- This video is about READING WITH A HAITIAN ACCENT and listening to the "O" sound. This is a fun way to both learn and hear the Haitian Accent with a twist. After all accent work doesn't have to be taught the same way! Like.Share. & Comment. While we welcome all opinions, this is a positive space! The world is serious enough, we welcome fun!
Haitian Accents vary in region, many factors play into an accent. This video is based on a generalized Haitian Accent. Your family may say and have different variations for different accents. Like the Northern, Southern, & Midwest accents in the United States for example. This video was created to expand the awareness that black accents, experiences and cultures are not monolithic. This Haitian accent is a general Haitian Accent. We welcome positive inputs on the different variations that make up an island so full and rich with history that literally changed the world!
|| VIDEO TIP ||: Think of accent work, particular for BLACK ACCENTS think of the colonizers. Haiti had the French so the placement is not based in British RP which is wide. ALWAYS THINK FORWARD. The "O" Sound is very forward.

Thanks for this. I'm not a native English speaker and, in very rare occasions, in my line of work, I come across people from different English speaking countries, and it seems I'm the only one in my workplace who speaks and understands a little bit, but in this opportunity it had to do with an Haitian who couldn't speak spanish at all. Your videos will help me, at least a little, to adapt my ear to the sound of this accent. Even Brittish english is hard for me to understand, although I've practiced it with CZcams videos and streamers, who are abundant.

I’m here trying to understand my best friends broken Haitian English, language divides us as a people!
But when we take the time learn each other's language, culture and POV it can also be the thing that unites us!
Ok this might sound weird and crazy, but at 17 I noticed that I had an Haitian/Jamaican accent only when I got mad or drunk. This accent has gotten stronger as I got older and I realize that I sound Haitian especially after watching your video. What confuses me is that I’m African American so how tf do I have an accent???? This only happens when I’m mad or when I get drunk sometimes other then that I talk normal. I’m not forcing it so I don’t understand and I don’t know any Haitians. I don’t understand we’re this accent came from. Is it a possibility that I have Haitian deep down in my blood line? I’m so so so curious and confused
I don’t feel weird anymore because someone else kind of ask the same thing on a different channel so it isn’t just me. I feel better, but I still don’t understand it lol

Mhm yes it’s in your DNA sometimes I have an accent that pops out (some sort of carribean accent too) and it’s probably an ancestor coming through especially if you’re intoxicated or your emotions are heightened
