Jukka, the giant, despite the unbearable insomnia, carried live shows on his outstanding charisma and real best showmanship... we miss you on stage BigBeardedPirateCaptain, but i feel good knowing you are healthy and not tortured by that horrible condition anymore. i know something about it myself, can't understand how you managed to go on for so long, and played so inspiring... although i wanted for you to return to band, i feel better knowing you're retired and healthy, than my selfish wish for you to play
Guy always played like it is his last day on earth, giving away all energy and love for music, reliving all the songs and every emotion of song, transformed into every beat of every note... this is the drumming, when you realy can't move your eyes from him all the way, while there are also talented people on stage :))
Inspiration for many young men and women, this is the greatest achievement a musician can do...

When Jukka played he played with his entire body, he became the drums!
He always reminded me of "Animal" from the Muppets. Jukka was one of the most charismatic "showman" drummers I've seen!

Insomnia is a rotten condition. You don't realize how valuable sleep is until you can't do it, and suddenly everything becomes so much more difficult. Hope Jukka is doing better now. We still miss him.

He is. And he's still with the band, but in the management team instead.

Tuomas said that Jukka is doing very well, not suffering from insomnia anymore, but he can't return to performing because he fears that it will return, and he is probably right about it

I miss Jukka. Kai is an extremely technical and talented drummer, but Jukka had such an unique stage presence.
Jukka Nevalainen is the guy who inspired me to play drums. He's my hero. There will never be another Jukka. He helped me to overcome a lot of depression and is the reason Nightwish is my favorite band. I don't think I was ever able to tell him "Thank You", and I would do almost anything to have the ability to thank him in person. His kindness and motivation and words to me, telling me to "never stop" are one of the only reasons I'm still here with us. Maybe one day I'll get to tell him my story. But until then, THANK YOU JUKKA NEVALAINEN

This is one of the Nightwish songs that has the best intro. Love how it builds from start to finish. The pyrotechnic's firing off, perfectly in sync with the background choir, not to mention Floor totally killing it on vocals.Everything just fits together!

Me too. When I remember how much I begged my parents to buy me drums. I was so obsessed with Jukka at that time I even copied what his wearing. And I wear beard like his to this day.
Picking up the drums and throwing them at the drumsticks is certainly an unconventional way to play them. That would take a lot of skill. Let me know how that works out when your trying your first drum solo haha. :)

Jukka is a bad ass with a lot of charisma, miss his performances with the band. But not to deny Kai is doing an outstanding job.

I could watch him play all day, every day. As a drummer myself, I know what kind of energy it takes to play like that. Jukka is a beast and so incredibly entertaining to watch.
it's not for everyone to have two drummers of this enormous caliber and talent in one band.
This was the song that introduced me into nightwish. And the metal music by a further scope. My mother had just married another man and I was upset. Before I had access to 80's rock at best, but mostly classical music. Which wasn't bad! I still love classical music, but a 13 year old experiencing a divoce needs someting more powerful. And it all started with this song.
It quickly went so Slipknot and stuff, angry teenager and so on, but Nightwish is still one of my favourites. Toumas Holopainen, you are a true composer. Not a songwriter, not a musician. A composer. Thank you for being there for so much of my life.

Loved our magnificent Pirate King of the Kit. As a sufferer of insomnia myself, I can sympathize with it's brutal effects. Glad he is doing better and is still involved. Every day Jukka is still an inspiration. One of my favorite drummers EVER and always in my heart.

"Jukka's last show", that hits hard. Insomnia is a realy hard condition. To bad such a great drummer can't get back on stage. But I also want to mention Jukka's dedication with the band, when he felt he couldn't give that was required for being Nightwish' drummer, he found exellent replacement.
