230 Tornado Jeep Engine Distributor - Is this much slop normal in the coupler above the shaft.?.

That is a lovejoy coupling on the shaft. In industrial applications it is used when there are minor misalignments between two ends of an intended drive shaft. They are also used to isolate a vibration on one end ofthe shaft. In this case it would seem there is a misalignment between the bottom of the distributor and the corresponding location where its driven from. The percieved slop in the shaft refelects the effective bend in the shaft the lovejoy allows. Since the bushing is rubber I would reccomend inspecting it, it is the failure point for those couplers and that is pretty old rubber.
Its going to rely on the oil pump at the other end for stability. Its important that little to no slop is noted at the rotor end otherwise the point gap will be inconsistent and noticeable on a dwell meter.
Hi - once it was installed it was quite solid. I don’t know how to use a dwell meter. It’s on the list of things to do.

Honestly I don’t know. The best place for 230 info is the oldwillysforum. The engine wasn’t much known for its installation in the smaller Jeep trucks. But it was.

You can still find stuff on eBay and other websites online. But there really is not much left. I think Argentina is the best place to find stuff since they used the engine down there for a long time.
