They're all such sweethearts. Last time I was at Natalie and Donnell's house they were going through the rounds teaching the kids- every kid has a half hour lesson each on dancing and fiddling every day. Adorable :)
Love Leahy and Natalie as well. Have seen them in concerts over the past few years. Leahy at CalTech in Feb. And to believe that the first time I saw Leahy was on PBS. Natalie just before that.
I had the honour of growing up near the Leahy family. I grew up in Young's Point and went to school in Lakefield. I know where they live exactly and have seen them in the Kinmount fair. :)
Funny how such a relentless assault can win over even the most skeptical. Many young rockers, determined to be resistant, when exposed to one live performance become admirers. Traditionalists, who resent the New Age trappings & modern insrumental renderings, begrudgingly smile. Artists like Leahy provide a gateway for new fans to experience through curiousity, other artists & forms of traditional music. The Chieftans have always understood this,& their work in promoting & preserving is unmatched.
Ethnically Leahy are Scottish and Irish, their nationality is Canadian. They play a Canadian version of their heritage music, from Scotland and Ireland. They are joined by the Chieftains, who are Irish both in their ethnicity and nationality.
Kari Macleod the tunes in order are "The Curlew" by Josephine Keegan, "Jenny's Chickens," then a third tune, then the Glasgow reel. Not sure the third name.
You know, when you compare Donnell Leahy to the "dueling violins" videos on CZcams, there is absolutely no comparison. He is so much better he is in a different class musically. Not that they are so bad, it's just that he is that good!
I’ve heard him called the best in the world, and while I’m certain Charlie Daniels would contest that, it would be great fun indeed to hear the two of them battle over a golden fiddle to settle the issue…
I'm serious, look at 1:45 in the video. it's just the piano that's playing, but everyone's still jammin away. not accusing the band of anything, I just think that there's something up with the video, a time delay perhaps?
I hate to make this comparison, but just watch some mindless rapper talk an inane song with a beat and then watch this. These guys have more talent in their hangnail then most popular artists do.
It's true, you can't listen to their music and NOT smile. The joy on their faces...you can tell they have so much fun doing this. :D

Brutal speed fiddler! Is awesome and it's great to see the Chieftains too.
Music for me , love it!!!! Music for the soul .

Dude I Remember watching this on PBS or something ages ago. Brings back hella memories!
Saw Leahy this sunmmer in Lowell, MA ...totally blown away...received a great reception and review....Hope they come again
My father used to do a silly step dance. Growing up with Don, we danced alot. Makes me tear up everytime
They are so great!
This video is bursting with energy and downright joy.
The Leahy family makes this style of music even better
Awesome family of artists, the chemistry between them is just... wow ! The speed at which the main violonist play is a great feat to accomplish...
Just too, too AMAZING. Have seen them three times and they are the BEST!!!
These guys are just wonderful. They seem to have so much joy in making the music, it's a pleasure to listen to.
Nice! video and music. amazing!
Fantastic. Never get tired of this song. As the spectator says: "Oh my God". That sums it all up.
That’s not a spectator, that’s Paddy Maloney of The Chieftains.
Who on earth gives this less than 5 stars. Maybe the video quality but that's it... Bravo! I wish I could play like that.
Gosh, I love Leahy and just found my faibel for the Chieftains!!! This is great stuff!!!
Just simpsly absolutely the BEST!!!

This has long been one of my favorite bands. Thank you for uploading it.
Yes, the song is actually called "B Minor" :) It's on their first (self titled) album. Worth every penny & more. We're seeing them tomorrow night!
Totally Classic!
That's the key of the tune, because he does multiples, and one of them is Tam Lin which is definitely ot in B-minor, it's either D-minor or A-minor.

Any time you can leave the Cheiftain's setting there with a look of WTF just happened, you are indeed great.

Leahy family / group is Canadian, from Lakefield, Ontario. The Chieftains are irish.
They aren't playing till they bust a few strings. lol!!
GREAT!!!!
super...super...super!!!
The only thing that's bad in this video clip is that the sound is slightly delayed. Everything else: PERFECT!! ^^
By the way the first part is jenny's Chickens and then two variations of Tam Lin. And believe me it is difficult to play but sounds fantastic!!!
