Thomas Brodie-Sangster was 13-years-old when this was made and Keira Knightly was only 18. He was in The Queen's Gambit series on Netflix about chess and in the MazeRunner movies. Currently in The Artful Dodger miniseries. He's now 33 years old.

Fun fact: Kit Harrington (Jon Snow) has said that the scene with Emma Thompson crying in her bedroom is the only scene to always make him cry and that he believes it to be one of the best acted scenes because it so subtle and heartbreaking.

It was great that it explored the many aspects of love instead of just romantic drivel.
The final airport scene, with God Only Knows playing puts me in tears every time, because suddenly it is all real.
Little factoid, Paul McCartney says he cries every time he hears God Only Knows and that it is the best pop song ever created. High praise.

The scene when Emma is crying knowing what her husband was up to.. she cried real tears. Emma marriage to Kenneth Branagh had come to an end back in 1995 when he had an affair with Helena Bonham Carter. They're a super famous presenter duo here. Arguably more famous than Graham Norton!
I love when the British person comes in! I absolute agree with the relief that this wasn't like one of those cheesy romances. When I first watched this it was a movie night at a friend's place. I inwardly groaned when she said this was the movie were all going to watch. But of course I was polite and feigned excitement. And, like you, I was absolutely won over and loved it. ❤
Hahahaha yeah, I honestly wasn't sure how it was going to go with Marc and this one. You know I'm easy when it comes to rom coms, but Marc is usually predisposed to courtroom dramas and thrillers. I was very relieved ;)

I've already left some comments on the full video on Patreon, but will add that this movie is a bad influence. 😂 Me and Mike were at church on Christmas Eve and it came time for the kiddos to do their Nativity reenactment. I turn to Mike and go "But where's the lobster? And the octopus? And Spider-Man???" And he goes "8 is a lot of legs, David", which caused me to giggle and snort.
ALSO, Karl is Paulo (as in Nikki and Paulo) from LOST. I thought for sure you'd recognize him from that!

Merry Christmas! I do wish you had time for Muppets A Christmas Carol because that movie is AMAZING.
But, I love this movie as well. So many different things I could talk about… my favorite “vignette” is probably Colin Firth’s storyline. I think it’s very romantic how they end up with each other, and my favorite line in the whole movie is probably “just in cases”. Emma Thompson is so good. Mr Alan rickman was a very bad boy. I liked they got together at the end but you could tell it wasn’t quite the same. The Joni Mitchell song when Thompson is crying is so perfectly placed in the movie….
- so some fun facts- Emma Thompson wore a fat suit because of how thin she actually was. The guy that went to Wisconsin - he had to come back in to film the part where he was being undressed in the window. He apparently didn’t accept the check he received for that scene because he enjoyed the (21) takes of him being undressed by gorgeous ladies so much lol. And the music video that Bill Nighy’s character was performing in was a reference to a few Robert Palmer music videos with scantily clad women and all - “addicted to love”, “simply irresistible” and “I didn’t mean to turn you on”. On a side note, I think we need to teach Marc some British slang and such lol. Btw, to watch muppets Christmas Carol - on Disney+ you’ll have to go to “extras” and choose the “full length version” instead of the theatrical. Believe me, it’s worth it….

What can I say? You hit it out of the park this time with your comment. You KNOW how much we love trivia and behind the scenes, and this is both informative and helpful. One thing I'll piggyback off of from what you wrote is about the Joni Mitchell song, Both Sides Now. This movie introduced me to her and that song, and it's a favorite of mine to this day. Sadly every time I hear it I immediately think of Emma Thompson breaking down in her bedroom, but I still love it lol

This is such a great movie! And like you said David, it's got a stellar cast. I keep forgetting that Liam Neeson is this one.
It's been awhile since I've seen this one. So, it'll be a great re-watch on this Christmas day.
Some other great Liam Neeson movies that I very highly recommend if you haven't seen them already: High Spirits(1988), Nell(1994), Before & After(1996), The Haunting(1999), Rob Roy(1995), and the Taken trilogy. That's just naming a few of my favorite Liam Neeson films.

Glad y’all enjoyed it! ❤️ I feel like this is one of those movies that give you what you bring into watching them. I’ve seen so many people draw such strange conclusions and perceptions of various character arcs and storylines that I was genuinely baffled. Not to mention that not all the plot lines are meant to showcase a healthy form of love, but rather most of those that humans go through, many “haters” seem to miss that and think that this movie celebrates “toxic” relationships. An absolute misunderstanding imho.

Also, regarding this film, I will just say the interconnecting storylines feel kinda clunky. So, because of that and the strange framing of characters who I'm not sure we're supposed to like, I ACTUALLY (pun intended) don't enjoy this film too much. But, to leave you on a positive note, I hope y'all create some great memories today!
P.s. About Time is s great British movie with some of these actors. The narration just reminded me of it.

Oh sorry, one other thing I meant to say.. I think I mentioned it in the reaction, but if not, a big emotional achilles heel for me is good music. I think the score in this movie - specifically at the end - is so good and probably swayed my affections a little.

It's hard to believe that Emma Thompson started out doing Cambridge University footlights comedy with Stephen Fry and Hugh Lawrie. They then did some long forgotten late night comedy sketch shows (which I really liked) and then they have all gone on to be greats of the show-biz world. As for Emma, her acting has just gone from strength to strength and in my opinion, she just grows more and more beautiful.

Merry Christmas guys! Love Actually is a great Xmas movie, and they tried a similar movie in the US "Valentine Day" with lots of superstars, but it wasn't half as good as this one.
Merry Christmas!! Haha you are right about that. I wanted to love Valentine's Day SO BAD, but something just didn't click for me. And I love pretty much all the actors in it, if memory serves, but yeah, I prefer this over that.
❤Martin Freeman was also in the original (better, in my opinion) version of “The Office” and the Hobbit, and the little boy plays Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones

I only referenced Black Panther because in the reaction because I knew that's all Marc might know him from haha. Unsolicited related side story- in the Men in Tights reaction I told Marc that Cary Elwes was "the bad guy in Twister" (again, because I knew that's all he'd seen him in), and the Princess Bride crowd nearly tore my head off.
I hate this movie, but Emma Thompson is a treasure. From what I've heard she drew from her breakup experience w/ Kenneth Branagh to fuel the crying scene. That's why it seems so remarkably intimate and real. Wonderful performance.

My bit of trivia for this movie is that, as you will have seen, it's meant to represent all the ways we love people (toxic, cheating, first love, friendship, families, friends, etc.) They did cut one story out, in the end, though they did film it and you can find the scenes on CZcams. The principal of the school's wife was dying. So it was... I don't know, end-of-life love? But also, they are a lesbian couple. Hence why cutting that storyline out leaves a pretty heteronormative movie.

Definitely need to watch Muppets Chrietmas Carol, and Muppet Treasure Island. Absolute classics.
I'm one of those ones that's on the fence. Most of the stories are done well enough that I'm interested in where they go, and what is attempted at being conveyed is. They were just extremely predictable and felt no real emotional payoff for 90% of them. Definitely some good acting, and hearty chuckles were had, though the "fat" or "ugly" jokes for people that were no where close to either got old fast. "They'll give them to you for free."😂. Not mad that I watched it, just left flat after.

I'm woefully deficient in my Kevin Smith viewing! Dogma has long been on my list of things to watch, and so I don't know him from that yet. But I'm sure he's brilliant, of course.

No no, you're right, that's Jojen! I was gobsmacked to learn he was 13 in this movie. I thought he was 6 or 7. 😭 (But that wouldn't make sense when that girl kinda fancies him back, so idk what I'm on about). Either way, he's like Ralph Macchio and Michael J. Fox.
Same!! I am shocked by that. But then again, I'm horrible at guessing kids' ages. I can't tell if they're 4 or 14 half the time. And great reference with Ralph Macchio in particular, btw! He does still look really young.
33:47 I probably saw Alan Rickman in Die Hard first. But despite that, I will always see Alan Rickman as his character in GalaxyQuest. I've watched GalaxyQuest *SO* many times. It's one of my favorites. I watched Die Hard maybe twice and I am not a HP fan (even before the troublesome JKR stuff). "By Grabthar's Hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!"

Hey you guys should hit Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa smashed it out of the park as the 15th Doctor and Russell T Davis is on a mission. Great doco just came out called the Doctor and me where Russell describes being a young gay man in the 60's and how that isolation fueled his creative output leading to such masterpieces as Queer as folk and It's a Sin.

Dr Who is a juggernaut of a show and significant contribution to pop culture that has been on my list to watch for years. I have friends who are so obsessed with it, and they basically have a bounty on my head at this point for taking so long to join them as a fellow Whovian. I'll add you to that list haha

That's about what I was figuring on the house- 1 or 2 mil
So biscuits are usually smaller, harder and dunkable into tea. Like Digestives, Hob Nob's, Custard Creams. But cookies are bigger and usually softer - depends on how long you leave em in the oven. So we don't call chocolate chip cookies biscuits, we call em cookies. It probably is hard to distinguish the two when you haven't your entire life haha but it is also kinda hard to explain.@@DavidvsFilm

The young man is in the maze runner movies and Nanny McPhee among many other's and jojen in game if thrones. He is an amazing actor and i think he will do amazing things in the future. I do love this movie but it brakes my heart that Allen's part is a ass.

Never really understood the near rabid following this movie receives. It was okay, there are some laughs, but I found it a mediocre and little odd. Yes, Liam Neeson's son is played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster who is Jojen Reed in Game of Thrones, and he's also in the Maze Runner movies, Nanny McPhee, and about 50 other things. The cast is great. They give great performances and I love them in other things they do. I just don't care for this movie as much. But, to each their own. Muppet Christmas Carol, though... now THAT is a classic, and Michael Caine is the BEST Scrooge.
