CZcams is king & queen of video. There’s educational videos, there’s news, there’s sports, there’s full movies & tv shows (both legal & pirated), there’s music, there’s lyrics, there’s fanfics, there’s memes, opinions, editorials, video essays, pretend video friends, etc.
There’s no competition.
Not that it's needed but it's seems the only form of media they are missing is pornography
Discoverability is difficult on CZcams. Tiktok is more interactive with duets and stitches.
CZcams is in that sweet spot that it can sustain with whatever it has in the long form .... But any new insight can easily play into the current form seamlessly

Regarding 5:05 If the last thing you watched on the CZcams app was a Short (and then you closed the app), the next time you open the CZcams app, it autoplays Shorts (just like TikTok). It's been like that for a long time now.

The reason why TikTok became wildly popular is because anyone could make a TikTok and get famous. CZcams shorts right now only seems to push content from creators, tbh dont think shorts will ever be more used than tiktok
I watched CZcams for years before TikTok ever existed. Why would I ditch it now when Shorts is exactly the same?
Because most tik tokers use tik tok they don't use CZcams

Tiktok is completely different
I tried TikTok. As of now Tiktok recommends a more related video than Shorts which will get you watching nonstop. Maybe it's just that a lot of people use Tiktok more than Shorts. What I don't like about Tiktok is that your liked videos will be on your favorites. I want a separate button to save a video.
TikTok algorithm is much much better. When I watch shorts on youtube I get tons of repeated videos and it doesn't throw me any curveballs and new content to discover, on TikTok I'm constantly discovering new stuff

Analysis paralysis has always existed. It's hard wired into our brain. You can make a more discerning decision with 3 choices than with 100. Has nothing to do with social media. Absolutely nothing.

The issue with CZcams shorts is the copyright music problem. TikTok is the wild west, so stuff like that doesn't matter, and it's more accessible for new content creators.

Yeah, shorts are going to do absolute wonders for podcasts, interviews, and any comedy specials.

only way reels or shorts will become more prominently used and consumed, is for CZcams to highlight the form factor more aggressively, even in the face of other services like CZcams Music etc. Its (user interface) positioning / weak integration becomes even less impactful when compared to how concentrated the experience is on Tik Tok

my phone automatically goes to shorts. and its pretty nice. it does lead to you looking up longer format to see the context. its lead to me checking out a few comedians and podcast. the issue with shorts is it works really good with shock, and quick jokes. but its not able to relay quality information.
and they definitely feed fake views. its literally one of the main points of brigading. people do it all the time. akaash has the best input though "your saying suppose to a lot".

difference between TikTok and YT Shorts in my personal experience is that the majority of Shorts I come across and enjoy are clips of longer videos where TikTok is more original content.
They definitely open with shorts sometimes and I'm into the change of pace. You can't just back out and go to regular CZcams
MKBHD also predicted that IGTV will become a big competitor for CZcams.

Amazing talk! Personally I think CZcams will really win against Tik Tok once the ad monetization features come out next year. I have been wanting to see competition in this market for quite some time these days.

Doubt that. I love CZcams for long form videos but actively skip the shorts. The shorts that end up on CZcams, Facebook, and Instagram, are typically the worst of the worst on TikTok. TikTok has its place and its dedicated followers, same with the others. Trying to homogenize everything never works.
I found CZcams about 10 years ago, created my account not long after. It quickly became a major source of content for me and that has not changed.
I’m not sure how the monetizing works on either platform, but I suspect the one that can generate more money for their creators will win.
It's CZcams. They somehow pay more for the creators to a point many people keep it as their only source of revenue and even hire people to get the job done. Other platforms are just social media at best.
Kill Tony does 60 seconds and it works. Its great for introducing new folks content or as a teaser. For established comedians it may not be enough, but for newbies its perfect.
The youtube app does sometimes open directly to shorts now!

The thing for me is that I rarely use CZcams on my phone. Just my desktop. So its weird to see shorts on a desktop relative to tik tok which most people use on the phone

youtube shorts algorithm is trash as it currently stands. the dislike button and don't recommend this channel option are not functional at this time so you get the same shorts you don't want to see thrown at you over and over again.
If they fix this I will use it over tik tok
Unless CZcams creates a standalone shorts app. TikTok will eat CZcams for lunch in the vertical video space.

In indonesia. TikTok allows you to monetize by livestream gifts. And affiliate links and now TikTok also behave like e-commerce. You can buy stuff from TikTok directly

This sounds similar to when people were sure google+ was going to dominate Facebook.
It’s going to be very hard for people to switch platforms when the user interface for TikTok is so simple and the reach it provides is more valuable than the rev share.
Very different. Tik tok doesn’t have that moat. CZcams and/or FB can quickly take their market share.

Only scenario I see TikTok losing to CZcams is they get banned in the west.
If you close the app when watching a short, the next time you open the app it’s playing a new short, not the menu they mentioned here.
5:15 oh youtube is already doing that for me at least, when i am on mobile and not connected to wifi then as soon as I open the app, it opens short. When I'm on wifi then it is the normal video stuff. Which is great.

CZcams shorts will NOT destroy TikTok until they fix the half-assed way they implemented it. On Mobile you can't scroll through the time, you just have to watch every single short in full again if there was a specific thing you wanted to see, or if you missed a detail you thought you cared about you'd have to get back there again, no volume control whatsoever just mute or unmute, and for some weird reason on PC shorts volume is generally lower than videos volume. All they did was slap together a format and hoped it works and since have made 0 efforts to improve the experience, oh- besides monetizing it of course.
What I’ve noticed with CZcams videos vs shorts is that sometimes a video can be 10 minutes long and have the same amount of information as a 30 second short
You can make youtube redirrect all shorts to normal youtube with browser extensions.
I don't really watch youtube on my phone because of how long the videos are and the non-stop ads. I prefer watching on my computer. I like tiktok because the ads are skippable and the algorithm is better.

yeah but tik tok does all your editing for you and has sooo many creative tools to use for free. I only have tik tok for the ability to make cool animated collages and the digital makeup and special effects like snap chat-only reason I have snapshot. Instagram and CZcams are seriously bombing in that department. and it's really hard to clip stuff.
Two of my favorite people in the same room! When CZcams recommended this I almost fell off the couch. Going to watch them all.
P.S. Notice how careful MKBHD was answering controversial questions about China 😂. You could see him processing in his mind how to reply. Tons of the products on his channel are from Chinese companies. Mostly phones.

A Shorts app from YT as it only shows shorts would be an interesting idea but also could be to many apps, we already have studio, YT itself, and music..but really what's a 4th saying TikTok is kind of a 4th already

What makes tiktok better is you get to see normal people with far less curated, monetized, and commercialized content. people being able to socialize about real life. That was the whole point of social media in the first place.
CZcams shorts are full of financial gurus, fake courses, interviews of celebrities, hustle culture.
If that’s what you’re seeing, then that’s what you fed the algorithm.

My tiktok feeds really bad 😂and I find it cringy. I think you have to curate feeds I honestly haven't found creators I like on tiktok so it keeps me off it.

My CZcams Shorts already open as soon as I open CZcams. It has for a while now, and its pretty annoying.
Its wild because it works tho. Id open CZcams to watch how to, idk, fold a fitted sheet or something. But being shorts open first, Ik the video is short, id watch it, then just start scrolling through the shorts feed. Then after about 10 minutes of watching shorts, im like, "wait... Wtf was I here for in the first place?"

YT mobile app IS actually opening on Shorts. Half the time I open the app it starts on shorts. Other half is home screen. Maybe they're testing it.

Nah I think TikTok is where new creators are going to be created. CZcams is where new creators would scale and make the money.
TikTok is way friendlier to new creators. It reminds me of what CZcams used to be like. Now on CZcams it's usually just the rich getting richer.
Shorts, still buggy. Often just freezes before playback. I don't use tik tok, but shorts need to work properly, it's 2022.
It seems like Shorts is like mini-advertising for long-form videos! Also, If you LEAVE the app while in Shorts mode, it will auto-open Shorts again next time you open CZcams! Same with long-form content. Great podcast yall!

TikTok algorithms can be easily curated to deliver your interests rather quickly. I was learning a lot and discovered a lot of great recipes. It was so addicting that I had to quit - privacy concerns too. CZcams shorts seem very narrow in what they present to me. For some reason, I get foreign videos in my CZcams feed regularly. CZcams's algorithm is not as polished. Maybe it because what Marques said, TikTok will willing to show you things to see if they hook. I don't feel addicted to Shorts like I did with TikTok.
TikTok's algorithm is designed to show you things that *you* want to see. CZcams's algorithm is designed to pigeonhole you into proven marketable video funnels. It's why CZcams can *not* compete with TikTok head to head.

Social Media addiction is something to be avoided for obvious reasons. An algorithm that helps you control your own consumption is much better
The main reason I don't use Shorts is because I don't have a lot of friends who have CZcams accounts, however, all of my friends and family are on TikTok. So, I can share and receive TikToks with/from my people. That level of interaction is missing for me on Shorts. And the name. The name is so bad. LOL
If you're an American you should be using CZcams shorts and not Chinese tiktok. The only thing with CZcams shorts is the user interface isn't great and you can't fast forward or rewind which is absolutely infuriating
to me Short really look like something to make a "career" while tiktok is more "fun" kinda vine, even if you're a no name you can go viral, not the same with short
