- Join me today for a cute dollhouse speedbuild, inspired by my own nostalgia, the Barbie movie, and several requests from some kind subscribers! I had a lot of fun recreating a Barbie dreamhouse, but putting my own unique spin on it. I hope you enjoy the build as well as the movie portion where we meet the dolls who live here and see what they get up to on a regular day.

Download the lot. I use almost all cluedo texture defaults, so the house in your game might look different if you don't use them. If you don't use niol's roof shader mod your roof will look darker. I included a sub-folder with a couple furniture recolors I used that are hard to find, all credit for them goes to aliksims on tumblr!

Omg this was so campy, Maxis-matchy, nostalgic, creative & genius! You managed to perfectly capture what it was like to grow up playing (in my case obsessed lmao) with Barbies and I think that obsession totally transfered into adulthood and the love we have for Sims. All the details, the random stickers and figurines, the bald Barbie, the plastic vibes, it reminded me of my doll house that was nowhere near as big as this was one, but it’s a symbol of my childhood and something to treasure forever.
And also, you have totally opened my eyes to all the neon lights and how atmospheric and gorgeous the are and I have to find a way to start using them more! ^^

The invisible walls do indeed come in handy for themed challenges! I use them to weather-proof decorative shack/tent pieces so Sims can go sleep inside and not freeze to death in winter.
so smart!! I have seen deco tents and stuff before but somehow never realized the invisible walls is perfect way to make them useable!

My god, it's so beautiful! I love your speed builds and the way you create a story for each of them! This one reminded me a little of the Barbie horse adventures game I used to play when I was a kid. And the Sims 1 soundtrack, it was so nostalgic!🥹🥹

This was epic ⭐ You really managed to capture the dollhouse atmosphere perfectly. It was similar to how some people manage to capture the "ts1 feeling" in ts2 by using the same builds, similar furniture and a very exact camera angle. It really felt like looking into a real dollhouse - which is very meta btw seeing as sims has often been referred to as a virtual dollhouse. You also succesfully made it so you: perfectly put together to the smallest detail, with an undertone of horror. ❤ This was lovely

I too was a big fan of the doll house murders and various other paperbacks about girls and their haunted dolls, girls who lived in haunted houses, girls who time traveled, dolls that caused girls to time travel, and various other similar permutations.
Not so doll-focused, but did you ever read Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix? this was one of my faves in this genre.
omg, running out of time is like one of my favorite books I remember from my childhood! I was obsessed, that book was so good! and then that M. Night Shyamalan movie The Village came out where he copied the plot of that book! I love that you remember the dollhouse murders too, lol yes so many haunted girl and haunted doll books. Cute build! I always was begging my parents for a Barbie dollhouse, but they were expensive, so my dad gave me a Sims 1 disk instead and said it was basically the same 😅. My parents gifted me a Barbie dollhouse for Christmas eventually. I wish I still had it for nostalgia purposes. I think my parents gave it away when I grew older and edgier, lol. Still forever grateful my dad introduced me to the Sims lol
The movie tour gave me flashbacks of awful haircuts I gave to my dolls 😂 That movie was amazing too, loved TS1 music! I added Superstar OST to the Sims 2 Housemix station so it can play in my nightclubs, lol
I'd pick the green room because I always wanted to learn how to play the drums. I also love color green

I always wanted to know how to play drums too and I think of the colors green is my favorite, so I would want to pick that room too! It would be hard to pick, it's a hard world for these dolls where you are only allowed to enjoy one hobby and one color lmao 😭

NGL I enjoyed this more than the Barbie movie :D I love the vibe of having assorted random kids' bedroom stuff shoved in there with the Barbie stuff. I never had a proper Barbie's dreamhouse as a kid but I had the travel house that looks like a little suitcase on wheels when you close it. I liked the technical aspect of the closet folding into a bed and so on.
This really makes me want to build a sorority house for my current hood. I love playing and decorating sororities (and frats to a lesser degree) but I don't know what to do with all those inhabitants when they graduate :D Like yeah I could make them into townies but then my townie pool will gradually be taken over by former sorority girls which might make for strange demographics. Unless I just have a coven of immortal sorority girls who stay behind to look after the house forever while my playable sims pass through. Hm...

I will forever remember an episode of I think Are You Afraid of the Dark where a girl gets trapped in a dollhouse and slowly transforms into a porcelain doll unless she can escape it. Genuinely creepy to me at the time lol

This also reminds me of cartoons of the era aimed towards girls like "Totally Spies" and "The Powerpuff Girls" that also sported this Y2K girly look with lots of colour.

I guess I'd either choose the pink or purple room since I both enjoy ballet and painting/drawing 😅

It's so funny that all of these items we never use in normal builds just fit in perfectly in this build. Apparently this is what they were made for. 😄❤

can't believe you completely started over! the dedication. the idea of it being a real open dollhouse is so so awesome and rlly interesting way to play the game considering it has always (esp the sims 1) had a dollhouse like feeling already when playing. the sims was my 3d dollhouse

Ayyy, Life Size shoutout! I wanted to rewatch it what with all the Barbie hype, but stupid Disney doesn't have it on Disney+. I'm sure it's somewhere here on CZcams though lol. Though when it comes to dolls coming to life, I always think about those creepy Are You Afraid of the Dark episodes or how my VHS of Indian in the Cupboard (not the best movie nowadays) came with a little action figure that I used to stuff in the empty clamshell, hoping it would come to life, ha. Anyways, really love all the colors with this build. I think you nailed it.

Awesome video, this is so cute and looks like an actual toy I love it, I recently made a few of my first vids on youtube trying to make a kind of gothic dollhouse but I love how you left it open and looking more "fake" and plastic, it's so cute! Sims are essentially just 3d dolls haha

Man the ending for some reason especially the pool area gave me polly pocket vibes!!! also seeing them go from hieratic and static to suddenly dancing at nighttime made me think of toy story toys coming to life when the kids are asleep

I love everything you pointed out, and yes I definitely remember taking action figures to be my barbie's bf lol 😭 I started over because unless I'm mistaken, I'm prettyyy sure that the sun direction is locked in when you create a lot, so even if you move it the sun direction doesn't change. I couldn't find an easy way to fix it so I started over just in case because I didn't want to risk uploading a lot I wasn't happy with. But knowing me I bet there was actually an easy way to fix it lol 💀

Your builds and storylines or ideas always just are so interesting to watch, newer subscriber but I am quickly becoming one that binge watches your content if I miss any because you're doing things that I really don't see a lot especially with sims 2 and your imagination is just really grabs my interest as someone who enjoys making off kilter storylines myself or building kinda out of the box ideas with my sims.

sure! I have the four sorority dolls all ready to upload and can put them up and link you very soon, just have to get back on my simming computer! I don't have packaged versions of any of the other sims b/c I just randomized their appearances except for clothes, but I also put links to the CAS stuff they use on the pinterest board linked in the description so hopefully you could recreate anything about them you liked if you wanted to. I will upload the other sims asap and comment back here! :)
