  • Testing out charging my Metacycle at a public EV ChargePoint station. Station is equipped with a J1772 plug connector, so I had to use an adapter for J1772 to C13. It worked perfectly!

    The bike would be totally awesome with a level 2 charger built-in to that empty hole. And maybe a comfortable seat!

      I ordered a Corbin seat for it so watch for that video soon! As for L2 charging, it would be awesome but I think there's issues with Sondors proprietary BMS. There are people way smarter than me working on that now, so it's just a matter of time. 👍

      Yeah, I reported that on the ChargePoint app. What's the point of having 12 stations and 10 are blocked by ICE fleet vehicles?

    Cool. Just like charging 120v with my house Socket. Less than 80 miles Range then less than 80 miles back. But still less than 4 hours of charge.

    If you try to purchase this and go to the cart to pay, look at the red lettering. The company provides a different link to order from and they're transitioning websites. I went to the changed address and was able to order it.

    Was the bike worth it? Also any idea on if they are making a lvl 2 charger for the bike that you can get direct from Sondors?

    • @austinmotorwerks7937
      @austinmotorwerks7937  Před rokem +2

      The bike was absolutely worth it. I'm riding it more and more as I get comfortable riding in a new cities traffic. As far as Level 2 charging from Sondors, it's doubtful. The limitations lie with the battery management system, battery, and charger. The BMS and battery may not be able to handle the extra load and heat produced. Then there's the charger itself, as it's not built into the bike, one would still have to carry a charging block with them if they wanted to plug in. Only option might be if they build a system that can fit in the void area that can be hard mounted so you wouldn't have to carry it in a bag. Even then, if the battery and BMS can't handle it, it would act as a step down just as this adapter to charger step down does.

      @@PigsTravels As mentioned in another comment EVSE Adapters is moving their website to another host, so the website is not fully functional yet. I'll update the link once the new website is fully functional. I ordered before they started the move, and it did not require anything like a credit check, so I'm not sure what you experienced with that. My order was placed Feb 20, and was delivered Feb 22. Two day turn around is pretty good! You can still call them should you want to order. I personally have never ordered anything on AliExpress, so I can't speak to the adapter you bought.

      You're looking for the "J1772 to IEC C13 Adapter for Electric Motorcycle/Scooter"

    • @austinmotorwerks7937

      Given the time/charge rate I experienced, it's more than likely 120v (Level 1). At 1:42 you can see the details under the image of the car say "1.3kW", which puts me right around 10A (I=p/v : 10.8A=1.3kW/120v). So we are still limited by the Metacycle charger itself. The charger is capable of up to 260v, but only 10A. Level 2 EV chargers are 240/208v, but put out up to 60A.

      @@austinmotorwerks7937 Isn't that 1.3kW the output of the charging station itself? If so, that is the charging station's INPUT to the Meta's charger. Has anyone measured the actual OUTPUT of the Meta charger? The placard on the Meta's charger indicates that its OUTPUT is 84V-18A. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.

      I went to the closest J1772 charger two blocks from my house. I wasn't trying to fully charge, simply show that the adapter works. 2 bars in ~30 minutes is normal charging rate for the Metacycle.

    • @crlla5782
      @crlla5782 Před rokem

      For reference: I recently charged my Metacycle from a 110v outlet at home and in 1.5 hours it went from 3 bars to 8 bars. Public chargers are just another charging option, as you clearly demonstrated. Of course, we do have to plan on toting along our Meta chargers, cords and adapters. But it's always great to have MORE places to charge.

    • @austinmotorwerks7937
      @austinmotorwerks7937  Před rokem +2

      It's to give someone an extra place to top up. If I ride 50+ miles one way I can plug into a charging station with a J1773 plug, instead of trying to hunt around for a regular wall outlet.
