"My name is Kevin, Vegans ate me and my whole family!"
Aldi and lidl are owned by German millionaires.
You should watch the 2016 John Lewis Christmas Ad (John Lewis is the Gold Standard of British Christmas Ads), then you should watch its spoof.
Captain Tom has been hospitalised with covid just today
I guess im randomly asking but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid lost the account password. I would love any help you can offer me!
The day the DFS sale ends is the day the world ends
sales at DFS are like the laws of physics: constant and forever
@Ian Fell please don't say that it's 2020.
@@celtichound9889 yeah probably best not to jinx it!
SCS is even worse, they have a sale all year round
@@harriedavies3940 just like sports direct sales lol
DFS is a sofa manufacturer - famous here for its never-ending sale!
Thank you for clearing that up for us! 😄
the only sale that has been going since the 80s
Also has a nickname 'Dodgy fkin sofas'
Dfs has been on the go since 1969, and are the latest furniture retailer in the uk. Sales have been on go as long as company.
Wallis and grommet also make sofas at least in one ad.
So the waitrose/john lewis advert used different agencies to create the advert to help companies who have lost work during covid. I think it’s a really lovely gesture.
That is so sweet! Thank you for sharing the backstory with us!
Kevin the carrot is a British legend now and sold out in the first day of sale 🥕👍
Incredible!! We'd never heard of him before but can see why he's a big hit 😄
Isn't he christmasy because you use a carrot as a nose for a snowman? Or am I just seeing links where none exist.
@@markrichardson3421 don't forget Santa's reindeer 🎅🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌
@@wencireone you're right forgot about that. Important to feed them up for the venison roast when father Christmas has finished his rounds. 😁
Am asking how long has Kev the Carrot been a legend ? 3 years at most ???
The barbour one is based off "Father christmas" which is a film/book by raymond briggs, the same author/illustrator as the snowman.
Have a merry bloomin’ Christmas:)
OMG the one where the kid dressed as a plug launches himself into the socket like a legend!!
Thank you for the recommendation!
The Amazon advert was shot in Ljubljana and the ballerina is actually French. But you are right about how everyone sees their own country in it. Very very clever editing and shot selection.
My favourite Christmas advert of all time is the dog on the trampoline advert. Makes me laugh so much every time I see it!
everyone raves about the ww1 Sainsbury's ad. But I'm shouting out for Mog at Christmas (also Sainsbury's I think) with the wonderful Judith Kerr in a cameo. Watch it. It's perfect
Thank you for the recommendation!
Mog Xmas ad is here 2015 czcams.com/video/kuRn2S7iPNU/video.html
Mog was an awesome ad!
The 2014 Sainsburys WW1 Christmas advert is really an all-time classic...a real tear jerker at the time too. Mind you, the 2015 Mog the Forgetful Cat one was really good too!
The Father Christmas in the Barbour advent looks like the one in The Snowman because he is the same character! A separate cartoon was made called 'Father Christmas' Both were based on the books written by Raymond Briggs. You should watch it! ☺️
Oh wow!!! We had no idea there were more books in that series! Thank you!
Also a Kit Kat advert from years back
@@WanderingRavens - he also wrote Fungus the Bogeyman (the life of a Bogeyman who has to spend his evenings hiding under children's beds) and When the Wind Blows, the post- Nuclear apocalypse story of an elderly couple who keep drinking tea until the very end.

Cat stole the show! 😄
@@WanderingRavens Hehe. Should've kept him/her outside the room 😂
The Sainsbury's 2014 advert is 100% a must see, it's great
Omg yeah that was brilliant
I came to say the same thing. I just watched it again. Best Christmas advert ever. Ravens make sure you watch it! It’s based on real events
I second the Sainsbury's 2014 advert, one of the best Christmas ads ever.
It's the only advert that has ever left me in tears.
Kevin the carrot is a massive hit here in the UK.
My grandma and my baby brother both love Kevin lol.
He's adorable! 😄
Hate Kevin the Carrot.
Stopping kids from eating them as they relate carrots to Kevin so poor mum has even less veg they will eat now !
@@WanderingRavens a Christmas tradition for me is to watch Charles Dickens Christmas Carol every year and the second is too quite often go up a trouser size through December and New Year this year I have excelled myself and gone up 2 trouser sizes and it's not quite New Year yet when I weigh myself in January I sure I'll be the heaviest I've been
@@dave_h_8742feck off, everyone else loves it, you're definitely the Christmas Grinch for these comments!!
"what kind of cake is this?" ahhhhh...Christmas cake??
The Barbour advert is based on a Raymond Briggs’ book and he wrote The Snowman. Also, it’s definitely Father Christmas. ‘Santa Claus’ is a US import.
The Santa Claus character dressed in red actually originated from a Coca Cola ad based on a German myth.
Can't get that Waitrose advert song out of my head!! So sweet! ❤️️
Please please do a reaction to this The sainsburys Christmas ad set in World War I 2014 I think
@@pipercharms7374 Thank you for the recommendation!
Diddnt see it... You go from talking about vpns to waitose next to "that was so cute" without anything in-between assuming it's been cut for copyright violation
I find the Amazon advert really moving for two reasons. One is that I used to be a ballet dancer, I loved it but had to stop when I got ill a few years ago and never regained the confidence to go back to it. I still love watching it. The second is that they used an orchestral version of The Show Must Go On which I find such a moving song, it always gives me goosebumps. RIP Freddie 💜
Barbour makes weatherproof clothing, and I know them for their waxed canvas motorcycle suits which are really tough and super waterproof. You can recondition them by washing them thoroughly and re-coating them with the seemingly alive wax. You can't store it for long because the wax creeps past the lid and forms a puddle around the can.
The Lidl advert is very tongue in cheek and is basically taking the mikcy out of supermarket Christmas adverts. The " emotional gravy" refers to this years Sainsbury's advert where a young person is talking to their Dad about hopefully coming home for Christmas her Dad says about his wonderful gravey that is so good he made a song about it.
Carrots are Christmasy, we leave them for the reindeer, if we have snow we use them for the snowman's nose, and like sprouts (for some 😁) carrots are always part of the traditional Christmas dinner 😊
If we make a part 2 of the best UK adverts of all time, which adverts should we include?? 😄
@Fred Bates yep that's Sainsbury's 2014 ad- I also really like their 2018 and 2019 ones
Definitely watch the best John Lewis ones- the snowman one, the penguin one, and the rabbit and the hare
@Fred Bates Thank you for the recommendation!
The Sainsbury's advert
My two favourites are both John Lewis - the penguin (2014) and Excitable Edgar (2019)
It was always Father Christmas when I was growing up but Santa is creeping in more and more
The waitrose advert is all about bringing people together and accepting everyone for their differences.
The ad with father Christmas is indeed made by the same people as the Snowman. It based on an old film they made.
Merry Christmas to you both too! You both have such lovely energy, you could make a video on anything and it would still be uplifting!!! Keep up the good work love your videos!
You are such a nice couple, it is a joy to watch your videos! So genuinely friendly!
Have a magical Christmas!💕💕
I like the cat which made an appearance right at the start!!
He stole the show!!
Fun fact, the cartoon Father Christmas in the Barbour advert is from a couple of festive comics, later made into a short cartoon made by Raymond Briggs, who also made The Snowman book, and short. The short's called Father Christmas, and it's actually quite good.
Father Christmas in the barbour advert is Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas who is famous for The Snowman, Fungus the Bogeyman and the excellent but sad When the wind blows.
You beat me to it! I was just going to say that lol
No wonder he looked so familiar!!
I still have the father christmas book from when i was little ☺️
Wandering Ravens react to When The Wind Blows. Set aside a day for it. An hour and twenty minutes to watch it and the rest of the day to stare mutely at the wall.
Just wasted time saying exactly the same
The co-op advert is brilliant and it was filmed just down the road from us, merry Christmas from the the UK
My favourite Christmas ad from the past few years probably have to be Sainsbury's. But the ones I remember most and miss a lot are the Toys R Us adverts. There is a German Christmas ad from a few years back, I don't remember what for, but it made me cry so much, it's worth a watch to remember how important family is.
I disagree because the best Christmas Ads ever since 2016 was when Aldi came up with Kevin the Carrot, ever since Aldi just beats all the other Christmas Ads!!
*Wandering Ravens:* collects various adverts, watches the videos, reacts and give their opinions, edits the footage, uploads to CZcams.
*Everybody in the comments:* LOOK ... it's a CAT!!
lol, cats rule the internet
Haha unfortunately it's just a friend's cat - he stole the show!!
so true!!
Aldi and Lidl are both German companies, started by brothers. They originally started one (can't remember which) together, then fell out and one of the brothers then went off and started the other as a direct competitor.
Carrots are festive cause they are a staple Christmas dinner vegetable to most Brits, also dfs sells sofas (couches).
Thank you for sharing your insight with us! 😄
I think the carrot thing also references the leaving out a plate of carrots for the reindeer as well as milk and biscuits/mince pies for santa unless it was only my family that did it?
@@mollymoonfan5939 Plus a glass of whisky for Santa of course, which was always empty in the morning (so Santa has to be real, right?).
We call him Father Christmas here in the UK
I call him both, not sure why though
True and e.g. ' Père Noël' in France. Most of us in Europe recognise the origins of 'Saint Nicholas', "Gift bringer and patron saint of children".
Americans, as is their wont, transliterated "Sinterklaas" to 'Santa Claus". I am surprised that the whole 'Jolly fat man dressed in red with fur trimmings' was not invented by Disney or Hollywood!
BTW: My fathers boyhood friend's nickname was 'Son'. The family name was 'Christmas' and Son's dad was, of course, 'Father Christmas'.
@@TheAlanSaunders the red costume was actually invented by the coca cola corporation in the 1930's. Up until then he was usually depicted in a green robe in the UK.
I've seen the Amazon advert a few times and only just realized the song is Queen's "The Show Must Go On"
Oh!! We didn't catch that either!
I was humming along and literally rewound this video until I figured out what it was 😄
Omggg
With an arrangement very similar to (and probably inspired by) the arrangement of it in Moulin Rouge.
The Santa character is off a cartoon called 'Father Christmas' which is written by Raymond Briggs. Yes, you were correct in thinking it's like The Snowman. That's because he wrote The Snowman too. The Father Christmas cartoon, shows a different side of him. It's only on for about 25 minutes due to children's lack of concentration. It tells the story of what he gets up to after he's done his present deliveries for the year till the next Christmas. He's a bit grumpy in the cartoon.
Happy Holidays to you both... Loving these videos. Your such a happy couple. Sorry you had to be here during covid, lots of amazing places to see here in the UK. Greetings from Devon 🇬🇧
Those Christmas ads that have a whole table full of food always remind me of childhood films. Because all the good films woulf come on the tele at Christmas time, we'd always record them to video tape and have them for the rest of the year. So no matter what time of year it was, when we'd watch that film, we'd always have to fast forward through the Christmas ads.
Barbour is indeed a manufacturer of clothing such as coats (high end, expensive). The Father Christmas animation is from a Father Christmas story by Raymond Briggs, who also wrote The Snowman. The stories were animated in a similar way. In the UK, we call him either Father Christmas, or Santa Claus; either name works. But traditionally we leave him a glass of sherry and a mince pie, not milk and cookies as they do in the USA.
Of course carrots are festive. Not only do we have them on our Christmas dinner, we leave them out for Santa's reindeer.
And they're snowmen's noses
I'm not sure you fully understood Lidl's advert. The idea is that it pokes fun at christmas adverts, for example the moment with the robin looks like its going to be emotional but then they just show a price tag and move on! I think its really clever!
It's Father Christmas in the UK , same as we say Happy or Merry Christmas and not happy holidays, interesting the differences and I must say you guys have a natural and pleasant manner about you and it cones across well in your videos.
10/10 for choosing the replacement music for the McDonalds ad - it was great.
And yes - Sainsburys Christmas ad is THE BEST EVER.
I only ever remember hearing "Santa Claus (Saint Nicholas)" when watching American content. In the UK it was always Father Christmas.
Santa Claus in Scotland.
Santa in Northern Ireland.
The Amazon ad was definitely a favourite. It is very touching but also because I'm a massive Queen fan and "The Show Must Go On" is one of my favourite songs of theirs and it's a beautiful arrangement of it.
Merry Christmas!!! I love watching you guys react to British adverts and TV. Its always interesting to learn the difference between British and American things. The cake in the first advert is a Christmas cake. They're delicious!
It looks delicious!! We'll try to make one! :D
@@WanderingRavens its quite fun! I made mine yesterday and my mum likes them so much she's having one for her wedding cake lol. Make sure to add lots of spices! : D

DFS sells settees (sofas) and are famous for always having a sale on. Legend has it that DFS really stands for "Don't Finish Sunday" in a jab at their never ending Sales that "Must end Sunday"
I have the Raymond Briggs Father Christmas book from when I was little, always been one of my favourites! Happy to see him in an advert, I'm unable to go home to the UK for xmas this year so it's nice to see the adverts still!
Love this video and happy Christmas to everyone, however feeling a little bemused and utterly surprised that there wasn’t a John Lewis advert in this video. All of their adverts are iconic and it is a day which everyone in the uk waits for when it comes out!
I always find it amusing that every year adverts feature snowy scenes. With the exception of maybe Scotland, I've never known a 'white Christmas' in the UK - its usually just wet and cold.
Used to get a white Christmas sometimes where I grew up, lived on the edge of Dartmoor. My birthday is 2 days before Christmas and used to occasionally get snow then as well. Would also get snowed in.
There was snow on the ground on Christmas day 2010 in Leeds - quite a lot of it. I don't think it actually snowed on the day itself though, so it isn't counted as an official White Christmas, even though it was. It's definitely snowed around Christmas time since then as well, but that year there was still a thick covering on the day.
Hi wandering ravens. Dfs is a British sofa/couch dealer and they got Ardmann to do most of their adverts now, hence Wallice and Gromit being in it. Hope this helps. Edit: Lidl and Aldi do compete with each other.
DFS - Discount Furniture Store
So I really like the Co-Op add this year, with the two brothers singing, but probably because I like the song haha
Such a great video, loved your reactions to most of the videos. It got me thinking whether most of your viewers are Brits, Americans, and how many are from elsewhere in the world. Maybe you've mentioned this in previous videos, but I've forgotten!!! Anyway, great video again, stay safe, and have a very Merry Christmas!!! Keep up the good work!!!
DFS sell furniture (sofa's, beds etc), and they seem to constantly have a sale on all year round so the adverts are never off the TV (although not all are holiday themed)
To answer the Father Christmas question, traditionally we call him Father Christmas in the UK, but now that we're an Americanised society, people here say "Santa Claus", or just "Santa", as well. So both terms are now used in this country, but traditionally he was always known as just Father Christmas. 😃
Also, the reason why the animation in the Dudley the Sausage Dog advert looks a bit like The Snowman is because the original Father Christmas book was by Raymond Briggs, who also wrote The Snowman.
This was the first time I actually enjoyed an ad for Nord VPN.
Yes, we say Father Christmas usually. You hear some say Santa sometimes, but probably people that have been watching American TV. Barbour sell clothing, mostly outdoor country style wear including waxed waterproof jackets.
Father Christmas is a traditional English folk character, who used to be dressed in green though that changed in the 20th century. Being an English tradition, it didn’t feature strongly in Scotland, and so there seems to be a higher proportion of people from Scotland using the American (Dutch) Santa Claus terminology. As was suggested by the Marx brothers, ‘You can’t fool me; there ain’t no sanity clause.’
DFS is for sofas and beds and that kin of thing - used to stand for Direct Furnishing Supplies. Lidl is a direct competitor of Aldi, yes
Re McD's ad. He was hiding his inner childhood as like you said, he's a teen. The McD's food brought it back to the brink and made him HUMAN again. LOL
That's the best VPN promo I've seen. You guys are so much fun. 😂😊
Wow, thank you so much!! :D So glad you enjoy our videos :D
Barbour, Wax Jackets. As worn by Father Christmas, also known as Santa Claus. The Snowman was written and illustrated, by Raymond Briggs, who also wrote a couple of stories about Father Christmas. This advert is based on Mr. Briggs’ artwork.
Father Christmas cartoon by Raymond Briggs is just brilliant. The voice used to be the late comedian Mel Smith. The Snowman is also written by Raymond Briggs and it is on TV every year. Well worth checking those out over the Christmas period.
I loved the one about the ballet...actually I really loved that they used a Queen song as background.
Dfs are a furniture manufacturer & seller. It was originally called Northern Upholstery & is based in my hometown , Doncaster.
The DFS sale ends at midnight New Years Eve and starts again one minute past 12 on New Years Day.
Carrots the food children put out for Father Christmas's reindeer. Barbour is a clothes store aimed at the well to do. Tesco are nationwide and so using different accents shows this.
You are right about Aldi and Lidl, they are in direct competition and very similar, supplying cheaper groceries than the other main chain stores.
Yes Grace, we call him Father Cristmas more than Santa but the influence of American films (not movies) and TV are having affect over here.
The Irn Bru Snowman advert is a must!
Barbour make traditional British coats and jackets. The Queen has been wearing the same one for decades and was offered a new one by Barbour for her diamond jubilee, but she refused and just asked for her existing one to be rewaxed instead! Also, the ad is an animated version of Raymond Briggs' Father Christmas, the same man who created The Snowman
People love the 1914 ad because it's based on a true story so it's really emotional. Its still my favourite too! Of these the Tesvo and McDonald's were my favourite as well.
It IS a couch, DFS is, I think, Discount Furniture Store.
Probably due to the American influence, people are calling him Santa Claus (or just Santa) more often, he always used to be Father Christmas in Britain.
He still is Father Christmas, never Santa Claus.
DFS stands for the Discount Furniture Store! ... they're always doing 'Sales' Ads.....whether this is Christmas, New Year, Spring, or end of Summer sale. They will say something like "....hurry, sale must end *bank holiday Monday".
*(like a public holiday except that the shops are open!)
My favourite this year is the McDonalds advert. I just love that Mother/Son relationship. I rather like all the ones you showed with the exception of the Lidl advert. Like you I saw what they were trying to do, but I missed the mark by a long a way for me this year
Aldi and Lidle owners are brothers. DFS make sofas and chairs. The cake in Aldi advert was a traditional Christmas cake.
Hey Eric and Grace! 2019’s John Lewis Christmas advert was another heartwarming one that I loved. Well worth watching. Also previous years’ Wallace & Gromit DFS adverts are also worth giving a go.
You have got to include the Irn Bru Snowman adverts in your follow up. There were at least two.
my favourite Christmas advert is the John Lewis 'man in the moon' advert, brings a tear to my eye everytime!
also the Sainsbury's 2014 christmas advert!!
Barbour used the film father christmas for the advert. Firm favourite of the family to watch on Christmas day. "It's another bloomin' Christmas!"🎅
Last year's Aldi and McDonald's adverts are both worth a look and this years walkers crisps advert (the one for the sausage roll flavour)
The John Lewis Christmas ad from 2013 (Hare and the bear) is our all time favourite Christmas advert
Hey guys, greetings from South Africa... Keep up the great work. I always enjoy your videos... Keep safe and Merry Christmas
DFS is a large furniture retailer with DFS standing for Direct Furnishing Supplies, as others have said they're known for constantly having sales and it's become something of a joke that when the DFS sale finally ends so will the World. They're actually a much bigger company than most people realise and have stores in Europe and Ireland too.
Barbour make the very expensive waxed jackets that the likes of royalty wear on their country estates, also popular with farmers and general country types. You can even send them back to the manufacturer for repairs as referenced in the ad. They’re meant to last for many years.
You could do what the good people of South Shields do as well, just go to their outlet shop and buy them for a fraction of the cost, ironically canny auld Shields is probably the most working class town you could live in, and it supplies Royalty and the well to do with the famous " Barbour Jacket".
happy new year and merry christmas
The Father Christmas cartoon used in the Barbour ad is based on an animation of a chidren's book by author Raymond Briggs where Father Christmas is depicted as a kind of antihero. The Snowman was also an animation of one of his books by the same people so well done spotting the similarity. You need to check out the Christmas Irn Bru ads which are hilarious versions of The Snowman. They are on CZcams.
The music to the snow queen ad was using music by Queen called the "Show Must Go On".
I liked that Amazon's ad used Queen's song "The Show Must Go On"; how apt.
To answer your questions regarding the Father Christmas ad, This is based on the Raymond Briggs take on Father Christmas/Santa Claus
I advise you look up the tv special "Father Christmas" of which that series of ads originate from
DFS - Darleydale Furniture Store started in Derbyshire.
Thank you!
South Shields is about 10 miles along the road from Newcastle - it's on the coast, you should visit.

I’m a Brit living in the states so enjoy hearing your views in all things British from an American perspective.
How long will you be in UK ?
Keep up the good work.
Until we stop watching their videos
This year, have a look at the Irn Bru xmas advert. Based on the snowman and like all their other ads, are hilarious.
Do you wait for Christmas ads, here its like waiting for Superbowl ads, the John Lewis one is like the Superbowl Budweiser and Coke ad, we all wait for it. I love this years Tesco ad, it's fun. Defiantly watch the Sainsbury WWII, it so good, it will make you cry
Every Christmas the animation of Father Christmas, based on a book by Raymond Briggs is shown on tv. The same as The Snowman. So for the Barbour advert you were spot on. You should check out Father Christmas, its lovely. He, or Santa lol, goes on holiday!
do you have brussels sprouts in america and if so do you like them? in the UK most people say they don't like them, but will eat them because it's christmas, personally i love them
The Waitrose ad caused uproar because of the bus at the end number 222 Tooting because the 222 doesn't go to Tooting
Thanks for the insider tip! 😂
It’s Tooting not Totting
I have a question for you unrelated to the ads (well, other than DFS maybe): that sofa looks super comfy, so why do you always sit on the floor?
OMG guys how did you not cry through these ads?! Or did Covid just make me an emotional mess haha
I hated the Lidl ad. It ruined the Christmas spirit
You need to rewatch the McDonald's one, notice the family portrait on the wall (three people in that picture), and the three decorations named Tom, mum and dad I think It's a very subtle covid/mourning reference and the reason why the kid was anxity was because his father died (perhaps corona related?) and that his mum was trying to cheer him up but only manky macks could do it. Subtle but clever. But that's my theory.
