Yes but the pitcher didn’t complain about the calls. The thing about ball calls by the umpire is that if pitcher/batter benefits they keep quiet and say nothing.
The ballparks need to start showing blown calls like those on the stadium cameras. Maybe that will get him run out of the ballpark for his "safety" and make them put a competent ump behind the plate.
I agree. The commentators are too reliant on the position where the catcher catches the ball. All three pitches were borderline at worst, moving right to left quite a lot.
They tried.. he filed a DISCRIMINATION lawsuit.. creid RACISM.. instead of the truth. INCOMPETENCE. And that useless (except to cost us $$$) Ump union...
@@whenthefoxtalks MLB needs to FIRE THAT UNION..... Umpires need to work for MLB..... so THEY control the quality of the job!! an "Ump Union" is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.
I wish whoever was in charge of putting the little circle of the ball in the square strike zone would show the circle where the ball crosses the front of the plate and not where it ends up in the catchers mit. You can plainly see that the circle pops up exactly where it's caught by the catcher, which is pretty far behind the plate. The 3 pitches called strikes have huge breaks to the left (batter's right) by the time they reach the plate. So much break that by the time they reach the mit, they could have easily been a couple inches outside the box graphic but nicked the edge of the plate when it crossed. I don't want to be the one to defend Angel, especially being a Phillies fan and some of his bad calls against the Phillies. But those first 2 strikes he called really could have been strikes, or at least a lot closer than they looked. The third one, probably not.
You're talking about a tenth of a ball diameter tops that it might break in that short of a distance. And those pitches were about 2 to 3 whole ball diameters outside.
That's only if it just started breaking at the plate. Watch the replay that shows the track of the ball. It started breaking only halfway to the plate and by the time it got to the plate, the ball was traveling pretty hard to the left. What they need to do is show on that ball track reply or the original box and circle where the ball crossed the plate, not where it ends up in the catchers glove. With the direction the ball is going when it crossed the plate, it could have easily gone another few inches or more to the left when it was caught.
@@DionysusAlS BTW, I agree that the last strike was definitely a ball. And the second strike was probably a ball but it was closer. I think the first strike was really a strike. The ball just has to barely nick the edge, or in this case, the front corner, of the plate as it goes by. And the first strike did that.
My theory is Angel Hernandez seeks attention with his absurd calls and knows MLB can’t do anything. He also keeps them on their heels by filing a lawsuit. Sociopathy, I think.
The batter stands there and and looks at three pitches in the same place.. and the announcers go nuts..oh what would they have done without that box there? Come on baseball fans..I thought consistency was everything? We're they off the plate? Yes. We're they pitchers pitches? Yes..did the pitcher hit his spot? Yes. Was angel consistent? After the first called strike you just knew where the next couple were going.
After the first strike is called, you need to go to the bench and get a boat oar so you have a chance to make contact.

Right after the announcer says "understanding of the strike zone" . . . Angel goes all Angel.
When the catcher has to physically move outside of the box in preparation for an outside pitch, you know it's a ball.
