      Indeed. Much of how they react is very enflated; as though they have much more knowledge than they do. Seeing that helicopter beamed and destroyed was really obvious as they lingered on it for a couple seconds before Godzilla hits it. I'm only to the part where they think it happened off screen and had to come down to find out if anyone else has noticed all the ridiculousness.
      One thing I am thinking is that we see the beam destroy most of the buildings around him, but how are there enough left over to topple onto him? I've seen this movie so many times that I have even noticed something hardly anyone discusses: the disappearance of Dr. Goro Maki. So, I can't believe I am in the dark about the buildings still being there.

    My FAVORITE version of Godzilla, Shin is so underrated.
    Something to keep in mind is, compared to the more well known Godzilla's, is that Shin is just an animal. He has no sadistic tendencies, he isn't humanized.
    He simply came to exist in a world that doesn't want him. Notice how he NEVER attacked anyone until he was attacked first. He behaves in self defense, and during the iconic breath beam scene, the music that plays actually describes his suffering.
    He's probably the most sympathetic, tragic Godzilla that exists.

    Shin could be read in three ways: 新 , meaning 'new', 真, meaning 'true', and 神, meaning god.

  • @mrdavman13
    @mrdavman13 Před 25 dny +8

    Because Godzilla is a reactor basically, what they did was force an organic version of a SCRAM. Google says:
    A SCRAM, or scram, is a rapid emergency shutdown of a nuclear reactor that ends the fission reaction and puts the reactor in a safe condition. It can be performed manually by the reactor operator or automatically by instruments that sense when a parameter is outside its normal range. For example, if the water temperature gets too high, an instrument can send a scram signal that causes control blades to drop by gravity, shutting down the reactor in less than a second. If that fails, boric acid can be injected into the reactor.
    That is why it worked so well

    "The Prime Minister & the cabinet died off screen"
    They died *on screen* when Godzilla blew up their chopper, but the three of you didn't pay attention, evidently.
    "Yaguchi had no stakes coz he had no lover or kids"
    This movie is an ensemble movie that emphasizes Japanese government. The protagonist/MC is not Yaguchi alone, but the entire Godzilla taskforce. The stake is not only one or two loved ones but their _entire_ nation's existence as well as all their families out there. This movie is above triggering audience with child characters. The stake is the entire world if Godzilla is not stopped.
    "Too much humans & politics"
    That's the point of the movie. It's a jab & satire towards Japanese government's slow response during the Tohoku earthquake by representing it with Godzilla.
    "The plan went too well"
    Well, that's what a smart & well-thought-out plan supposed to do. Not to mention that the plan was supported by multiple other poweful nations like USA, Germany & France. So they have enough resources to execute it well.
    "What does the coagulant do? It's not clear."
    It's very clear that they wanted to kill Godzilla, and they hoped that the coagulant can do it. But if the coagulant can only freeze Godzilla into suspended animation, at least they will have time to think what to do next. Don't forget that they were dealing with unknown variables before executing their mission. So there was no certainty or guarantee, just like in Minus One.
    "It's confusing"
    Well, the terrible subtitle that you have during the first half of the movie certainly didn't help.

      @@Gabriel-G. I knew that was going to happen. A lot of people make fun of it's 2nd form, but usually they are very disturbed once they actually take a second more to think about it. I don't think that thinking is these three's strong suit. To be fair, I missed the Godzilla cell crawling up Noriko's neck at the end of Minus One, but I think that's because I was preoccupied with their embrace that I totally missed it.
      I do agree that Minus One did focus a lot on the action. The characters in the movie are very good, however, so I have given it props for that. Some of the CGI Godzilla isn't that great. I mean, it's sometimes not that great in Shin, but I prefer Shin due to its many layers.

      @LanceLust1980HugeTheWarningFan Před 4 dny +1

      Okay, now I am done watching their reaction. I can't say that I blame them for not liking it. It's my favorite Godzilla movie of all-time. But not everyone is going to understand it. And not everyone is "Godzilla" enough to watch it again if if indeed does confuse some. I don't even remember my reaction to this movie in the theater. I did think that when we first see him, he was very strange looking. But I am someone who gives a movie time. Lots of people are asking so many questions before they are answered, and sometimes they talk so much they miss key scenes. Like when they missed that the PM was killed in the helicopter. But when someone isn't that invested in the first part of the movie, the rest might not compute, either.
      I am rather dismayed that they said they wouldn't ever watch it again. With many great movies, you don't always understand what's going on the first time around. Fact is, sometimes I miss something until the 30th time around. Not going to get into that, though.

  • @geraldthegoose1685
    @geraldthegoose1685 Před 26 dny +10

    Shin godzilla directed by shinji higuchi (heisei gamera and ultraman) and Hideaki Anno (evangelion) with music by Shiro Sagisu (evangelion, berserk and bleach) is not only one of my favorite godzilla movies but also like top 20 favorite movies of all time and has rightfully won best picture in japan
    The movie is based of the 2011 tsunami and the fukushima nuclear plant disaster which was made worse by the japanese government sluggish response which is a parrell to this movie and how bureaucracy and following the red tape can prevent immediate action
    When Higuchi was asked about the movie he promised to deliver the "greatest worst nightmare" early concept art for movie was more lovecraftian in nature with godzilla having another godzilla grow out of him and its because of this that people believe he would continue to evolve and become the universe which is not canon and was probably made by goji center or another godzillatuber which some people have just chosen to believe.
    This was the first japanese godzilla to be depicted primarily through cgi with higuchi saying modern audiences would find suitmation boring. There was behind rhe scenes footage that showes that animatronic was made but for some reason didn't make the cut however they still payed tribute to the old suitmation way by having motion capture. It is because of cgi that shins tail is so long and has more movement because now it didnt have to be operated with wires like in the past. The only prop used in the movie was the final shot of the tail which was sculpted.
    The marketing for this movie was also very closed lip with them only showing the 4th form and holding back footage of the atomic breath with toy sellers calling his second and third form "Kaiju A" and "Kaiju B"
    There was deleted scenes which showed that after the stealth bomber attack it blasted off a chunck of dorsal spike which showed it dropping blood spatters that contained eyes and fangs and thats how yaguchi team learned that this was how shin planned to reproduce. There was another scene which was just a cgi rendering with shins 3rd form that showed him vomiting boiling blood which didnt make the cut either.
    Now for some light trivia: The nickname for ShinGoji's second form, "Kamata-kun", comes from Kamata , the name of the neighborhood where he first came ashore, while the nickname for his third form, "Shinagawa-kun", comes from Shinagawa, the neighborhood where Godzilla's second form evolved into his third form. In the same manner, the nickname for ShinGoji's fourth form, "Kamakura-san", comes from Kamakura, the city where Godzilla first made landfall in this form. There is a theory that the reason shin godzilla goes to tokyo is because when Goro Maki, the person who researched shin, commited suicide and was somehow able to merge with shin through evolution and that the reason he goes to tokyo is because his wife died by radiation sickness and thats why shin goes there. For the atomic breath scene, the song the plays in the background "who will know" is supposed to tell what shin is thinking with the female choir being his side wondering that shin didnt want this and that he is a victim too while the male choir is him fighting back and telling him he needs to live.

    Dear Contributors.
    I am commenting from Japan.
    Please forgive my awkward translation.
    First of all, I am very happy to be able to talk about the Godzilla franchise with you across oceans and borders. Thank you very much.
    I even watched the scene where the contributors discussed their overall impressions of "Shin Godzilla". It was very interesting. I found it very interesting because "Shin Godzilla" is by far the highest scoring film in Japan as a whole, and in terms of box office revenue in Japan, Shin Godzilla is ahead of "Godzilla-1.0" by a wide margin.
    And "Godzilla-1.0" has been running for more than half a year since its premiere in Japan, but it has yet to reach "Shin Godzilla"'s highest grossing film to date.
    I love both "Godzilla-1.0" and "Shin Godzilla" very much (-1.0 score 110/100 Shin score 110/100), but again, my acquaintances also consider "Godzilla-1.0" to be a "70/100 score" film. However, in other countries, the difference between "Shin Godzilla"'s score and "Godzilla-1.0"'s rating is reversed.
    Perhaps the reason for this reversal is due to whether or not you sympathize with "Shin Godzilla"'s "political scenes" and whether or not you can accept the "unconventional design of Shin Godzilla" as a "reinvention of the wheel".
    Thank you for reading my long comment.
    P.S.
    Both "Godzilla-1.0" and "Shin Godzilla" were inspired by the situation when "Godzilla 1954" was first released.
    If you, the contributor, are interested, I would be happy if you all could watch the 1954 original Godzilla as well.
    Japan time 2024/06/06 22:53
    Thank you!

    @JulioShinjiBernal Před 17 dny

    Shin gojira is by far, one of the most impressive gojiras ever.
    -Firstable, Gojira has multiple forms.
    The first one was in the lagoon, when the rescue team were in the Goro Maki's yacht.
    The second one, when it can slide off the water, we can hear as soundtrack "persecution of the masses"
    The third one, when it can stand up and it has almost its classic form
    The fourth one, when suddenly appears in the bay and has all its black/red skin and all the scars, it has grown the double.
    The fifth form, we don't know if it could happen, but is when in last scene we see its tail and has some humanoid forms going out from it. One theory says that Goro Maki, its creator, gave his own DNA, sacrificing himself to give Gojira for being able to create this mini gojira-humans. They could colonize all the world, and Gojira will still evolving as the scientist crew said in the movie, probably in the next forms, Gojira could fly, maybe could have two heads or evolving to become a truly God.
    That's the reason the japanese-american lady say "a truly god incarnate"
    - But Gojira is not evil as we see. When you hear the lyrics of Who Will Know from Shiro Sagisu, you can understand all the Gojira's feelings. It suffers in each evolution, and when the bombs falled and hurted it, that scream was not for anger, it was for pain. You'll see Gojira with another eyes with that song
    - It was made by Hideaki Anno. The creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Shiro Sagisu made its OST as the evangelion saga.

    Godzilla in this movie was actually going to have a “final form”, it technically not final since he could actually continue to evolve infinitely. But this form was going to be one of an almost feminine humanoid looking Godly being, there are some freaky pieces of concept are that you should definitely look up.
    It didn’t happen because TOHO didn’t allow it. Still a great movie, even if some of it might not land with people due to it having to do with problems Japan itself faced years ago

    This Godzilla was made entirely in CGI, however it was created as if it were a bottarga, which is why it has such a strange and apparently involuntary appearance and movements.
    This Godzilla doesn't know what's happening to him, he's not a monster, just a creature that wants to survive but at the same time wants to stop existing.
    Without a doubt one of the best versions of Godzilla.
    Extra fact that I forgot, Godzilla was nowhere near his next evolution, what you see in the tail was the evolution to end humanity.

    The film was designed to be a satire of the govts. response to the Fukajima nuclear accident.
    When you hear the Neon Genesis Evangelion music note that the rights to the music was easy to get since both projects had the same director.
    You guy have had the bad luck of finding a version with the worst subtitles I've seen on this movie.
    It's not bad enough to force a rewatch but I'm sure it didn't help figuring out what was going on.
    25:02
    FOOLS! This is not even my final form!
    The first form was the big worm/tentacle thing coming out of ocean near the flooded tunnel.
    The fifth form is what you see coming out of the tail at the end of the movie.
    This movie was very successful. It set box office records in Japan.
    That was supposed to set up a series of movies but it was cancelled when the monsterverse Godzilla became a bigger success.

    I will say that this version is a great interpretation of the iconic King Of The Monsters, but that split lower jaw during the first atomic breath scene was honestly super creepy to me. It was like Godzilla had a love child with the Predator and a Graboid from the movie Tremors. I recommend watching the original Japanese Godzilla movies from 1954 to early 2002 to get a better sense of what makes Godzilla iconic, despite the English dubbing being supremely cheesy and the action in the 60s and 70s movies being corny as hell.
