This is very old Yugoslav style of an apartment as you have noticed. These days people are going more for minimalistic flats, newly designed furniture similar to Scandinavian style. We have left those large cabinets and storage closets from ceiling to floor behind us. But still great location, and very good value for the price. The most important thing is to feel like it’s your home and to have a pleasant vibe. Everything else, who cares. :-)

Welcome to Serbia and thank you for your videos and lot of beautiful words about Serbia and Serbian people. Some Serbian people are often not aware of the country they live and quality of life they have, they watch films and believe is much better to live somewhere in US or EU. But the way of life we are living, and the fun we have - it’s hard to find such a country anywhere. We maybe don’t have so much money as many Europeans (it is getting better though), but we know to live and enjoy our time, and most of people in Europe don’t have that opportunity. Belgrade is famous about it’s life in night and lot of places to have fantastic time. Also, every day Belgrade is becoming more and more beautiful, real European metropolis and together with Athens the most beautiful city in South-Eastern Europe.
About your apartment, it is really old style. Reminds me of when I was a child. Serbians are living now in much modern apartments, and I believe you can find literally thousands and thousands better apartments in Belgrade for the same money and approximately the same location. But if you are ok with it - that’s all what matters.

And to compare European way of life to American and Canadian is totally silly. Europe in general, no matter what country we are talking about, is way too cheaper than USA, not to mention Canada. Prices out there are ridiculously high. Been there, saw it, experienced it and moved back to my beloved Belgrade.

Idk what kind of water heater you got there older or newer one, old ones which are somehow still in use in lot of places as those things built back then can last a long time are very dangerous, however even newer one is not to play with as it's old building and instalation. That bathroom doesn't look it's been renovated much in last 30 years. That electrical has to have been redone long ago. I see no RCD (Americans call it a GFCI, you have it in the bathroom outlets, we have the whole place on one in the breaker panel) and we had an RCD in our apartment that was built in 1991. Maybe there are bootleg grounds on the outlets, in that case an RCD will not work right.

@@bradbeckett A TN system (means ground and neutral are connected at some point) is safer than TT where ground and neutral are 100% separate and a TT system requires a working GFCI to be safe, if the GFCI breaks it is about as good as having no ground at all. So probably those 2 buildings are more similar than you think, a GFCI will work fine as long as ground and neutral are never connected after it, it really doesn't matter about what is before it, so either there are bootleg grounds or maybe it's just because there is a common misconception among Serbian electricians that it won't work.

Yes of course it has an elevator unlike my Aunt's former place on State Street in Brooklyn, NY but the Brown Stone buildings there are even older then this one.

A da li si živeo u Kaliforniji?
Ja jesam i videla sam kuće mojih školskih drugova. Nisu svi bogati! Doktori, advokati, stomatolozi da. Zgrade zidane od cigle su banke, institucije, ali privatne kuće retko.

People who say this is overpriced clearly have no idea about the rent situation in belgrade and I’d bet they’re not even from around here... don’t listen to them, you’ve got yourself a real steal! Lucky! And the comments saying the view looks like Lebanon... probably never had a chance to travel the world and actually live in largely populated cities and imagine the world actually looks like a postcard. Have fun in Belgrade!
