Folks, I just wanted to explain why I took the video on the locomotive inventory down. I was so overwhelmed with emails that I could not keep it all straight so I needed to take some time to catch up on the purchases and process the shipments. Once I get caught up and know exactly what is left I may reactivate the video and reload the inventory list on my website, if there is anything left. Thanks for the interest-Larry

Larry, thanks for sharing what must've been a difficult decision after putting so much work into your layout. I'm just getting back into the hobby at 76, presently planning a layout that will easily be taken apart in manageable modules for the same reason - I don't want to leave my wife and kids with a nightmare to dispose of when the time comes. Your videos and MR articles have been an immeasurable help to me. I wish you the best health possible going forward and will be watching for new videos whenever available. God bless.

Larry, I"m so sorry to hear about your health problems and the removal of your layout. It's so very thoughtful of you to consider your wife in this way. When I re-started model railroading at the beginning of the pandemic (after a break of nearly two decades) I decided that my age and health meant a small layout was in order. I've enjoyed my 1x6 foot "micro-layout" very much and recently added a 10x24 inch diorama for taking photos of rolling stock. So small can still be fun. Please take care.

I am sorry to hear the news, but it demonstrates that Larry is a very considerate and thoughtful person. I have always been impressed and trusted his videos. We all know that we cannot railroad forever, but it is very hard to make the decision to start downsizing. Your channel has been a great help to me when I was learning about fitting sound chips. Oh, gosh, what a surprise. I'll miss your regular videos exploring the world of DCC.
I remember my dad got to what I can only guess is a similar stage to you, and ripped out the layout he and I had been working on for for about 40 years. He found a second hand model railway dealer, and just counted up the locos and rolling stock and they agreed on a price, regardless of condition, rarity or whatever per item. He also said the dealer could take whatever else he wanted that he thought he could sell. My dad got easy money, with no effort, although probably about a third what he might have got if everything was sold individually, but it saved him all the hassle. The dealer spent four days boxing up stock and removing buildings, track etc. He probably got a bargain, but he had to work for it! Now, I wish my dad had given me first option, as there were a number of things I'd scratchbuilt or modified that I had a personal attachment to, but the path he chose was certainly the easiest.
I wish you and your family all the best for the future, and look forward to perhaps an occasional video. You have a great record here (and in MR) of all your achievements.

Great you brought up this issue that a lot of us fear.
Personally as long as I have a conscious mind, I think I never could sell my collection(been collecting since I was 6), it would hurt me to much.
But then there is the question are you going to leave it to your dear once, and my answer would be yes.
But what I've done, should the day come that I have to depart from my collection, there is a complete listing of everything in the finest detail.
This listing will be send to a number of shops, I pointed out, and the highest bidder will get it.
Everything is well ordered in my collection, so they only have to put it in boxes, send it off and enjoy the extra money they get for what ever it fancies there hart.
The layout it self, all unit build, I hope that will go (for little money) to a starter and give him a boost in the hobby…

WOW, what a shocker Larry! That must have been a heavy burden on you. So happy to hear you'll still have some modules. That will be plenty to have fun with!! Praying for you Sir!!

Hey Larry, just wanted to say thanks so much for this channel and all of the knowledge you’ve shared with us.
I’ve just gotten back into the hobby after having our first kid, and moving into a place with the perfect spot for a bedroom layout.
Your videos have been invaluable and has given me the confidence to jump back in, and am happy to say I have broken ground on the modules, track plans and some building models thanks to your videos.

😥😥😥What a sad video to watch.
I also have health issues after being released from the hospital last week and my wife asked me to start reducing my train inventory (1400+ items) as she is not aware of the value of the items or wants the burden of disposing of items.
Your videos were very valuable instructions and easy to follow.
    Best, Wiley Tinker

Larry, my sincere thanks for your videos and your writing. You are one of the main people who got me back into model railways 2 years ago from watching your videos, and then as I’ve been (very) slowly building my layout. You have all my best wishes for your health, and look forward to your videos later in the year.

I am deeply sorry but understand this most difficult decision. You have been the greatest inspiration to everyone in the the model railroad community. Personally you had a profound effect in my renewed interest in the hobby. It's good to hear you will be continuing with the channel. Wishing you continued health and the best of luck to you and family in all you're future endeavors.

I understand why you are paring down, but I also hate it for you. You have been such an inspiration for me and others. A lot of items on my layout wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for you. Thank you 🙏 for all you have done. I hope your health continues to go in the right direction, and I look forward to seeing your progress this fall.

Hi Larry, You are being very practical and wise. I can imagine it was a tough decision to take but having spent the last three years sorting out my dad’s estate it would have been much better had he scaled things back and took it slightly easier in his retirement rather than trying to keep a large place going. We had no idea of the worth of some of his things and also what to do with them. It will allow you realise some of the money back and to focus on the things you like the most hopefully for a long time to come. Thank you for all your efforts, skill and professionalism . All the best from across the pond. Alex.

I'm in a situation similar to yours because of my age and I've been wondering what to do with my trains and layout for a long time. Your story opens a new perspective for me and although I regret your decision, I am thinking of imitating it.

Makes us all stop and think for a minute. Where are we headed and what about this large layout I’m building… Obviously you made the right decision as it couldn’t have been an easy one to make. Perhaps we all need to take stock of our future plans. Looking forward to more videos this fall. Have a relaxing summer.

Larry, takes personal courage to make this decision. I have two experiences to dispose of collections from friends who have passed. One fellow had a lot, but his heir gave me only 2 hours to do something which would take several hours. We all need to be responsible for our collections, such that they do not end up in the dump! Thanks for planning a reasonable plan for you collection. Blessings, Andy
