weird thing is that Metallica wanted to pay tribute to Lizzy by recording a song of them - and they chose the one song Lizzy absolutely hated. Whiskey started with fooling around during rehearsals and neither Phil, Eric or Brian wanted to record it. Since it became a hit song they were forced to play it on various shows in Europe - ending up being seen upon as a "folk-song-band", which eventually lead to Erics break down and breaking up at New Years Eve 73-74. Too bad, in my opinion. Their album Vagabonds of the western world was really something!
Even Queen insisted that Vagabonds should be played when they were on photo session for an album - and later lead to Lizzy supporting Queen in the US on the "Queen Lizzy Tour" 1977.

It is amazing to me how many angry people are on this thread. At least Eric Bell was in a famous, influential band. I dont think anyone of the rude, mind readers are, were or will ever be.

The only proof is Metallica rocks this song is wrong the crowd going nuts whenever played live.
The dude didn’t know anything about Metallica yet accepted their invitation lmao. Seems he needed to be on stage so people would know him.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to believe he didn't know who they are. And he's trying to make them look like arrogant assholes, while lying to look superior to them and truly being the arrogant asshole. Come on dude. He don't listen to that kind of music? Thin Lizzy wasn't far off from Metallica in some ways. Dude is salty about something for sure

You had no idea who they were so you went and played with them anyway? Yea sure. Totally believable. Metallica didn't cover Whiskey In The Jar, they just did it correctly.

@@joshhowe7795He never asked for anything and they never promised anything. They flew him to and from the Show on a private jet. His payment was them covering a Thin Lizzy song. The pay day from that had to be nice.

Complete bullshite. Everything this dude said about them is a lie. "They expected me to be impressed." Sure dude...
This was your last 15 minutes guy, I hope thats how you really wanted to spend it, because no one actually knows who you are, and we'll never hear anything about you again.

That is not true. Especially James Hetfield and the forming bassist Cliff Burton were huge fans of Thin Lizzy. James has chosen the song "Honesty i no excuse" by Thin Lizzy (with Eric Bell on guitar) as his all time favourite song.
So the bullshite comes flying back right at you, doesn't it?

Downy is still about. At that stage they could have also gotten Moore, Sykes, Robbo, and Gorham

Eric Bell was the guitarist of Thin Lizzy at the time of its inception, and coincidentally, it's the song that drove him mad, and the song that got him to quit or get fired.
