Tenere 700 Spark Plug Mod For Easy Access

  • This is my take on the Yamaha Tenere 700 spark plug mod that has been getting around the internet lately - I can vouch that it works and is well worth doing. By simply removing a useless plastic wiring harness bracket permanently, you can gain access to both spark plugs from the right hand side of the bike without removing much else at all. I also show a handy spark plug tool that is lightweight and easy to add to your kit, that will remove the T7 plugs with ease. I also replace my plugs with some NGK Iridium, the bike only has 10,000km on it but it will be good for another 30k+ now. See our main CZcams channel here: / mvdbr
I didn't come up with this mod. Credit & thanks go to the following:

If you're having trouble getting the left-hand coil fully out, try moving the wiring harness above it forward towards the front of the bike as you're pulling the coil up and out. That may be easier than pushing the wires backwards. I'm not sure (can't remember) which way worked for me in the end.

Спасибо что предупредили как это сложно сделать.

Im looking forward to doing this next to the river in the mud 😂

Great video Josh you good logical steps and well explained

I just did the complete change in about an hour. The easiest way to get the spark plug coils out is to get a length of electrical wire (~300mm long), double it over to form a loop at one end. Now twist the 90 degree connector on top of the coil tube so it is easier to access. Take your wire loop & poke it down (from directly above the coil tube) so that the loop slips over the 90 degree connector. Now you can pull directly up on the tube, no need for any spray lubricants. Because you are pulling straight up, there's no need to lever anything & you won't break the tube. You will find that if you just loosen the ABS/rectifier module you can then push it to the left & get direct access to the plug. The left plug is just as easy to change as the right using this method. There is no need to remove crash bars, radiator or rearrange any of the wires. You just undo the fuel tank, twist it 180 degrees & sit it where the seat goes. No need to remove any hoses, just the electrial connector. Also, place something over your battery to prevent the chance of shorting your tank across the terminals. That method that Clubby shows in his video is absolute rubbish & makes you think its a hard job when, with a bit of thought, its actually quite easy & quick. If anyone's in the Brisbane area & needs a hand then let me know, always happy to help!

Nice work. I was not looking forward to my first plug change but feel inspired now. Phew.

Plug change every 20.000km. So it's not like you would have to do it every now and then. Also grease on the spark coils is a NO NO. There's a reason why they come dry and you want them to stay on and not move a tiny bit! And get rid of that extra air filter you will fuck up the air fuel mixture. All these "mods" will bring problems on their own.

Thanks for that. I was concerned about my up-coming plug swap. Slightly less so now!

Nice mod. A battery powered ratchet comes in handy.

This looks much easier than another method I watched. Thank you very much for taking the time to put this video together. Very helpful.

Well I just did your mod and have to say this could be BS, unless you show us on video how you pulled out the left side without the removal of the ABS controller. Looks good on video, but you dont show actual removal then have to say BS. I'm going to add to this video to show you a easy way to pull the coils out and remove the spark plugs. Due to I am left handed it was impossible to lift them out, un less you check out my added mod.

Hi Josh, did the mod yesterday. Cable try out and wires out of the way, however all looks like a great practical mod but can you give me any clue on how tight the coils are as I could not move the coils. Any clues other than your spin the outer cover. presently the bike is back together with original plugs. Looking to give it another go soon.
