They are the most powerful objects in the known universe and if we leave out black holes, Hypernovas and Magnetars have got to be some of the scariest things we know about just because they can weald devastating power over huge distances, in this video we look at these most extreme objects to try and make sense of them.

CD never ever disappoints... like a law of nature.
Oh yeah? You like CD's? You should try DVD's, they are amazing.
Actually he said that the power output of the sun is XXXXX W of power every second?
@@onjofilms Nice try and as next you'll promise me something out of the blue? Ray Charles would have seen that coming, but Stevie would have Wonders.
@@giovannimonchietto1863 Yes he did. And now, what's your question really?
This thread went off track quickly!
Thanks, just as I was feeling vaguely significant!
I know. Right!?!
Embrace your cosmic insignificance!
I feel like I would do just fine in the Total Perspective Vortex.
Astronomy is a humbling science :-)
I must say that I just can't get enough of Curios Droid. I learn something new from every episode and I am really impressed with the quality of the channel.
KeNost82 Me too. I’ve been watching one episode after another for hours
Magnetar sounds like an 80’s arcade game.
I played gravitar long time ago. Anyway was a funny game
Or a supervillain.
Sounds like a Pokémon to me .
P illo I kinda hated it.
Sounds like Pat Benetar. She's small and powerful.
I haven’t watched this yet but I know already it’s going to be awesome!
Did not disappoint.
As always.
Yes
Mad props to the shirt manufacturer for lining up the squares at the buttons.
they only line-up in vertical direction.. however the squares on the pockets do line-up with the rest of the shirt!
8:21 "Nice shirt". I love saying that, tho rarely feel moved to.
Thank a sweatshop in Asia
OCD?
@@theflanman420420, they’re ~$100 a shirt so hopefully they’re made local in the U.K. I’ve not been able to suss the country of manufacture looking through their web page.
"Which one is the brightest, A supernova at 148 million km or a Hydrogen bomb exploding 1 millimeter from your eye?
And the answer is the supernova"
Wow !!!
Yeah Wow!! But at least the supernova wouldn't take your eye out. :-)
@@David-yo5ws lmao he said the supernova was at the distance of the sun, that would roast our solar system
First heard this factoid on xkcd a few years back (“Lethal Neutrinos”). Mind blowing.
@@vulcanus9384 Exatly 😅
So, almost as bright as my phone's screen when I check the time in the middle of the night.
Gamma bursts can also occur when the fusion reaction becomes helium poisoned. Possibly some of these gamma bursts are forming stars that burn out as they are forming. The problem is overcome in fusion weapons by controlling the reaction speed with gallium alloy.
I find it sad that a lot of our discoveries come from the incessant need to kill each other :~( So sad.
@@pegasusted2504 The universe is metal.
Helium Road yup. Not Grunge. 😁
I never get enough of being told how we are insignificant in the scope of our place in this universe. I love being in awe of the magnificence we have had the opportunity to enjoy
The first sentence of this video reminds me that I'm still in awe sometimes that we can go outside in short sleeves, with only a razor thin layer of air between us and all that violence and destruction, and stand there in comfort, and not broil, freeze or explode.
After reading a certain book, the basic Three Body problem is some of the scariest stuff I can think about. Just the fact that something so simple could be so hard that it might even be impossible is very, very scary when you then think about the complexity of the entire universe.
10:02 “I felt a great disturbance in the Force”
"It's like a million voices cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced... I feel something terrible has happened "
@@sheevone4359 "...like a million civilizations..." is more like it I'm thinking
My brain just can't soak up enough of this. I need this information drip fed in to me 24/7
Magnetar, I think my microwave has one of those. That's why I can warm up a chicken breast in 60 seconds.
Whenever I need my mind blown, I watch a Curious Droid video.
After watching this video my brain hurts I have never had something so mind-boggling. Just trying to wrap your head around it makes it explode.
Too true. Once I have got my head back together and the Paracetamol kicks in, I shall watch it again and probably again after a few days. Awesome graphics too.
Congrats for reaching 800k subs.
Everyone: new video!
Me: new shirt!
the man has style!
I wish I could find something like that in cloth shops
I really wish tards would stop writing such lazy meme comments.
He said, I said, everybody, nobody... pikachu face..... STFU!!!
I love all your videos and constantly wait in anticipation for the next one! I could listen to you talk all day and never get bored! Thank you for the awesome content you provide for us!
Another stunning shirt there Paul....and the videos not bad either!!!!
Good to see you back! Brilliant video my friend. The things we’ve learned as a species... blows my mind.
Always watch a curious droid video as soon as it appears on CZcams, never disappoints. Another top notch, thoroughly interesting video, many thanks Paul!
How to turn a bad day into 13min of pleasure: curious droid, thank you sir 👍.
6 months late but hope you're having a great day now
Fantastic! The sizes, distances and energy amounts contained and released by these bodies are so hard to imagine. How beautiful our Universe is!
Again.... great content. Thank you Mr. Shillito and all his channel's Patreon supporters!
Wow, this video was so visually stunning! Love your videos.
You got the length & your decription consise & just right! Damn good vid!
The speed of that neutron star animation really unsettled me for some reason. Something that massive and violent spinning around quietly at such speeds is frightening.. but fascinating as hell too.
You've filled in some great missing gaps, like the magnetic force creating the jets. It's still a lot to get your head around, the whole complexity of it. It's ironic that we are so lucky not being zapped yet we are so content screwing up the world ourselves!!!!
love the way you present topics. Top notch.
Humanity: nukes are the most powerful thing we have created
Universe: that's cute
Did you know that you can weaponise a black hole, some big mirrors and EM waves?
You could theoretically create a supernova with that. It's pretty cool.
not even "thats cute" more like "yall are idiots"
Even if we REALLY tried, the destruction we can cause is no greater than that caused by a space rock crashing on Earth.
I really wish tards would stop writing such lazy meme comments.
He said, I said, everybody, nobody... pikachu face..... STFU!!!
@psygn0sis
I down vote every single one I see, send them down to the bowels of the comment section where no one will ever read it.
What about Quasars? I didn't think any other astronomical event was more powerful than a Quasar.
I'm no expert. But I believe the distinction comes from the term object. A quasar is not an object. It is essentially an entire galaxy that has a super nasty black hole core x2 going nuts sending out pulses of energy and matters from the poles. It's alot more than an object anyways. But the aforementioned objects are indeed singular objects. All be it crazy big.
the center of our milky way pal. quasar
What about blazars?
I absolutely love learning about Magnetars.
Incredible, thank you! It’s almost too much to begin to contemplate properly. Amazing stuff.
Always a good day when CD uploads a new Vid. Thank you!
Thanks Paul. Obviously a lot of research has gone into this fascinating video.
Love this astronomy content!
So many mind boggling facts and pieces of information that I couldn’t absorb it all. Good excuse to watch it again. Fascinating.
Thanks Paul....Y'all are the...Best, very easy to understand video's indeed...!
The most powerful objects in the universe? You forgot the mysterious but incomprehensibly strong attraction forces between drunk people and kebab shops. I’ve often been visited by the Friday night UFO. Unidentifiable Fried Object. The only alien object to probe you from the inside out the following day.
Lol. Nice one.
Dear Paul, I love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Another very interesting and informative video. Thank you Paul!
Excellent video with top notch graphics!
This is so damn good mate! Love the videos....
Thanks for the wonderful mini doco, this is a great elaboration on the Kurzgesagt from a few months ago.
THE ONE TIME YOU DO NOT MENTION THAT SHIRT, I HAVE TO HAVE THAT FOR MY HUSBAND! XD
CD....some mind boggling numbers in this one.....Awesome bit of research.....Thanks for this.
One of my favourite subjects, thanks Paul.
Always enjoy these, nice one!
Fantastic, thank you very much and please keep up the great work!
Best source for knowledge, thank you
Thankyouforthis
Veryinformative
Nothing both scares and fascinates me as much as trying to think about space and/or death. Great vid as always Paul!
Utterly intensely fascinating
I love science and educational channels like this one, I just subscribed better late than never they say.
Great video as ever
Thanks for sharing👍😀
Dude, this video made me said wtf too many times, mind bending numbers. Great vids keep it up.
CD is fantastic. I love these videos and please keep them coming
You make such excellent videos!
Great work...thanks.
Thanks for the vid. Always great.
I am blessed by another Curious Droid video 🙏
You are lucky.
love your videos paul!
Your channel should be required watching. It's so great. Your missed on a daily basis.
💪😎👍
Thank you CD i learnt alot
Dig the shirt you're rocking in this video haha..On top of your videos always being very well made & educational/interesting; you also always never disappoint when it comes to your wardrobe choices 😂
All in all, my hairy ape friends, we're not doing too badly. Another great video CD. Keep 'em coming.
I always enjoy watching your videos 👍
Curious Droid needs a shirt sponsor... This guy never disappoints with the shirts.
This is brilliant just brilliant. CD keep up the "brilliant" job 😁👍
Nice, Love the Astronomy series
5:12 MIND. BLOWN.
Holy crap -- they censored his shirt! 😁
Amazing work.
The shirt was too good to be exposed to the naked eye.
Finally, a new video
That was awesome!! The Violent Universe.
Why has CZcams been hiding this channel from me when it's literally all I ever watch. Wtf. Love the content ♥️
Curious Droid, the coolest chemises of youtube!
More videos like this please
Great video!
I'm genuinely offended that people can waste their time watching MAFS when there's content like this out there. Stunning video, my favourite channel!
The Death Star has nothing on these.
Imagine if starkiller base was just a hypernova
I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing.
Just brilliant
Great video
Realy like more on astronomy .. as allaways ! Good job , Thanks , and se you next time ;)
Wow I had to replay a few bits of that to try & take it in
Cool video👍 Your right.. we are pretty damn lucky to be here today.
4:45 minor nitpick: You said watts per second instead of just watts or joules per second. Watts per second would indicate a change im output power.
Gonun not to nitpick but you mean a change IN output power not a change IM output power?....... Lol.........
@@shaunlenton8865 You got me. Yep, I meant "in". I also have German and Swiss German selected as a language in my phone so the keyboard suggests German, Swiss German and English words. Sometimes a bit confusing...
Great video! Thanks.
A random Gamma Ray Burst didn't warrant immediate further investigation? Wow! Just... wow! :D
One of the best shirts yet!
Lately we have been pretty fortunate with our sun and CMEs , the ones going off the back side were massive … prayers for humanity
It's like the "Infinite Perspective Machine" of the Hitch-hiker's guide to the Galaxy. Much needed in this moment of global panic.
That pixel shirt is excellent!
*one of the great extinctions is suspected to be a GRB that hit millions of years ago*
Curious droid ?! Eh?! Blazers are hard to ignore !
I remember reading about Gamma Ray Bursts in a lexicon at the school library. I was 13 years old when I learned about one of the greatest potential threats to mankind. Had an impact.
5:15 Nice XKCD reference :D
That's one hell of a shirt you got there fella . . . great vid as well
Love the KLM SXM shot at 00:10
I feel small now
Dont

Can we have your liver then?
You created it how can we live in an Earth at the right place at the right time with the right amount of sun?
ed Dewes I use Adobe after effects
Nice shirt!
