only crew member who knows how to sail
Bilge: new player
Mc and flex: everyone else
“what role are you?”
dawg everyone on my squad is a flex and its pure chaos
Co-ordination is key. So far in my 100-ish hours of SoT I've been playing the helm when pairing up with frineds.
Someone’s gotta do it, especially when you have to teach your friends how to play 😂
Dang, i could use a Helm.
I love being the helm for my crew, the only downside is that I rarely get to spend time enjoying the views from the crows nest
The most noble role in sot and the one that wins fights
I have a friend that likes being a helmsman and I love that they are willing to do it
As a solo sloop I am in constant pain

Cannons, I've always been good with weapons with similar ballistics in games. Bows, grenade launchers, etc.
And I'm usually the first to remember that the best way to stop your ship from taking damage is to force the enemy ship to stop shooting.
I am straight up Helmsman with a slick side of canonneering. I can sail a boat and iron an enemy. My OCD when driving is off the charts and my Archery skills comes in to play with targeting.
I however will help bucket if nesscary. I end up being the Captain nearly 100% of the time. I'm teaching a friend how to properly steer a ship, at best yet adorkably cute, they end up creating a wavy line. XD They let me take over if they need me to get the crew to the destination faster.

@@olivery554 it’s so annoying they both board at the same time when the other ship has 0 holes
And then I get the blame cuz I can’t steer repair bucket and raise the mast while their on the ferry
As a helmsman I am constantly being made to solo cause my crew keeps trying, and failing, to board the enemy ship.
Litterally me (I'm a helm)
The ship is the ammunition boys. RAMMING SPEED!!!
Spoken like a true 40k ork
Yes...our favourite strategy is either ramming the enemy ship and setting the enemy on fire and ignite gunpowder kegs on the enemy ship, or chase the enemy into an island, make the battle stationary, and outrepair the enemy
Ram strat best strat
Nothing more fun than killing some sweaty reapers with stupid methods like ramming
I'm still fairly new to the game but I'm starting to feel that being up on the crownest with a sniper is pretty effective, usually nobody looks up for the 4th guy if you already see three, so you can line them up pretty easily (ammo crates and grenades help a lot) or drop on to their ship with a bomb or else in like 2 seconds.
My group expands on the roles. We have a quartermaster that repairs, buckets, and sorts all the resources out of combat. Our lookout keeps an eye out in the crows nest and supports others when needed. Helmsman steers the ship and snipes when possible. And the Captain shoots the cannons and boards when we are close to the enemy ship. Me, the captain of our crew, loves to board the enemy and face their own captain one on one.
"What role are you?"
Me: all of the above
As the solo galleon player I have to be all of them😥
@@Grimreaper-cx2xoI’m sorry… solo GALLEON??? What kind of inconvenience kink do you have lmfaooo /j
When I was first playing with others I was the bilge and when I became more experienced I was able to be the helmsman.
My best game as a helmsman was when I was on a brig and took down 11 enemy ships and best game as a bulge was on a gallon with two cannoners and we took down three flame hearts. We stacked.
I just realized this but I'm the flex roll, I'm able to boat the ship when we need shots to getting out of combat, there's also my cannon skills which I'm honestly impressed with, and I help bucket the ship and help with everything on the ship
I’ve spent like a year on main cannons and my aim has gotten so good it’s all I do and no one can get me off the cannons. I also like using harpoons during naval combat to avoid rams or to keep a close tail on the enemy
Typically flex’s also will board other ships. This is extremely important, as a good board is what can, by itself, decide a battle.
Very true! The point of view in these is definitely more from the point of view of a sloop helm main, so the roles can get a little twisted here and there, especially as I am the "stay-on-the-ship" type of player rather than the boarder. If you can miss your flex for the time being, you might as well send them for that extra bit of pressure. Good looking out, thank you!
Most crews have flex as their main boarder but some have Mc as the primary boarder, it just depends on the players
True also on a sloop normally the helm is the flex/bilge aswell
Brig helm is helm
Bilge is - repairing and responsible to call for the flex and if need be call for a reset
Flex - helps bilge or boards when possible
Main cannon- shoot’s thats it 😂
Galleon
Bilge and flex are good friends
Helm and main cannons are good friends
Depending on the crew im with depends on the roles being done
But normally im flex on a galleon however the main cannon (if better at boarding than me) will board while i cover fire if no adjustments are needed then helm joins me with pressure if board is successful we usually will have 3 on cannons where we can while the boarder locks down the opponents ship once the border is dead if i was not the original boarder i would board now depending on the situation of our ship
In all its all about trust and communication
I lucked out during the ps5 beta. The first crew member i got was a fresh noob like myself and we got slaughtered doing the skull quest. Second crew member i got was an absolute pro that didnt miss canon shots. We took out an incoming galleon. We yelled out orders to me and i followed the best i could steering the ship for him to pop off shots. He hit the 2 mast shots then bombarded their port side and i rammed them while he boarded. 2 of their crew were taken out with cannon shots and he jumped off our sloop onto their boot and anchored them and killed the remaining crew members while we sank them. This all happened just a couple hundred metres off the shore of the island we had to return the skull. While my crew mate collected all the loot i ran the skull back for our 50k gold and we made another 90k in stolen loot because those guys were loaded. I stuck with that guy for about four hours and tried to learn as much as i can. Really enjoyed the beta and looking forward to early launch!
Im everything, i just started playing and im literally playing tutorial while watching this video.
I’m the rare type that actually prefers and enjoys being a helmsmen
Me too I've always been the one that sails my friends around for about 3 years now so I've certainly had practice. But I am godly on cannons still
even less people enjoying being the bilge
I enjoy bilge and am garbage at helm I have no skill 😅
I like all but MC
Same
“What role are you?”
I’m the babysitter making sure my new to the game friends learn the ropes without getting bullied like I did by high level players 😅
I felt that. Getting sunk when almost through soloing a tall tale. No loot on board, just assholes on the server trying to flex. 😂
@@JayyJayy0601yep we had that but also had them being racist in chat/mic and also funny launching yeh they got perm banned
I’m helmsman but since my teammate is a main cannon I usually end up acting as a bilge as well so to summarise, my friend shoots as I repair, bail, steer, raise fallen masts and checks map.
At the same time.
Helm: keeps angle, watches boarders and fires cannon
Main cannon: cannon, grabs buckets if there is too much pressure and flex calls
Bilge: bilges and fires cannons when fully patched and dry
Flex: cannons, helps bilge and boards when bilge says it’s okay
This vid had some roles messed
As a solo obviously a flex, however I’d say the best way for roles on a duo sloop is the cannoneer and repairman occasionally and also sometimes helms when the other the main helmsman and main bilge and the other help the main bilge in dire situations and steers when needed so they can still fire and on a brig the 3 main roles are easily designated with helms possibly help repairing when needed
as a “bilge” my life is B U C K E T and W O O D
Bilge gang
Reminds me if that facebook group where everyone pretends to be ants. L I F T and B I T E!
Blige is the incorrect term. My friends refer to me as Damage Control. As long as the enemies die and i dont die my ship will not sink. Damage control wins battles.
My whole crew is a flex as we do whatever we want or need. The problem is when 3 people out of 4 decide to board the enemy ship and I’m left alone
Cannon crew priority is mast, wheel, then hull and occasional peppercorn to clear deck, bonus points for firebomb. Chances are after killing 1-2 crew last one panics and board ends the deal. This applies for sloops and brigs. Galleon is different beast since 4 men crew is hard to deal with considering firepower advantage. Best way to deal with it is resource bleedout cia hit and run or sneaky keg nuke. Best placement is middle mast middle deck.
In all of them...I never have anyone to play with so-
Me neither so we play together?
The ony thing I do is music, I do music to cheer up every one in the ship and make them work hard.
Ah my character was nicknamed granny I cooked and cleaned for the crew than burned down enemy ships from the inside out
Our captain loved to js jump off the boat, no communication whatsoever then we crash into a rock bc we realize the person driving abandoned us js to get stuck in the water waiting on a mermaid
This is good for newer crews but once you get experienced and better youll start to just know when the right time to do a certain task is
what about the trusty fisherman!
Our ability and willingness to stock a crew with cooked food will never be fully unwanted.
For sloops, main cannon functions as the main PvPer, and helm functions as helm as well as bilge.
I have a unique role of ship mother, basically flex but you do all the work and cook the food to keep the kids(crew) alive
I'm a flex, usually on lookout and being a shanty bard but I'll do my best to take care of any repairs or combat. Sometimes my buddy who is usually our helmsman (Captain) can be busy helping out the island digging or scrounging around so I he trusts me to take charge of the helm to move it or travel for him if he's tired or busy being at the helm on our Galleon of misfits 😂
"What Role Are You?"
Solo Sloopers:"Yes"
Man i wish i had this game but it is expensive and looks like it need a good pc
You could get it on XBOX as well, or get it through Game Pass, but that will cost you in the long run. The game does go on sale (no pun intended) quite often on Steam, so keep your eyes out!
@@MichaelisSL will do :)
I’m definitely a flex guy: not cracked at anything but has the skills to be decent at everthing
I usually take a sloop with a friend. He takes care of combat while i repair, steer, and dump water. Safe to say id gotten good at it
Just started the game a week ago with some other friends who have been playing for a long while. I've been forced to be a helmsman or a flex, depends on how many people we have on a sloop
We just put whoever is on the wheel in charge and they shout orders that the person closest to the objective has to fulfill. Who gets the wheel depends entirely on whoever grabs it first. This has surprisingly never once given us any trouble
I'm the helmsman for my crew. They need a reliable captain of the ship who can maneuver defensively and strategically. I do my best to allow them to maximize their responsibilities
We run a crew of 3 to 4 usually and we've never done anything like this. We have a more symbiotic way of working on the ship, just naturally switching jobs as needed, by the time the PlayStation beta was over we could do it half the time without even calling out orders to each other and so far it's gone near perfect for every engagement with had regardless of the type of enemy
I was always stuck on Bilge.
Never got to pvp, never got to shoot a cannon and never got to steer.
I'm better at it now cuz I'm with a new group. But still I don't have enough experience.
Which doesn't help the fact that Hourglass is only ever played by skilled players now, so I never get to learn anything for pvp outside of the fact that if they have the Ghost sails, it usually means I lose.
Always been a helmsman, at first I hated it and was forced into it to fill the spot for my friends, but I’ve come to really enjoy it as I’ve gotten better and it is super fun now
When I’m playing with my buddy in a sloop, I’m the helmsman and also repairs above. He’ll shoot & repair below, with occasionally boarding. It’s a pretty good system we have. We do , however, constantly have ships chasing us because of our Reaper flag.
I usually stick with
helmsman - steers the ship
Quartermaster - mans the bilge and the rear cannon
Foreman - mans the foreward cannon and foresails on a brig
Midshipman - does the job of your "flex"
When im not on my sloop, im usually the Flex, i combine the fixing and the firing whenever i can
I've always been a helmsman. I know the map (especially the devil's roar) by heart. And if it's the only way to save the loot: I'll take the rowboat to an outpost.
Team of my friends:
Me - Helmsman
Friendo 1 - Boarder (never touch cannons, always boards with sword lunge)
Friendo 2 - Angler (mainly fishing, the primary target for an enemy pirate)
Friendo 3 - Cyka captain (he wants to be called that, always does what he wants)
Instead of a Flex we have a “Boarder” that’s sole purpose is to do nothing until there’s a ship. Then they board the ship and use tnt to blow it up or do something cool
in most open crews this is exactly how we're set up and it's pretty fluent combat most of the time, with my own friends on the other hand, you will never see a single of them do their jobs right without blaming somebody else
Flex. I absolutely do everything when needed. Mainly because I'm the one wgo bought this galleon, my hemer is busy with driving whole time, my canoneer is a trashtalker and my repairman is too blind to see holes and sometimes busy puting a pride flag thinking it's a top tier joke. But I value them as I have no other team
I’m the local helmsmen. But sometimes when it’s not my ship, I’m mostly the flex.
I tend to be a helm. I'm not the best at it, but I'm learning! On bigger ships though, especially with better helmsmen then me, I tend to be bilge or flex. But most often, I'm helming
As a sworn user of the Imperial Stonewall costume, I fully embrace the Minion stereotype and only do Flex and Bilge
Me and my mates are a team of four. I am usually behind the wheel. One is taking care of the sails, repair ship, shoot, getting the water out. The other two, they are drunk.
We have two people on our crew, My friend, the captain, is the main cannon i am expected to steer, repair and board at the same time
Generally I only play solo or duo sloop, so when I duo i'm generally the main cannon. But I also do repairs a lot. Generally me and my bro got insane synch so we can literally rotate between steering, shooting, and repairing, fluidly.
The healm - The Bishop
The cannoneer - The Rook
The bilge - The Knight
The flex - The Mighty Pawn that can become whatever piece is necessary (The Queen)
my teammates, or “friends” are always drunk, so i have to drive, shoot, and repair while they try to get sober…
I tend to be the flex/lookout due to being good with the sniper and tend to help whenever needed.
I typically control Cannon but when I'm playing by myself I do everything😂
Helm; every group I've sailed with has needed someone on the wheel, and I just happened to be available for it lol
Now, I love it, though; there isn't any feeling like hot-anchoring a galleon in the crooks of Snake Island, or jumping a brigantine over the ruins on Wanderer's Refuge. Can't get enough of it!
There is not a single helm that didn’t start out of necessity 🤣
@MichaelisSL true that lmaoo but we all come to love it real quick!
We don't have bildge, instead we have 3 guys in cannons, I'm - helmsman, that repair and lead ship. Also, when I'm free - I can go into enemies ship and in this case, person who was the third on cannons can take my position (it's always the same guy) and he starts repairing and leading ship
Also, when we get a lot of holes, or we got a lot of water - we can ask for help and all of us will start helping
My role. Cannon/Helmsman depends on what is needed of the two and which of my mates I’m crewed with
My buddy just launches himself off the boat immediately, completely wiffs the shot and has to merm back, then launches himself again. Rinse and repeat until he boards the other boat.
I play the role of distraction. Just yells random stuff at the enemy which most of the time means they crash into a rock
I am pretty sure I'm the flex because I do multiple things. I steer the ship during combat, man the guns, watch the ladders, and help repair when needed.
Important note that helmsman should be bilging/sniping whenever possible, since you don’t need to be on a wheel 24/7
I captain and do the sails while fighting the enemy (my teammate plays music lights fireworks and repairs the ship)
When it comes to ship combat I tend to not do any of these and just wildly jump on the enemy ship and throw knives at people until either I die horribly or i kill someone and die slightly less horribly.
When I still played with a friend I took care of the ship and he did the swashbuckling. Worked well, too rusty now though.
Primary Helm here. Full support for my cannoneers, the true heroes.
I’ve only played with one person on a sloop together since I’ve only played for a few days now, they are a pirate legend so they usually do cannons and attacks while I repair, but we found that I’m actually really good as a helmsman as well
Flex crews are the best crews to have because if, in any case, the crew is under attack and all but 1 person is alive, they can still manage the ship and keep everything alive until their tesm returns.
Also the bard because every crew needs a musician
I usually assign a helmsmam, repairs and sails. Then theres me, chilling in my captains quarters. Yes I do help if required
You’re missing a big part, one person has to be designated to get on the enemy’s boat and anchor them/ disrupt them from repairing or shooting cannons. In this case I feel like that’s what the “flex” roll is. You will almost never sink a boat of players who know what they are doing without having at least one team mate on their boat
Back when i was a realy active player i was both the flex and bilge, i played alot so i was realy good with every role, but no-one could keep the ship afloat as good as me.
Me and my mate play on a brig. I do everything while my mate misses every cannon shot and tells me to board and take out a whole galleon crew
After my years of solo slooping, I can'r help but do everything. So I guess that makes me a flex
I usually play helmsman but really do love playing cannon or boarding.
I haven’t gotten the chance yet to play this lovely game, but I think I’d be a helmsman
I do it all because my friends are a bit challenged when it comes to gaming, always a blast though.
“What role are you”
One man Galleon: yes.
Me on a galleon with 3 other people but still doing everything because they are too busy missing all of the cannon balls: yes
Theres also a 5th option.
Where 3 people shoot themselves out of a cannon at the enemy from afar qnd board them.
And the 4th guy applies pressure from the ship.
