It sends a huge message to the jury that every single detail is of great importance. He knows them and now the jury will know them. Very strong impact.
Just here to say what everyone else has said. Not only did he know the names of every individual killed - but he knows the times, the room numbers, the camera locations and views, etc. this man is incredible and thank you for your service.

You can tell this prosecutor has tremendous respect for the victims. He memorized the whole event in detail and didn't need a single note. That's a truly devoted attorney.

WHAT could the defense even say AFTER this opening argument? He eliminated the "My mom died and I had issues because I had no place to go and a different family took me in." This prosecutor is absolutely phenomenal. He told this entire story without looking at notes and remembered everyone's names where and how everything took place.

The prosecuting attorney has my deepest respect for not having use notes in his description of that horrific event. He honored all the victims and their loved oned by doing so. His efforts are to be commended.

The prosecuting attorney made a horrible argument about an AR-15 though he clearly doesn't know anything about a firearm any gun made in the entire world will shoot as many bullets as the clip will hold. You can take a six shooter it's going to shoot six times till it's empty you could take a pistol a small caliper pistol 9mm or even say a 22 caliper put an extended clip in it that holds extra rounds and it's going to shoot them all you can cause just as much Carnage with a gut Buster ankle pistol as you can a rifle if you know what you're doing

This was in no way an "argument", he was not trying to prove anything about the weapon. The kid has already been convicted this is a sentencing hearing. No matter how many rounds a weapon's magazine may hold, as he correctly stated it can vary. What matters in this sentencing hearing is that he acted deliberately, shooting off and re-loading multiple times, to the point of, again as he correctly stated, firing 70 rounds on the first floor (as I recall without rewinding). So, whether it was a single bolt action or a multi-round clip, he had a choice at every turn and at each one he chose to reload and kill again and again and again. I believe that would be more his "argument" that is relevant to how the court should determine a fair sentence, based on the kid's cold-blooded and merciless killing spree, not the details of how he described clip capacity. The man did an excellent job, why hate on him for such petty gun trivia.

I am a prosecutor and often still use notes for a one-count drug possession case. This prosecutor is absolutely INCREDIBLE-the highest caliber there is. The victims’ families are so lucky to have such a wonderful man fighting for justice for their family members.
Thank you for your service!! I couldn't be a prosecutor or any position in the judicial system. I would lose my job and freedom right away after hearing the details of these horrific crimes.

Michael Satz is definitely the most impressive and sharpest 80year-old I have ever seen. The amount of information he is able to remember and convey is truly incredible and impressive. I would love to meet this honourable man in person.
I must say that it is truly heartbreaking and incredibly traumatic for the families of the victims to listen to the brutal way their loved ones were murdered by this evil monster, especially as the animal was right there in front of them.
Hopefully he will get tortured and suffer the most extreme fear and pain in prison, as there was no justice served in this courtroom.

a wide shot of all the parents is one thing, but the cameras zooming in on specific parents during some of their most emotional moments… disgusting. this is not a tv show, it’s a court room. let them grieve. they should be able to feel safe in that court room as their face their children’s killer, not even more violated.

Showing grief and impact helps the prosecution. If it made you feel some sort of emotion then that’s good. Hopefully it will have equal effect on the jury and Cruz receives the death penalty.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez did it without notes in the Jodi Arias trial.
He was aggressive but a very capable prosecutor. Too bad he was such a pervy creep (so many men in positions of power are, though, that it wasn't especially shocking to find that out).
Master class in prosecuting mass killings. Respecting and paying homage to the victims by recognizing each person & victim involved but not using the name of the murderer who clearly wanted the notoriety and attention. Justice for all involved and their loved ones

I’ve never heard a PROSECUTOR… SPEAK with such vivid memory..such story telling …accurate…descriptive…respectful of all victims shot and those deceased… that is the most talented and gifted attorney I’ve ever heard give testimony upon approach to a Jury.

The memory of this prosecutor is phenomenal. He really put this opening statement into perspective. These parents and family are so strong to be able to sit through this nightmare and hear details. God give them strength to continue to pursue justice and live on continuously fighting in their babies names.

Defendant is such a coward. He can’t even sit up and own what he’s done. He’s trying to look so lost and pitiful. Well, he’s not fooling anyone. He pretends write and discuss his defense w his attorney. Bologna. It’s such an insult to the victim’s loved ones in the courtroom. I can’t even stand to look at him when the camera pans to him. Waste of air. Literally makes me sick. The prosecutor is brilliant. I’ve never seen anyone like him. The parents, loved ones and witnesses are so brave and simply amazing. I’m just heartbroken for these people.

I was a freshman in high school when this happened. Earlier that day (before the shooting), me and my friends talked about what we would do in an active shooter situation. We later found out about the shooting through a twitter news livestream. It’s just such a strange coincidence… it still haunts me to this day… I hope everyone involved heals and lives peacefully.
i was also a freshman at the time, this case resonates with me so much. the fact most of the kids were my age at the time when they were murderered…breaks my heart.

Just starting to look at the court case as of a couple days ago and it is insane. Cruz just walks away and goes to Subway and McDonalds like he never did anything WRONG. My heart breaks for all the family members of this totally senseless murder...

What a PHENOMENAL memory!! I can't fathom how it's humanly possible to recall, organize, and relate such massive quantities and types of details. The effort involved in preparing this presentation was a great show of respect to the victims and their families.

He obviously got to know each victim and their families personally . So difficult to invest this much time and effort and Not to be affected himself. How he was able to recite these heartbreaking facts , and keep it together for these families to receive justice is absolutely commendable to his self control and professionalism .
I mean it’s the only thing he’s worked on for the past 4 years. Reviewed evidence over and over and over interviewed other survivors and families watched videos of the massacre not sure how one could get that out one’s mind/memory especially when it’s your job.
It’s not like this guy just got this info from news reports and got it a month or so ago imagine working it for four years every day with all that evidence and interviews and his disposal. Hours upon hours. Hard not to forget
The prosecutor said he started shooting at 2:21 PM and stopped at 2:27 PM. It only took 6 MINUTES for several lives to be taken in the blink of an eye. So heartbreaking and scary how fast things can happen because of an evil monster

@Christian Riedel Civilians should be armed to protect themselves from a tyrannical government and from crazy killers like this one. If one person in this gun free zone was armed other than this killer then they could have stopped him before he killed so many people. We live in a century that can have just as evil people in it as ever, clearly, regardless of the laws that we have. Why Do you trust in your government? I don't trust in law enforcement because someone can kill 10 people (even with a knife) in a matter of 3 minutes and it would take police much longer to even show up on scene. If a citizen were armed they could stop a crazy person like that in 1 minute and save lives. Let me ask, what do police use to stop these kinds of people? Pepper spray? No, they use guns.

You can tell the prosecutor felt this case. Remembering facts in so much detail, happens only when truly impacted by the information received. My heart goes to those who lost their live, the injured and their loved ones, their families.
Well no. I would trust most prosecution teams to remember detail, that is what they are there for. He's had four years to prepare the case and I would have appreciated it had he used floor maps to indicate the movements and timeline of events. I would also have expected him to explain exactly what the devestating effects the different types of bullets would have had on the human body. I appreciate that it would be tough for the parents to hear, but this is a case of such seriousness that the true consequences of his actions need to be emphasised.
I also think they should have put the defendent in a place where the families of the victims could see him... "give me just 60 seconds with the defendent Judge, 60 seconds. Save the tax payers a whole bundle of dollars"
@@KebabMusicLtd that’s what autopsies are for. They also had a digital reenactment they showed. But I agree that he had plenty of time to gather his case. Some people also have photographic memory and don’t even need much time.
That's not how that works. I remembered details for tests clearly because I studied them and learned them, not because I was "impacted by the information received"

Just in awe of the meticulous attention to detail!! I was picturing everything he said. So scary! As an educator and a mom of teens, this is my worst nightmare! You can tell he wanted to show that these people were human beings not just a number. Someone's child died in that school so viciously. Horrible for the families to have to listen to the horror their loved ones suffered. I pray justice is served.

Imagine spending so much time investigating this murder that he can remember every detail including the number of shots, age, class room, teachers name, and exact time shot for each person shot. He is not memorizing a script as an actor does but I’m positive he can give any detail of any part of this horrific scenario. That is dedication, I can only imagine how many sleepless nights this man will have and has had. He has to have been effected mentally by this on a level nearly as high as family members.

Prosecutor remembered everyone’s name, age and how they were murdered or injured by heart. Obviously he is compassionate and wanted to do right by these innocent victims and their families. He didn’t look at a single note when he gave the opening statement from what I saw on this video. My heart goes out to everyone who was affected by this horrific situation.
He may have learnt the details by preparing so well for the case.

These families are unbelievably strong to be able to sit through this. The prosecutor is excellent. He’s mentioning EVERY SINGLE VICTIM. Much respect. My heart is aching non stop for this and Uvalde. I know there’s more. But these two stick in my mind. I’m glad the shooter wasn’t killed. I do hope he gets death….. but not a quick death. Electrocution would be wonderful. The only REAL victims who are innocent are the ones he’s killed and injured. If he needed help or if he was struggling, he should’ve talked to someone. There shouldn’t be ANY excuses in this situation. Innocent lives were taken too soon; not just kids, but adults as well who did everything they could to protect and keep everyone safe. Hundreds of people in that shooting are traumatized from what they’ve witnessed. You gotta be 12 or something to think he didn’t do it when he pleaded guilty. Get some help kid.
I couldn’t agree more. He killed so many innocent people and injured several others. Those poor families that lost their beloved ones deserve justice. I can’t imagine sending my child to school then hours later they never come back, that hurts. Life in prison means he’ll see another day, and he doesn’t deserve that. I’m sick to my stomach and cannot finish the video. I got to 19:53. Hearing him describe these innocent children going about their daily business is so heartbreaking. I am furious for them. I am so sad for them.

This prosecutor is so amazing, memorizing every single detail plus all the names of each and every single victim and not only that; also all the details of the defendants actions, arms used and the kind of ammunition used. Juan Martinez was also a fantastic prosecutor in the trial of Jodi Arias. Being from Arizona and following the trial when it occurred, it was satisfying seeing him tear her down. The prosecutor here kept his promise to all 17 families who lost their loved ones. He truly shows passion for his job.

I have advanced photographic memory and how he’s describing this makes me think he does to. I’m sure in his research he was taken to the school and walked through being told how it happened. He’s able to remember all the details (with photographic memory, we don’t forget) and is able to tell everything without notes.

This prosecuting attorney is phenomenal. He is succinct, precise, clear, sensitive & respectful. He has clearly invested enormous time & dedicated to justice for these children and their families. Sadly, once again so many red flags provided & no one reporting or intervening before the tragedy.
Ugh watching the families break down listening to the prosecutor describing the events breaks my heart. Giving him death won't bring the victims back but justice must be served.

I’m not sure what is more painful; watching those parents and family members break down in agony, or envisioning the horrific circumstances that occurred that day - the terror and suffering those victims experienced is difficult to even imagine.

As a person who went to Douglas, in Debate Class in the same building he committed his mass shooting (years before the shooting), we once argued should Death Penalty be Allowed. I always argued it should be allowed when the proof is undeniable. And in Cruz’s case it is.
And for that he must be sentenced to death by Firing Squad. Anything less than that, is not justice. (i know florida does not have firing squad.)
