Another GREAT interview. Love to hear when Dana talks about the competition like that. LMAO @ Ariel's face when Dana just said, "Matt Lindland? Come on."
don't think it's being said enough but big ups to Dana for being such a stand up guy... You can talk to him like he's one of the guys, that's a pretty rare sight . Keep it up buddy
@bighed33 Saki wasn't doing much to Overeem and Alistair was passive because he's a fighter that waits for his opportunities to strike instead of throwing a lot of stuff. Overeem would likely have beat Saki no matter what. The only thing you can say about the tournament was that guys like Hari and Bonjansky weren't there.
@Thebadguy1987 I think Overeem's chin would be more suspect against Cain's power than the other way around, but in the standup, either one could score a flash KO at any time. Assuming this fight could make it into the championship rounds, I have to think Cain's cardio would be far superior.
@ThaAnswer1203 Anderson has already said he would never consider dropping. Changing your whole training schedule, diet; basically your way of life for one fight isn't worth it. That shit can affect a fighters career big time. Not to mention Silva has been 185 for over 4 years.
@2AlexRocks2 I agree. I'm not declaring him a world beater yet only saying he is showing potential. He will get a chance to prove it when he fights Werdum and Fedor.
@bbv001 what he was saying is that the UFC puts on more competitive matches... with better competition... anyone can put together a one-sided fight, that's not what the UFC does
@deadzior Overeem is currently under contract. UFC can't go anywhere near him until his contract is up, and depending on Strikeforce's "Champions Clause"
@bangletits I forgot who Dana's boss is, but I think it was the owner of Zuffa who said that he'd love to put that together. He said that before Belfort vs Silva and before Kos vs GsP so I hope it happens but I dont think Silva would want to fight GsP in a catchweight.
@bbv001 Like he said, they were terrible terrible mismatches. How else did you expect Daley vs Smith to end? Flying gogoplata? Lawler vs Lindland.. from the second I heard about that fight I knew Lindland was just a sacrificial lamb. Hendo v Babalu was the only competitive fight on that card.
@sirtechy hes right about overeem how can you rank a guy who mainly fights k-1 top ten he has defended his strikeforce belt 1 time since winning it almost 3 years ago after he won he went back to k-1 winning k-1 doesnt make you top 10 and fedor eh maybe he'd do good in ufc hard to say you cant say that they would mow through the division though because the only way to tell is to put it to the test.
lol Dana, SF didnt have all mismatches...Smith vs Daley was a striker vs striker, with Smith actually having a ground game over Daley, not forgetting he's a former MW, who was known to have an iron chin fighting MW's. Lawlor vs Lindland was a classic wrestler vs striker, Lindland could have gave him trouble if he got him down but he got caught early, his 3 losses before that were against the best (Fedor, Belfort, Jacare). Babalu vs Hendo wasnt either, Hendo just crushed him
@bragladish I hope your right. Although the UFC provides some fights and fighters I like, I don't like the fact that they have a strangle hold on the sport. I don't care if it is Strikeforce, or Bellatore, or any other organization, I just want the UFC to have some competition.
fair points on overeem. k1 is k1 and mma is mma. ranking guys based on their success in other sports and limited showings in mma is crazy. based on that logic satoshi ishii must be at least top 5
@DawnOFMMA The only truth is that the best heavyweight fights for Strikeforce, Overeem, Fedor, and lets put Werdum in the mix, the best jiu-jitsu HW practicioner for sure.
@the1EGYPTIANVIZIER Don't forget Mike Kyle and Mousasi. Strikeforce's LHW div isn't half bad, though it's not as stout as the UFC's. The only gaping hole that SF has is WW, which is pretty much Diaz and Daley atm. Woodley and Saffiedine are coming up to fill in those ranks.
@rvalenz I can answer that. Lindland was on a nice streak, having won 10 of 12 fights before facing Vitor, which included losses to Fedor and Rampage (out of his weight class). Vitor came in and absolutely destroyed Lindland. Since then, Lindland has grown old overnight (starting with the Vitor fight with losses to Jacare and Lawler. At the time, Vitor's win over Lindland was impressive. Plus, Vitor came in and KTFO'd Franklin in his first fight so no one should be bitching about him
@DawnOFMMA The last time Overeem got knocked out in MMA was years ago. Rogers and Crocop were not shitbanged bums. The fact is that Overeem has alot of momentum going into the next year. He is 6-0 in combat sports for the year and prepared to defend his Strikeforce HW title against Top 5 opponents like Werdum and Fedor if they are up to the challenge.
@bbv001 ya, one night of good shows...dana's point is that the UFC strives to put on THE best shows EVERY time, and from my experiences they have done nothing less. The few strikeforce events I have seen weren't anything to get excited about and I was actually disappointed.
there shouldn't be any dispute wether strikeforce or the ufc puts on better cards. The ufc by far. Strikeforce fights would have trouble making a ufc main card
Dana was right about the mismatches: Lindland shouldn't be fighting. And while Paul Daley made a big mistake at the end of the Koscheck matchup, he was still fighting for UFC title contention there, whereas Scott Smith didn't make it in the UFC.
@DawnOFMMA didn't tap the jaw the right away? that can apply to anyone man, getting knocked out is just getting hit in the right spot, fighting in K-1 helped Overeem tighten up his defense, look at them trying to hit him hardly any powershots got through to him, and thats a good thing. and i agree, he has yet to fight a top tier heavyweight in mma, people are just basing his hype off his potential and the way he beat brett rogers so easy, easier than fedor did.
I feel like the guys in strike force have been saying "fuck it im in strikeforce" and just have been putting on better fights recently, lota ufc decisions no one wants to lose in the ufc.
sucks that it seems that alistair is stuck over at strikeforce cus he doesnt get any fights. now that he has the k1 title i think he should focus on getting good fights and getting over to the ufc, so that he can show the fans what an awesome fighter he is.
@dafuksup I have followed both Strikeforce as well as UFC for about the past 5 years. I just cant see but maybe 4 fighters from Strikeforce that could make it in UFC, Just sayin.
What bums me out is that Koscheck's eye was no worse than Fedor's eye when he fought bigfoot. Although if Fedor was allowed to continue he probably would have been stopped in the third, I still would have liked to see him go that last round... you never know what can happen in a fight.
@AlwonDomz LOL That's because it was at the Bell Center, of course all those people there will vote for GSP... Did you hear the difference of the crowd whenever the camera would switch to Koshcheck - GSP.... It was either all cheers, or all boos! That's why he got the fight of the night lol the crowd was biased XD
@TheNewIdiotBox, Arlovski was ranked top 2 when he fought him. Go on google and do a research and you'll see it for yourself. Nog was ranked number one when Fedor beat him; Minotauro was on his absolute prime.
@DannyPhanx Actually it is safe to rank him atleast top 10, especialy when there's a man named Roy Nelson who's top 10(Rofl) And Roy nelson lost to Arlovski, who lost to Brett Rogers! The same guy Overeem demolished! He's gonna fight Todd Duffee who very recently fought in the UFC if he wins, that just adds to his credibility! He's also a veteran of this sport that fought since Pridefc, against some top fighters like Shogun, Werdum, kharitonov, Noguiera,Paul buentello, Vitor Belfort etc.!
@bangletits alves natural weight is about 205 and he cuts to 170. alot of fighters cut alot of weight, it isnt that difficult with hard training every day and a healthy diet
@negativespace66 well i think it's true, ufc does not have all the best shows and all the best fighters. but they have a lot of the best fighters and put on really good shows, so why do people like to hate on the ufc? if your an mma fan, great, watch the fights, don't argue about which company is the best, just watch the fights you think you'll like.
@gekko101 Overeems ground game has not been tested against a wrestler like Cain,Carwin or Lesnar so you dont know if he can get up easily from great wrestlers like that
the betting lines for the SF show: Hendo was -250, Daley was -365 and Lawler was -170... and UFC's card: GSP -600 Yeah, that's not lopsided at all! and what about the Struve fight? That was a total gimme/ mismatch!
May. Awesome...thank you. It wasn't all that long ago. Overeem is the man, White wishes he could sign him. I also wish Overeem would sign with the UFC, to show the world he is the best.
@stockmaster1982 lol, a keylock is an arm hold. The other name used for the same move is "americana". I just described what Mark Hunt had Fedor in twice during their fight. I'm sure I went and googled it though lol. I've only been asking you since you started the "TUF" nonsense. You should use this as a lesson on what not to say to people, especially if you don't know what you're talking about.
@Malk64 dude you can't use the strikeforce heavyweights as an example since he has only fought there twice in the last 3 years yes he has been doing k-1 ok you can say thats why he won't sign but to use the strikeforce division as an excuse is bs because he would have to fight there and defend his belt more then once every 3 years to make that argument
@ThaAnswer1203 Obviously you can change weight classes. The reason they're the weight they are is because that's their comfort zone, what they feel comfortable fighting at. Neither will take the huge risk and leave their comfort zone. You're clearly the new one to MMA.
the end is great with ariel almost laughing lol he is right about strikefarce but i disagree about alistair, imagine a alistair vs mir, he would kill him, same thing with nogueran not saying that he is top 5 but he is top 10 easy for me
Another GREAT interview. Love to hear when Dana talks about the competition like that. LMAO @ Ariel's face when Dana just said, "Matt Lindland? Come on."
@Pwnvidz i agree with your assessment of the gsp fight, good luck with your training, cheers
don't think it's being said enough but big ups to Dana for being such a stand up guy...
You can talk to him like he's one of the guys, that's a pretty rare sight . Keep it up buddy
"whens the last time he defended his mixed martial arts title!?"
"...may"
Cheers for asking the big question bud.
@prooc good point
Who misses Ariel and Dana interviews
Everyone because Ariel actually got answers. All the new ESPN mma reporters read off a script
@DawnOFMMA i wouldn't say he is glass jawed, he just went through k-1 heavyweight gp with abunch of monster hitters and was never badly hurt.
@bighed33 Saki wasn't doing much to Overeem and Alistair was passive because he's a fighter that waits for his opportunities to strike instead of throwing a lot of stuff. Overeem would likely have beat Saki no matter what. The only thing you can say about the tournament was that guys like Hari and Bonjansky weren't there.
i like this interviewer he dosnt give people a break and knows his shit, he asks what people wanna hear
GSP vs. Silva in Toronto in April nuff said!
ur a great interviewer!
@Thebadguy1987 I think Overeem's chin would be more suspect against Cain's power than the other way around, but in the standup, either one could score a flash KO at any time. Assuming this fight could make it into the championship rounds, I have to think Cain's cardio would be far superior.
Lol at the Tank Abbott toe hold
I think Alistair Overeem vs ether Lesnar or Carwin would make a hell of a match to see who´s facing Velasquez after he beats down Dos Santos.
@UfcTapout214
lol, the only shields fight you've watched is the kampmann one? nice man.
@ThaAnswer1203
Anderson has already said he would never consider dropping. Changing your whole training schedule, diet; basically your way of life for one fight isn't worth it. That shit can affect a fighters career big time. Not to mention Silva has been 185 for over 4 years.
@MMAharaja yes but his record in the ufc is 1-3 and koscheck's record is now 13-5 in the ufc.
@2AlexRocks2 I agree. I'm not declaring him a world beater yet only saying he is showing potential. He will get a chance to prove it when he fights Werdum and Fedor.
struve fights are always exciting. it s like the polar opposite of a gsp fight.
i rly hope one day ufc aquires allistar hes so exciting to watch, id love to see how he does against people like cain.
Love Helwani's 'may'.
Was Dana high? I can't seem to remember that there was a 2nd round of Struve vs McCorkle?? Or am i mixed up :S ??
I love how candid dana is. its fucking awesome
man I love a DW interview
@jchapple9 I agree, but if the fight goes to the ground shields might pull a upset!
@xkillaz18x he had phil nurse and greg jackson but who was the other guy? i forgot his name
GSP looked great striking, that time with Freddie Roach paid off I guess. His take downs were crazy fast too.
@bangletits I feel that Silva vs GsP would be the best.
@NithianKOE ye true, i think gsp will be able to stop his takedowns
I miss these two together
@bbv001 what he was saying is that the UFC puts on more competitive matches... with better competition... anyone can put together a one-sided fight, that's not what the UFC does
haha. May!
First time dana didn´t say "Thanks buddy"...
The last two Q were great.
@Damondeeh20 ya i think an overeem vs lesnar fight would be sick.
@deadzior Overeem is currently under contract. UFC can't go anywhere near him until his contract is up, and depending on Strikeforce's "Champions Clause"
@SuperiorBeen that would be nice to see.
I'm looking forward to Alistair Overeem fighting in MMA next year. The hype for this guy will be tremendous now that he is a K-1 WGP champion.
@bangletits I forgot who Dana's boss is, but I think it was the owner of Zuffa who said that he'd love to put that together. He said that before Belfort vs Silva and before Kos vs GsP so I hope it happens but I dont think Silva would want to fight GsP in a catchweight.
Omg GSP vs Silva at Roger Center would be epic. I Think Dana White will put it on because he is soo consistent.
haha. May!
First time dana didn´t say "Thanks buddy"...
The last two Q where great.
@17james17 exasctly, i was hoping ariel would ask him that but it was clear that he had struck a nerve and didnt want dana to box him.....
@bbv001
Like he said, they were terrible terrible mismatches.
How else did you expect Daley vs Smith to end? Flying gogoplata?
Lawler vs Lindland.. from the second I heard about that fight I knew Lindland was just a sacrificial lamb.
Hendo v Babalu was the only competitive fight on that card.
@DanielSel
I agree he wouldn't be bashing him if he was in the UFC
@sirtechy hes right about overeem how can you rank a guy who mainly fights k-1 top ten he has defended his strikeforce belt 1 time since winning it almost 3 years ago after he won he went back to k-1 winning k-1 doesnt make you top 10 and fedor eh maybe he'd do good in ufc hard to say you cant say that they would mow through the division though because the only way to tell is to put it to the test.

Dana keeping it real.
Ariel getting the good interviews... couldn't be better.
@MysticNinjaJay Much respect, you know what you're talking about
@bragladish I hope your right. Although the UFC provides some fights and fighters I like, I don't like the fact that they have a strangle hold on the sport. I don't care if it is Strikeforce, or Bellatore, or any other organization, I just want the UFC to have some competition.

@toffrashid actually dana does like allistair...i've seen them talking and joking around with each other multiple times
Helwani is a good interviewer
Good job Ariel. Very professional interview. One day you will enter the UFC Hall of fame.
This is the Real Dana White on Fire!! Dana for President 2012
@DannyPhanx Yeah for sure, I mean this is MMA and anything can happen. I'd like to see Overeem in the UFC. Great match ups would be made.
@MalachorWraith
Great analysis, they really should pay you for that.
@Oldsmobility98 ya i agree maybe a fight at cro cop
9:55 lmao ariel always asks the tough questions
hey what about carlos condit against gsp? that might be interesting
@VillainsvsVillains i COMPLETELY AGREE!
@rvalenz I can answer that. Lindland was on a nice streak, having won 10 of 12 fights before facing Vitor, which included losses to Fedor and Rampage (out of his weight class). @road35 No, Werdum got cut. He never left. Look it up on his Wikipedia page.
Ariel - Ask if Ralek Gracie is going to be offered a spot in UFC or at least bring him in on the next TUF? Thanks!
@skillsthatkills4832 best fight for now would def be gsp vs anderson silva if gsp moves up in weight
Dana was right about the mismatches: Lindland shouldn't be fighting. And while Paul Daley made a big mistake at the end of the Koscheck matchup, he was still fighting for UFC title contention there, whereas Scott Smith didn't make it in the UFC.

jim miller is a badass. I hope he gets noticed more and becomes champ.
sucks that it seems that alistair is stuck over at strikeforce cus he doesnt get any fights. now that he has the k1 title i think he should focus on getting good fights and getting over to the ufc, so that he can show the fans what an awesome fighter he is.

Jake Shields vs St Pierre will be epic.
@Malk64 Alistair says that he wants the UFC title.
I think it will happen, if he keeps winning, he will eventually find his way into the ufc
"GSP looked like he tried to finish the fight"???
Ariel, what have you been smoking?!?! Hahaha!
@AlwonDomz LOL That's because it was at the Bell Center, of course all those people there will vote for GSP... Nick Diaz landed more Jabs then GSP in the KJ Noons fight Scott Smith and Shamrock fight
@bbv001 yea strikeforce had a good show, but its like comparing MLS and UEFA.,., i love strikeforece but its a class b or c show
@negativespace66 well i think it's true, ufc does not have all the best shows and all the best fighters. but they have a lot of the best fighters and put on really good shows, so why do people like to hate on the ufc? if your an mma fan, great, watch the fights, don't argue about which company is the best, just watch the fights you think you'll like.
@ZolezZpX I doubt he would get kicked out, he's still pretty good.
@gekko101 Overeems ground game has not been tested against a wrestler like Cain,Carwin or Lesnar so you dont know if he can get up easily from great wrestlers like that
@dblack25 robbie used to be a knockout machine in early ufc and lindland well he has been getting knockout rececently
the betting lines for the SF show: Hendo was -250, Daley was -365 and Lawler was -170... and UFC's card: GSP -600 Yeah, that's not lopsided at all! and what about the Struve fight? That was a total gimme/ mismatch!
@WesSideCali Nelson, but yes i agree
May.
Awesome...thank you. It wasn't all that long ago. Overeem is the man, White wishes he could sign him. I also wish Overeem would sign with the UFC, to show the world he is the best.
100K for fight, submission and KO of the night.....outstanding! Keep it up Dana!
@StupidTeddybear Theres a fight going to be held there June 11th/ 2011
didnt say who tho.
Im pretty stoked. =P
@stockmaster1982 lol, a keylock is an arm hold. The other name used for the same move is "americana".
I just described what Mark Hunt had Fedor in twice during their fight. I'm sure I went and googled it though lol. I've only been asking you since you started the "TUF" nonsense.

man leave strikeforce alone. I liked the fights. Cant wait to see the reem maybe him vs big foot silva.
the end is great with ariel almost laughing lol he is right about strikefarce but i disagree about alistair, imagine a alistair vs mir, he would kill him, same thing with nogueran not saying that he is top 5 but he is top 10 easy for me
@omgstoptakingnames who is the just bleed guy?
