    I remember watching an episode of the tv show American Restoration where Rick went to a guys shop there in Vegas. The guy had made a planishing hammer using a sewing machine. Talk about thinking way outside of the box.

      Carl Fisher at Japhands Kustoms made himself a thumbnail die shrinker with a sewing machine motor on it
      Put up a video or two of it, looked like it worked great

    just found your channel...glad I did. I'm in the process of building a portable hand-held planishing hammer for my 33 chevy project. Love your car... great work so far! I'm still debating how much to chop the top on mine...once it's cut, you're in it for the haul haha.

      Yes once the roof is off. It’s the point of no return.

      @@Theoldironworkshop Thanks for the reply :). I've been asking friends if the top needs to be chopped on my 33 and most say NO because of the stance and because of how low the body is sitting over the frame (I channeled it). IMO if the body is going to be at stock height, then yes chop it but if it's going to be channeled low over the frame and leans down some in the front then it's a big question. Some people like the chop to be a lot but I'm older and would struggle getting in and out of the car haha.

    i just watched your 36 rear fender repair video, i've got a 5 window myself, now i see this with the 40, i've got one of those too! my little shop is 25'x25' here in socal. it seems like we're doing the same stuff. i've gott all new floors to put in my 40 from bob drake when he was getting them. now someone else handles them. i had to do the tail pan on the 36 and the same fender repairs as you plus the lower cowls and a battery cut out in the firewall. these poor car go through hell. i'll be checking out your channel out now too. nice video. enjoyed it.

    Loved this video and I already ordered my piece-o_ to repurpose as well. So I can't wait for you to drop the top on your 40. My question is are you going to stay with the five or go with a 3 window build. I will be following closely on that chop as I've got a 39' Plymouth I want to chop by Winfields next show. Myself thinking 3 window. Thanks, and FAB ON!👍

      Man I’ve been on the fence with what to do with that top for a year. At the moment it’s back burnered. I’ve got a 36 ford I’m working on. I just picked up a 46 ford that I need to get going. Always busy around here.

    I thought all the lightning holes in the frame would be to run pipe through and weld to really stiffen frame and let you run sand inside

    • @Theoldironworkshop
      @Theoldironworkshop  Před 7 měsíci

      That was my original plan. Somehow I decided I didn’t need it. It’s pretty solid and really doesn’t need to be any stiffer. Although the sand would’ve made it a hell of a lot quieter. Whoops. That was one of those style over function ideas I guess

    This does look great, do you think that it works better? I have seen some that look less ridgid than this one started, so I assumed it didnt need to be too heavy or ridgid.

    • @Theoldironworkshop
      @Theoldironworkshop  Před 9 měsíci

      Well, everything has its place. In some cases it works better. I specifically made this to get into spots that I can’t get my other planishing hammer into.

    Hi, I’ve just watched your video did a great job of building new frames. but in my opinion you should have left adjuster as it was overtime with your adjustment Wheel set up will cause the threads to be stripped and as you can see on the video when you start using the hammer the wheel if not locked properly will unscrew its self regards, Eddy.

    • @Theoldironworkshop
      @Theoldironworkshop  Před rokem

      Yes I agree It dash have a lockdown nut, but probably should’ve just left it
      As it was. But I just thought it looked cool the wheel on the bottom.

    I've had that harborfreight planishing hammer before and the welds weren't even close to being that bad. Wow you won't be able to keep sand in it with those holes. I won't be buying klutch brand
