Dana says Fedor was big because he wasn't in the UFC what a joke. When Fedor dominated in Pride FC with the best heavyweights around the UFC had as a champ Tim Sylvia. He speaks about the fights he lost past his prime but ignores his reign. Fedor owned the following UFC champs: Tim Sylvia, Andrei Arlovski, Big Nog, Frank Mir, Quinton Jackson, Mark Coleman and Kevin Randleman. Meanwhile when the UFC decided to visit Pride Chuck Liddell got beaten up on the ring and someone like Anderson Silva who wasn't even a belt contender in Pride came in to be the longest reigning champion of the UFC. We know Fedor was past his prime when Dana was saying this but don't pretend he was a myth
Dana forgets that when Fedor was at his prime in the early 2000s, Pride was the top MMA organization. UFC was going down and about to be killed and even when Zuffa bought it initially they were suffering and most top fighters were in Pride. SO YES. Fedor fought in the top and best organization at the time (a.ka Pride). And he went unbeaten and defeated greats like Cro Cop, Big Nog, Mark Hunt and others (INCLUDING several ex-UFC champs).
He was good at that poiny, then after the early 2000's he took the most money for the easiest fights and put several companies in debt or out of business

@AmphibiousKitty I just think he wants out, thats why he fights that way now. In his older fights his punches in the stand up were very accurate and he landed pretty much all of the time. He had great precision. Like homing missles.

Well, back when fedor fought the UFC heavyweight division sucked compared to the guys fighting heavy at pride, so fedor did what he had to do in his era to earn that greatness. I always enjoyed watching fedor fight for he was fearless and had alot of heart. I Respect what he did but even the greatest fighters have to hang up sometime.
I love how ariel helwani brings up arlovski and sylvia who were both ranked at the time and both hyped in the ufc and dana doesn't say anything. I also like how dana convienently left out fedors wins over big nog and cro cop.
Fedor is a great fighter. In my opinion the greatest ever. Opinions are opinions but you cant deny his legacy with great wins for so many years. His calm personality is what also inspires people i think. Not being a bully nor a smacktalker, just a fighter.
It's been 6 years but if you still want to know what he meant .. old Indian/Hindu scriptures state that the Sun God sits in a chariot driven by 7 horses and he continually keeps circling over the Earth. I can imagine Dana was referring to this when he made that statement.
@SuperMatthew32 Well Hendo wasnt the best fighter in Strikeforce, he got dominated by a WW in Shields and theres other guys like King Mo, Bigfoot etc who would beat him to
Fedor has score 13-3 against UFC/former UFC fighters (if we don't count Maldonado and Schilt) and 7-1 against former UFC champions. He finished 4 former UFC champions in 5 matches and he defeated Nougeira 2 times on the ground. He is undefeated in Pride and he was undefeated for 10 years.
Magician 122 Dana is so disrespectful to the fighters, than he is wondering why they don't like him or don't wanna fight! Same with Woodley, DJ, Miocic, Khabib.....and the list goes on! At the begining of your career you don't fight big names, I think that is normal for all the fighters! Who did Conor fight when he started, they were also low ranked fighters! And to say that Fedor turned down the big fights ,as he were scared of them is so disrespectful. Fuck Dana, he should be traded 😂😂😂
@WadeGHamilton thank you, man ive been telling everybody that and they don'y listen....... glad to see someone with some real mma knowledge like me and you
@SuperMatthew32 The big guys like Bigfoot and Overeem would have wrecked him, hell even Sergei would to...and if he fought at MW again I'd pick Jacare over him to, his takedowns are better then Shields and he would have exposed Hendo's meh takedown defense to. Sure Shields didnt finish him, but he still dominated the bigger guy and the 'Olympic level' wrestler
@AznboiY2J Great point. I feel the same about Tito even though i'm not a fan of his. Yea, he's been losing but I believed he still had great ability just as Fedor does. Being the P4P best is different from being the greatest of all time. No, I don't think Fedor is P4P best anymore but I think he is the GOAT. He's what a fighter should be and that's fearless. There's too many fighters today who play it safe. Fedor gave it his all regardless of an opponent's certain strength.
People aren't listening to Dana. He's not saying "Fedor Sucks." He's saying that Fedor wasn't fighting the best fighters after Pride. Even in Pride, he didn't fight a lot of good guys one after the other. You could argue his beast streak was Syliva/Arlovski/Rogers, since they were all top 10 fighters at the time. Fact is that Fedor was the best at one point. Then, Anderson Silva and GSP came into their own in the UFC and took that title away.
@pelopota I know. I'm talking about a streak of fights, as in fighting three top guys in succession. He fought Khosaka between the third Nog fight and his fight with Cro Cop.
i respect the fact that fedor had the long string of wins, but it's hard to say who is the best fighter ever, cause you can always argue about who they fought and what point in their opponents career in which the two fought.
Ppl understand this. During Fedor's streak UFC had no top HWs. Then Sylvia & AA were top UFC HWs. Fedor beat them. Then he has a match against Barnett who was ranked num 2. Then comes along is Lesnar in the UFC. Fedor was in the time where MMa was getting popular & starting to revolve. So nobody say Fedor wasn't fighting top comp. If he would of fought Barnett, win or lose. That would of added to his resume. Plus when Couture wanted Fedor.
Everyone should watch Mauro Ranallo's debate with Dana from yesterday, Dana actually admits that Fedor was the best heavyweight in the world...unfortunately he is also right with saying that that time has definately passed now but also well done Mauro for standing up, unlike other MMA media...

@progress200 Right. Still, it's not like you can't see the bullshit. Roger Huerta (one of my fav LW) was like rank 4-5 in the UFC and had a contender match before he left. After got beat twice when was in Bellator with one being in a dominating fashion which no one in UFC had done to him. That being said, obviously there are fighters in other organazations that can compete with UFC fighters meaning they are not the best of the best. And there are plently more examples that can be made.
I did find it a lil odd that he left out some pretty big names in that list. Oh well. Would still like to see a Couture v Fedor fight. They had talked about it off and on lets get it done...=)
hahahahaha ariel was just laying into dana unrelentingly completely unprovoked, I especially liked how he slipped in the "bald head" comment at 00:58 hahaha
@jkramar That's so true man...but let's not forget Fedor never claimed to be best, he simply just fought who ever they gave him. It was the media and his restarted fans who overhyped him the whole time.
@julianownz I agree. When Fedor dominated the HW division in pride, who did the UFC have? Oh thats right, Silva, Arlofski, guys Fedor fought later (still in there prime) and beat.
Holy shit does he carry a list around of all the people Fedor fought? but look yeah fedor lost and is retired, but the ufc aint thriving either. you got the newly defeated anderson silva who was the pound for pound best mma fighter, he lost to weidman who only had 9 fights prior. The heavyweight division consists of only Velasquez and JDs because overeem got caught with roids. GSP got no competition because he beat them all. Jon Jones is good but also got no competition.
Best statement ever about Fedor homers: "These are the same people that believe that a guy is pulling the sun in a chariot over the fuckin earth." Classic!
@TweaksterXXX Its not that hes out of his prime.. recently he has fought great modern day competition... I will give him his props, he beat nog, and cro cop in pride.. and back then he very well couldve been the best heavyweight... but also back then the HW division sucked.. he WAS the best in the world. he just hasnt changed his game to suit a cage yet. you notice with bigfoot and hendo, they both saw holding him against the cage to wear him down as part of the strategy. all it does is hurt fedor, who has like no clinch game, and makes him more vulnerable later. if you brought them into the ring, pushing people against the rope, gives the other some leverage to get on top.
hmmm, didn't really know about the whole paying the fighters instead of the managers, sounds logical and fair. Wonder if any fighter stiffed his trainer or manager after a fight?

The problem is with Tito Ortiz is win or lose it doesn't look bad on him, but in retrospect, looks bad on Evans. Tito Wins, Reaction "Wow, he came in after 3 weeks and beat Rashad!" Evans Wins, Reaction "Well Tito only had 3 weeks after his last fight" Win win for Tito, Lose lose for Rashad. GO RASHAD!
@PhukAdvertisements silva plays it safe against a ground fighter tho if he knows the person is better on the ground he wants nothing to do with it and he wont go in for the kill, but other than that silva is unreal
@ryan803 No one is denying that because Fedor is not in his prime and is on his decline was Anderson is still at his peak. However people make it seem like Fedor was never good in the first place
@NightManiacsInc Fedor in his prime was great, but people were continuously calling him the p4p best fighter in the world when he was fighting less than stellar competition in his last what.. 8 or 9 fights? Hell Coleman was in 2006 and that was just before he retired for a bit. Not to mention the level of complete martial artists out there now is so far above what Pride ever had. Fedor was great for a bit, but let's not pretend he was ever the #1 HW or P4P fighter in the last 6 years.
People Respect Fedor because he's their to fight, Not trash talk like most of the crappy UFC fighters, They can talk the talk but their skills suck, Koscheck- Serra-Bisping-Diego Sanchez-Ed Herman-Joe Stevenson, ect....
Everyone should watch Mauro Ranallo's debate with Dana from yesterday, Dana actually admits that Fedor was the best heavyweight in the world...unfortunately he is also right with saying that that time has definately passed now but also well done Mauro for standing up, unlike other MMA media... video.thescore.com/watch/mauro-ranallo-with-dana-white
@ryan803 Do you watch MMA? Or did you at all watch that fight? GSP took Shields down 1 time in that fight for a total of about 20 seconds. Watch MMA fights, then maybe we can have an intelligant conversation.
i dont rate fedor as one of the best or w/e, i wasnt watching mma @ that time where he was claimed the best but, you seem to not mention certain fights eg fedor vs Crocop fedor vs big nog fedor vs heth herring
I think Dana is right and wrong about WMMA. The problem is that the focus is on the weight classes of 135 and above. The pool is so shallow at 145 that Cyborg almost can't even get a fight. Their just aren't a lot of women who walk around at 135 pounds or higher, even athletic women. I think shifting focus to the lower weight classes would result in a larger pool of good female fights.
Fedor had a much better first round fight with hendo than the last 5 boring ass GSP fights or UFC main events for that matter fedor comes to fight not like boring ass wrestlers in the ufc fedor Deserves respect for what he did for mma like all of the early fighters in pride and the ufc. i do admit his days might be gone but he was at the top at one point!
Dana is only half right. Ariel is more right that he was the best at the time. Dana forgot to mentioned that Fedor also beat Crocop who beat Josh Barnett 3 times, as well as beating up Minotauro twice and then 3 years later Minotauro went on to win the UFC heavyweight title from Tim Sylvia who went out to fight Fedor 5 months later only to lose to him in 36 seconds! Fedor was the best up until 2009 where I believe he started to look old & rusty against subpar opponant such as Brett Rogers.
@tacosaucemafia Back in Pride, my favorite fighters were Shogun and Wanderlei. Now, I like Nick Diaz, BJ Penn, and Cain Velasquez. In my mind, Fedor has always been way overhyped. I mean, most of his wins are against ex-wrestlers or guys that were fighting for the first time in MMA. Yeah, he beat Arlovski and Sylvia. But look at when he beat these guys. When they were downward spiraling.
I agree that the aura of Fedor was really a bit overkill. However, he goes tries to discredit him by saying there were guys in the UFC who deserved it during the time that everyone said he was the greatest. Who? Rutten, Randleman, Couture, Barnett, Ricoo Rod. Arlovski, Sylvia? I mean....maybe he wasn't fighting the best in the world but I wasn't screaming about him coming over here to face those guys in 2005-2009. I mean, he fought half of those guys anyway.
Fact is that these guys are good fighters but have no competition left. The other weight classes i just dont care for. If UFC was still in the era of Liddell, ortiz and couture at this time then it would be more interesting.
@passtheuzi You do realize that When fedor fought alot of the guys he did they were in their prime and like I had said in a previous comment the UFC heavyweight division sucked compared to the pride heavyweight division back in 2000-2005 when fedor was fighting and dominating but times change and skills evolve just like in every sport.
@xhectichectorx my stand is that so many people are talkin shit about fedor because he has a string of losses but they dont look at the fact that hes beaten the best of a division that at its time was light years ahead of the hw division in the ufc and beat these guys in their prime yet since he refused to work for dana he goes out of his way to say he was never that good and i find it totally disrespectful.fighters age fast so hes not the best right now but in his prime thats a diff story

Win win for Tito, Lose lose for Rashad.
GO RASHAD!
@PhukAdvertisements silva plays it safe against a ground fighter tho if he knows the person is better on the ground he wants nothing to do with it and he wont go in for the kill, but other than that silva is unreal
Win one fight in 3 years>Everyone is a fan again
Fedor isnt a myth! He was the greatest fighter in MMA history period! Fedor in 2005 was in his prime!
@ryan803 No one is denying that because Fedor is not in his prime and is on his decline was Anderson is still at his peak. However people make it seem like Fedor was never good in the first place
@elheadkickio No, I was just listing an example of a job off the street anyone could get.
Reading these comments makes me realize that the worst thing about being an mma fan is other mma fans. Intentional ignorance is truly agitating.
@TweaksterXXX look at how many more fights he has had compared to most ufc fighters and his fight were mostly all wars

@ryan803 Do you watch MMA? Or did you at all watch that fight? GSP took Shields down 1 time in that fight for a total of about 20 seconds. Watch MMA fights, then maybe we can have an intelligant conversation.
I LOVE YOU ARIEL! best reporter in mma!
My comparison was actually for Anderson silva!! Not fedor.
i was never a fedor hype buyer. and ive always used the word delusional to describe his fans. thanks dana for agreeing.
@WadeGHamilton - Anderson's loses were years ago- Fedors lost wee in the last year.
i dont rate fedor as one of the best or w/e, i wasnt watching mma @ that time where he was claimed the best but, you seem to not mention certain fights eg
fedor vs Crocop
fedor vs big nog
fedor vs heth herring
Dana your the man! THUMBS UP!
@gotBIGcolas
sweet comment bro
@xhectichectorx my stand is that so many people are talkin shit about fedor because he has a string of losses but they dont look at the fact that hes beaten the best of a division that at its time was light years ahead of the hw division in the ufc and beat these guys in their prime yet since he refused to work for dana he goes out of his way to say he was never that good and i find it totally disrespectful.fighters age fast so hes not the best right now but in his prime thats a diff story
@TheXYGene And Dr. Evil when he wears that grey suit.
