  • When I saw the Mevo Plus camera from Livestream, I knew I had to get one. It essentially lets you direct what looks like a multi-camera live video production from an iPhone app using a single camera. Could it be as cool as it seems? Only one way to find out! This video is my unbiased review and verdict on the Mevo camera.

    You can plug a USB mic into the back of the Boost battery if you use that. Also you could use a different mic setup from your phone, such as a handheld or lav ... I'm trying to figure out which is better (USB mic into the Mevo or mic into the phone), but both are options.

    • @HeythereDavehere
      @HeythereDavehere  Před 5 lety

      Heather Vale yes, I used the mic plugged into iPhone option and it was intuitive and worked well... but I wasn’t really prepared and did not have a mixed “house feed” available for the multiple presenters who had microphones. I didn’t opt for the Boost battery but would certainly recommend it to people who use Mevo.

    So I really like the camera for the ability to get different angles. Can you set it to change angles automatically? Or do you have to manually make it change?

  • @acknd140

    I totaly agree with you to return the MEVO cause of the bad Audio-Support. Ofcourse there a ways to get external high quality sound in the Production but what does it mean? It means to use a lot of adapters an tricks that changes the easy to use MEVO to a laborious calble salad MEVO. For high quality Stereo Sound you need to connect a Mixer or external Soundinterface to MEVO or the iPhone. In both cases you will loose the ability to charge the MEVO / iPhone. That means that you can't use it very long... Yeah - you can use an adapter and an adapter for the adapter an than - maybee it will work - but! in this case, you have no easy to use MEVO anymore and this kind of setup looks like an untidy children's room. You lost your flexibility. 2nd reason to return the Device could be: If you want to use it together with an other Cam by using a broadcasting-Software like OBS or an other... there will be a big latency and one cam will not fit to another - and the sound too. Okay, by adding an Ethernet-Adapter to the Mevo and the iPhone, maybe it will work but there would be more cable salad... Together with the App, the MEVO is a perfect System - if you don't take look to the Sound options. The new MEVO start seems to be better, cause of the Line-In but I think the whole MEVO-Family is much overpriced. Cause the fundraising the development was paid by the Clients and it also shifts the risk to the Clients not to the company. MEVO was a good idea but it's not as perfect as the offer seems to be...

      If you can feed a mixed audio signal into either your phone or the adapter, the audio works well... just not the built in microphone! I like a lot about the Mevo, but the limitations are certainly something to consider and figure out if you can make it work for your situation.

    I can record aueio to another camera or a zoom recorder... It sounds like you could easily hook up a lav mic to the Mevo with a couple of adapters and stream from that. I'm not sure why you didn't try just a little harder and hang onto it. It seems like a really great camera and switching system. All you need to do is add audio.

      Interesting. I’ll have to check it out. App notes says you can add “up to 3 external audio sources” - I wonder if that means 1) mic app 2) built in mic and 3) mic input on switching app (I’m guessing so) or, better, if you can have 3 mic apps running for 3 people wearing lavs with a mic app in their pocket

      @@HeythereDavehere The last one (lav mics). Or just 3 phones (using the phone's mics) in 3 locations. We tested it last weekend during a city council debate we put on. Worked great. Dave I’m doing church live stream to Facebook live and I was wondering is the mevo
    pro able to set up in front of the altar capture a wide angle of the whole altar and then be able to zoom into the lectern either when they’re talking or presets sorry forgot to add that we connected audio from church mixer to plug into iPhone for sound

    • @heidisuszko353
      @heidisuszko353 Před 4 lety

      I think this would be a good solution... -if- your church has a wireless audio support for the hard-of-hearing; then you could connect one of the assisted hearing receivers to the MEVO's audio input, and have the church PA system audio come thru clear in the streaming and recording. The unit is small enough to be unobtrusive, mounted, say, off the front pews or on a small stand. with the booster battery, it would be totally wireless. It could grab the lector, the Cantor, the altar, all as pre-sets. And it could be controlled from an organ loft or a small alcove, out of sight. I'm suggesting one for our church services.

  • @radiozelaza
    @radiozelaza Před 5 lety

    You could also remove the reverb from the audio in post. Which is near to impossible but worth trying in software like Izotope RX

    • @HeythereDavehere
      @HeythereDavehere  Před 5 lety

      @Radio Zelaza, thanks for the comment and I agree that might have helped a little... I tried a few noise removal techniques as a test with not much improvement. Better mic placement (and more time to test during setup) would have been most effective. Keep in mind, this device is marketed as an all-in-one solution, but the built-in mic is simply inadequate unless you're in a perfectly quiet room and sitting very close to the device. Also, for my use case I was attempting a live stream. The way CZcams archives live streams you are unable to replace them with a remastered file after the live event. What you capture is what you're stuck with.

    • @HeythereDavehere
      @HeythereDavehere  Před 4 lety +1

      There is NO audio input on the camera itself at all. The optional battery accessory has a usb input that can be adapted to a 3.5mm audio input. The other way to do it is by tethering to an iPhone and using a TRRS 3.5mm mic, which is what I did.

    Really? A pro would have mics and a mixer at a minimum all of which can be piped through an iPad. If they're using house audio ask if you can pipe a feed into their system. Videographers have been doing this for years.

    • @HeythereDavehere
      @HeythereDavehere  Před 5 lety

      @EpizZeus, thanks for the comment. I do not think this device is intended for pro videographers. It is an all-in-one device that does a good job of mimicking what a pro might accomplish with much more equipment. In my specific case, the house audio was an office building's built-in ceiling speakers that did not have an output to plug into. The handheld mics on stage fed the ceiling speakers through a touch-panel mix interface and presumably a rack of gear hidden somewhere, but not accessible from the stage. I did point a Rode VideoMicPro+ at the stage just out of. frame and less than 10 feet from the people talkinng using the iPhone input to feed the Mevo. In hindsight, pointing the mic at a ceiling speaker -- and putting it on a light stand to get closer to the speaker. -- would have yielded better sound. However, I'd imagine that most people using the Mevo would not have the mic, cable, or stand to pull that off. My point is, the built-in mic is inadequate for an all-in-one solution without adding some more audio gear or being prepared to tap into a house feed.

    • @epiczeus945
      @epiczeus945 Před 5 lety

      I agree the built in mic for any camera is a poor choice. There isn't a camera alive with a decent onboard mic. We are currently thinking of investing in this for Live Streaming weddings, where we'd control the audio using off camera mics and a mixer. The downside would be if we were restricted to solely using their Vimeo service.

    • @HeythereDavehere
      @HeythereDavehere  Před 5 lety

      EpicZeus you can live stream to other services. I used it for a CZcams live stream. I think it would be great for a wedding live stream... I’d suggest keeping the camera very close to the bride & groom near where the officiant stands to be able to see them well in closeups and also cut to a wide shot showing the audience and have a good vantage point for bridesmaid entrance, etc. You basically need to pick a single spot where you can see everything. Let me know how it goes!

  • @mondotv4216
    @mondotv4216 Před 4 lety

    Well, audio on board is never going to sound as good as a lapel or shotgun positioned correctly. So if you're doing something like a live event, then you needed 3 lapels and a mixer or a split off the PA. I think blaming the streaming camera is pointless. It was never going to capture good sound in that situation and it's not designed to. That said I think the marketing material for this is over the top and misleading. Beautiful bokeh shots that this wide angle lens with tiny sensor is never going to produce. As an idiot proof live streaming camera not bad. Certainly as good or better than most webcams.
