I live in country NSW and I can tell you that I would NEVER run in the bush, even on the tracks, without a personal locator beacon. You might safely run through the bush, 100 times but on run 101 you find yourself in trouble and every second counts. Do I know what happened to Samantha, no I don't, but with no blood evidence or physical evidence, at least that DISCLOSED to the public, Ive only discounted discounted the local kangaroo mobs in that area. I concur with Dr G that the Police have additional information which they won't share until they're good and ready to do so and I fear that this much loved wife and mother is no longer living. As of now I am sending my condolences to her entire family who are living through a situation that I pray never to be in! Thank you Dr G for your analysis.
She had her mobile phone and was never outside mobile range. There would be no reason to think that any further ability to contact the outside world would be necessary. This is an area near Ballarat, not a desert area where temperatures can be extreme.
I just posted about running in an area like this by yourself and have no idea why women continue to do it. Most of the time things are going to be okay but what about that one time? Were you run across a man that's going to take advantage of the situation and do something. A phone, watch? It's not going to help. I feel so bad for the family of this woman and I can only pray that they find her remains if she's not with us and can find out somehow who did this to her. How sad
@@bellsina7150 Exactly! I used to run around my neighborhood a lot, until a creepy couple (man/woman in a shabby car) pretty much blocked me and tried to get me to step in closer to ask where there is a restaurant around here. I backed away, shouted to go up that street to broadway and use their phones to find a restaurant I ran towards a random house as if it was mine and I could have judged the situation incorrectly, yet they knew they were in an affluent neighborhood / no restaurants, strip malls, or restaurants anywhere. All of a sudden they're hungry and both of them need My help ? My instincts told me it wasn't smelling right They could have just been out on a Sunday drive and gotten lost, yet better safe than sorry. Calling 911 would have taken at least 20 minutes for them to arrive, and they could have shoved me into the trunk and been long gone. No ear buds for me when I'm running even in the gym
What makes you think she went jogging at all as NO ONE saw her on any track. The pic of her between 2 cars in driveway was a old picture. Some thing very fishy.
Samantha Murphy has been murdered and an arrest has been made. A 22 year old man has been charged, the search for her body continues. Australia is collectively horrified.
Yesh he's a son of a former professional Australian rules footballer, they used the Cell tower information to narrow him down and was tracking his behaviour and movements for a number of weeks before they were confident enough to arrest him. Would be interesting if you re-reviewed this in a year's time when you have a bit more public information. This probably demonstrates with the amount of surveillance that exists now with cameras and cell phone tower pings, if you want to get away with a major crime you really need to be off the grid and plan very well.
My roommate / bff thinks watching your videos before bed everyday is a lil weird but they're like bedtime stories and I love your subtle jokes. Thanks for making them 😊
I get it, because a lot of our parents read books to us while growing up during raising us. On the other hand, there's nothing soothing about these cases and I can literally only watch so many in a single day. Sometimes I don't even watch true crime for a week at a time. On the other hand, I can also acknowledge that most people these days are so desensitized to horrific things that this type of things actually becomes soothing and it's actually fairly alarming. I would suggest you not watch true crime for a long time or read, watching, nor entertain yourself with awful things for a long time and you can successfully train your brain to be sensitive again.
Aussie here 🇦🇺. I actually suggested this case several weeks ago and very much appreciate you taking the time to analyse this for us Dr Todd. 22 year old man living 15 miles away arrested and charged, will not say where body is. No information given first attack related. You're correct again sir.
No indication that they knew each other though… except in the past, he had been a student at the school where Samantha had worked in the uniform shop. That doesn’t mean they knew each other though. He is unknown to her family.

Just some context. Describing the running route as a 'trail' may be misleading. This area is criss-crossed with graded dirt/gravel roads and rougher roads more like fire tracks. Most of the area is accessible by ordinary cars and abduction by an an assailant(s) with a vehicle is a possibility. The area of the disappearance is within a 10 minutes drive of a regional town of over 100,000 people so its not the remote outback.
This is huge story down in Aus. Running in rural areas, especially if you track on something like Strava, can be very dangerous if a bad actor is involved. We hope they find Samantha!
@@allieniner675 I think the tragic case with Luke Davies and Jess Baird took most of the media coverage and public attention. Both so sad! It seems like there has been an increasing level of violence down here in the last 6 months!

I used to take 1 hour walks with my sister down uninhabited roads surrounded by bushlands with my sister in Airlie Beach, Queensland. Quite often she even she went walking on her own. We didn't think about it back then, but we were probably putting ourselves at risk every time we went, which was almost daily. Airlie Beach seemed like a small friendly town back in the 90's, but so did many other small towns where bad things happened. There is a degree of danger in every country that you go to and Australia is no exception. I think she's met with foul play and more than likely someone who knew her. I would never go walking/hiking alone in isolated areas anymore. It sucks but that's the world we live in now. Thanks Dr Grande.
Millions of people do this every day. The chances of meeting a premature end are slim to none. You have to live life to the fullest, do what you love and pray for the best.

I live about 50 miles from Ballarat. Lots of wilderness out that way. Very pretty, but it's kind of creepy too. Sounds as though someone abducted her sadly
@@ursodermatt8809Dr Grande isn't calling in to mislead and bother the investigation. The delusional nutjobs who think they have psychic powers, aren't JUST speculating, they're also bothering cops with their idiotic garbage. If you think Dr Grande's speculation is no better than a child, then you're a nutjob too.
Are you actually telling us that the Australian police are actually telling people to stop speculating about what may be happening in a case like this? 🤔
Yes, when it comes to psychic morons speculating about issues they can't possibly know about. We have a very low threshold for stupidity here in Australia. Anyone who rings the police and tells them they had a premonition get ignored instantly because the vast majority of Aussies aren't superstitious idiots.
The police only asked the public to stop calling in with “waste of time” psychic type clues, if you have a genuine clue then call by all means. It’s wasting police time by saying “I think, or my tarot cards said” Still no news on her at all.
I am sure they are referring to people broadcasting in from Canada, Germany, Thailand, etc. that have no connections to the case or the area and are calling the police with “According to my crystal ball 🔮, she was kidnapped by aliens and is on Planet Mars” theories. I do not believe they would turn away people who had genuine leads or know real information that would solve the case. As the previous commenter said, it’s a total waste of police time and I am sure that it is probably a misdemeanor to knowingly make a false report, as it is in the US
@@shrodingerscat4191 The Australian and State Governments handled Covid extremely well and had the overwhelming support of the community, except for a few right-wing nut cases. You GOT it ! The cops were indeed saying nothing but they had heaps of information- they were reviewing which mobile phones were in the area at the same time and place as Samantha. And eliminating people. That’s how they got him. Well done !
Police have arrested a 22 year old brom Ballarat and charged him with murder .Speculation is that police got the pings for people that had mobile phones in the same area as the victim .
I believe that she was attacked by someone who knew her and her movements. Consensus in Ballarat is that it is not the husband. It is a very tight community.

I live in Ballarat. The last murder in the area was related to the drug activity of the outlawed motorcycle gang, the Banditos. If she came across a drug deal, she may have been made to disappear; we also have currently 2 Middle Eastern gangs firebombing cigaretteshops in a "war " to control the illegal tobacco trade( Allegedly. ) . It is all so sad for her family.
Without any evidence we don't need speculation against 1% MC's who keep there business to themselves not attract unwanted attention by hurting members of the public
Hey Todd, Patrick Stephenson has been accused of the murder of Samantha Murphy. I thought I would let you know of this development incase you were interested in incorporating additional information when analysing the motives, or personality traits of the people involved at a later date. Best, an Aussie
Excellent analysis yet again. We might never find out what happened to Samantha but from or massive experiences here in Australia most people died from convicts released on bail. They get released to claim another victim or a group of them like Jill Meagher case or the case when the convict who was on bail ran over pedestrians in Melbourne CBD - which I witnessed myself during lunchtime. We had numerous cases like this. There's something terribly wrong with our justice system in Oz.
The 22 yr old guy has been charged with her murder. He was found via phone cell tower data. He has not revealed where her body is located. He has a law here in Australia 'No body, no parole'. So fingers crossed he spills his guts and the family can have closure.
A 22 year old has been charged with her murder. He wasn’t known to Samantha. Police believe he killed her the day she went missing. He so far has refused to tell police where her body is. At least her family has some closure, and hopefully have her body soon so they can lay her to rest. Such a sad awful case. As an Aussie, I have been watching it closely.
I live in Australia myself in Tasmania ( Australia consists of 2 Islands ) This happened on the mainland as you said in Victoria. The area is pock marked with mine shafts as it was/is a Goldfields area. Your last 2 minutes of this are so accurate and mirror what I am thinking. The Dog has disappeared as well at the same time. Samantha was superbly fit and could easily have distanced an average person .She knew the area well .I think the police know a LOT more than they are revealing but gathering that evidence and even putting together a prosecution takes time. The public are far too obsessed with an immediate answer and it doesn't work that way. I am surprised that they didn't call in an Aboriginal Tracker. These people read footprints like you and I read the newspaper. If a woman was assaulted before it's reasonable to suspect that is a possibility no one can discount. Some weirdo like Paul Denyer aka the Mornington Monster. Murdered and then thrown down a mine shaft and then maybe a shot Kangaroo carcass thrown on top of her. Simone Quinlan was shot and thrown down a mine shaft. Her body discovered in 3 pieces. She could have staged her own disappearance also. Police are widening their look at the phones that pinged the tower's at that time too. I think we are on a cusp of revelation but when it will come is anyone's guess.
No, it’s been reported that a day or so after Samantha disappeared, the dog actually escaped from the yard and was sadly hit by a car. Unfortunately, it needed to be euthanised due to its injuries.
@@joannewilson1483 I agree with you. There are 5000 - 6000 mineshafts in and around Ballarat and are up to 100 metres deep (according to a local expert). Many of the mineshafts are unregistered. Anyone could take a few steps off the running track and accidentally fall down a shaft. It’s very, very sad.
Except the phone locations would pretty well pinpoint where she was when the signal dropped out. So they would only have to search for mine shafts within a hundred feet of her last signal location. I'm in a remote part of Montana, and when I use Google location my phone pinpoints exactly where I am it's at least within 20 ft. So it seems to me, her electronic devices had to have been disabled before she was removed from the last location.
I thought your answer was clever but far fetched. Then I found out these faraday bags are for sale on Amazon. I was wondering how her phone would get disabled if no one but her knew the phone code. I see a faraday bag solves the problem. @@mkayokay3192
Thank You for covering this case! Another Ausssie case, can you please cover the recent Luke Davies and Jesse Baird murders by a previous partner or date who was a cop.
There are so many people currently living in bushland areas like Ballarat due to our housing crisis, lack of mental health facilities and addiction issues. I participated in clean up Australia day a couple of years ago and it was scary with amount of unsavoury characters encountered on that day alone.
I don’t think the Apple Watch and iPhone should necessarily be considered two devices. The watch links to the phone; turn off the phone, then *both go offline. Unless she had separate cellular service for the watch, which is unusual.
I am from Ballarat, and may l say the people here have not given up on finding Samantha. I do think there could be a connection to Sissy’s attack. One thing for sure is that it has changed the way women run and walk around our beautiful town. You described it as a drug and homeless person Mecca. We do have that however that is just a fraction of what makes our town great. I safely walk everyday, just a lot more carefully which is what everyone despite where they live should be doing.

There is currently a breakthrough in this case. Police have uncovered devices data , coming from nearby signal tower ,of people who were in the same area with Samantha at the time when she vanished.
This is a baffling case. I live in the west of Victoria Australia and went to primary school with Samantha who was then Samantha Robson. I also worked with her around 1991 92. Hopefully whatever happened to her is found out soon for the family’s sake. It’s just very sad.

Never walk or run in the bush with ear buds as any predator will see you as easy prey. Always be capable of running and fighting. Who was at the dinner party? They were the only people who knew her plans for that day. Police will be investigating the dinner party guests as a priority.
I think they should look into the people she had dinner with the night before. She’s been running somewhere new, and nothing bad had happened, suddenly, she has dinner with people - tells them, then the next day goes missing? Big coincidence
I’m sure the police have looked or are looking into all possibilities. I doubt this has anything to do with her missing but anything’s possible at this stage.
UPDATE-Our dilligent police have charged a 22 yr old male with Samantha's murder. He is not assisting with the location of her body. Mobile phone data from the area was scrutinised which led investigators to identify the suspect. As yet it is believed to be a targeted attack, however more details will come to light as the murder investigation continues. RIP Samantha. Very sad and tragic loss of life.
You should take a look at the killer of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies by an employed police officer in Sydney Australia who was supposedly infatuated with Baird who was a tv presenter and formerly romanticly involved with the killer
I would take a hard look at the dinner party gathering the night before. You had indicated that she made her hiking plans known to the guests, making her easy prey for anyone at the party with ill intentions. It sounds like someone knew exactly where and when she could be ambushed along the trail and had plenty of time to dispose of her body.
I think the mental-health aspects cannot be overlooked in any case which involves a person willingly participating in something referred to as a "thirteen mile fun run"
A 22 year old man is now in police custody and has been charged with Samantha's murder, although he is refusing to cooperate with police re the location of her body. Police have stated that the perpetrator is not known to the family.
This is so so so sad and wrong if police are withholding even from the daughter, as she appears so utterly distraught the poor darling 😢 may Samantha' be found safe... still praying... Thanks Dr G we are all over here wishing for the best outcome but knowing it probably won't come ....
Withholding certain details means being able to determine if someone they talk to mentions details they couldn't otherwise know and could be vital in catching or prosecuting someone or finding her.
Some areas are unsafe for anyone to run in alone. By the way, police often withhold key evidence in cases like this because there are lunatics that will confess to a crime that they didn't do, for attention seeking purposes and keeping key evidence secret helps to week out the lunatics.
Since her husband owns an auto body shop, he could’ve easily driven a damaged car from his shop to keep anyone from reporting his car being in the area.
I believe there’s footage of him hours after she went running and he didn’t drive to that areas. It’s doubtful unless he had people do this with instructions on where and when she will be running.

I had been thinking it was probably a random attack from a stranger but after watching your video I am really starting to think it was planned by someone she knew who wanted her gone. All the other theories don’t really make sense as somebody had to disable her technology quickly and ensure there was no evidence left for anyone to find. Yesterday here, a 22 yr old male was arrested and charged with her murder, which they allege occurred on the day she disappeared. We all hoped for a miracle, which really was so unrealistic. I personally would never run or walk alone in an area like that. Women are not safe anywhere, and while Australia is a relatively safe country, you need to always be situationally aware of your surroundings. Being so familiar with an area makes you too comfortable and relaxed, instead of even watching for any unusual bird movement which can indicate that someone is lurking. I feel so sad for her family losing their mum. At least they know and that the alleged perpetrator has been arrested. Peace and love to you Samantha, so many hearts are with your family and friends.
How about a hit man? Her partner (or someone) hired a third party to take her out. I'm not saying I think that's what happened, but it would explain how someone knew to find her and be able to plan and conceal the evidence - compared to a rogue and messy madman.
Police this morning, 7/3/24, have arrested a 22 year old Ballarat man in connection with the disappearance of Samantha Murphy. The man is not connected with the family. Formal charges have not yet been filed.
Running in a secluded area all alone is probably about the worst idea ever. In an area where transients and drug addicts are common too? You need to be aware of your surroundings and going anyplace like that alone is extremely risky. Just be safe, not everyone's a nice person. Transients and drug addicts are desperate people.
Perhaps - but as the good Doctor mentioned, if it was a crime of opportunity perpetrated by one of these folks, it's unlikely they'd be organized enough to make every bit of evidence disappear.
A guy was charged with murder yesterday, stranger, 22 year old, son of a retired AFL player….. I know you need to produce content, but this is a bit early, she had kids, friends and family who might come across this. Give it a few months not a few weeks with respect to the family and friends
Too early, the story is only at 10% reveal. It is 19/3/2024 and yet police have not provide any further update to this, it is looking like there is a big iceberg in all of it. Ballarat is a small town, i also find it hard to believe it is purely stanger as everyone knows everyone. To post now really is not very good, it isnt even the beginning of this unravelling storg which i feel it could turn into a rabbit hole soon
Why do women go jogging alone in areas like this? 99% of the time things are probably going to be okay but there is story after story. After story of women getting abducted, and worse in areas like this. Across one man while you're jogging in the middle of nowhere and for that person to take advantage of the situation. Having your phone on you or a watch isn't going to help. We all like to feel independent and that we're capable of taking care of ourselves. But the fact is that when you put yourself in a situation like this something could happen. And if it does, there is going to be no one to help. Please ladies. If you do something like this take someone with you.
You're right. We tell children to walk in pairs to school; this applies to adults too. The problem is that she may not have been able to find anyone available to run with her at that time and she wanted to go on her own time schedule.

It’s a tragic and disturbing series of events with many layers. I have no doubt you would provide an interesting insight on the whole thing. Thanks in advance 🙏
Oh and I forgot to say thank you for all of your content. Apart from your excellent research and storytelling which are enough of a draw card by themselves, the hilarious puns, dry humour and alliteration quite often make my day!
Shoutout from Australia. Another interesting case here at the moment is the murder of tv presenter Jesse Baird and his partner Luke Davies by a serving police officer. It was a poorly planned premeditated murder of one person that turned into a poorly executed (excuse the pun) murder of two people. Would love to see your take on it
The extent to which the public and media can obstruct investigations shouldn’t be underestimated. The amount of click baity news articles out there about this poor woman is deplorable. I can understand why the police are becoming more tight lipped in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to respect Samantha’s family.
Don't drive because a lot of people are killed in car accidents. Don't eat an unhealthy diet or fail to exercise because heart disease, strokes, and diabetes kill a lot of people. Jogging alone doesn't seem to be nearly the deadly risk of these more common causes of death.

Careful what you put in your head.
Dry, yes?? Subtle?!! No way!! 😂
Do other people’s disturbing or horrific experiences somehow reduce your own anxiety or other neuroses? 🤔

It’s wasting police time by saying “I think, or my tarot cards said”
Still no news on her at all.
If Dr Grande ever disappeared, I wonder who on You Tube would speculate about him.
The dog was found but sadly had to be euthenized because it had been hit by a car.
You forgot about all the islands that belong to Australia such as Torres Strait Islands, Norfolk Island, Tiwi Islands etc etc
I think the theory she was attacked and thrown into a mine shaft was best explanation for electronic devices off.
Sadly I feel she fell in a deep shaft as well they are deep and may have water in them hope she is found
@@joannewilson1483 I agree with you.
I believe her things were placed into a faraday bag- by her or someone else
I thought your answer was clever but far fetched. Then I found out these faraday bags are for sale on Amazon.
I was wondering how her phone would get disabled if no one but her knew the phone code. I see a faraday bag solves the problem. @@mkayokay3192

If your going to plead Not GUILTY ...You do not want a body..
Yesterday in Victoria Australia, a 22 year old has been arrested for her murder. He will not say where the body is.

I think you may be speculating..
Paranoid speculation. Your getting off it
Police this morning, 7/3/24, have arrested a 22 year old Ballarat man in connection with the disappearance of Samantha Murphy.
So many probabilities 🦘🔮. Great analysis & questions for us, you always make so much sense. Thanks Dr G😊💘💘

The fact that I did a 13 mile fun run alone yesterday is CHILLING.
It is most likely the only place she can run that long! Mo was another place close to her. She was training for a marathon.
P.S: I am just guessing not analysing anyone!
Talk to the hand!🤚

I often travel, run and hike alone, I know violence from men is always a risk but most women are murdered by their partners so letting the fear of men stop you from enjoying life outside won’t keep you safe.

Dr Grande, I would as I’m sure many others, like to hear your thoughts on another case happening at the moment here in Australia - that of Jesse Baird and Luke Davies and their alleged murderer Beau Lemarre Condon.
Would love to see your take on it
I do try my best to limit my own speculations about situations like this.
Thank you for your example Dr Grande.
This happened only 45 minutes away from me, she's near my age, with children my age. Very close to home, hoping her family get answers soon ❤
The extent to which the public and media can obstruct investigations shouldn’t be underestimated. The amount of click baity news articles out there about this poor woman is deplorable. I can understand why the police are becoming more tight lipped in order to maintain the integrity of the investigation and to respect Samantha’s family.
Some people have even been stalking/ messaging her family, like they aren’t already going through enough!
Don't jog alone in isolated places! A lot of people in the USA go missing, or get injured, while jogging or walking alone too.
I hear about it all the time on those hiking/camping horror stories channels!
Don't drive because a lot of people are killed in car accidents. Don't eat an unhealthy diet or fail to exercise because heart disease, strokes, and diabetes kill a lot of people. Jogging alone doesn't seem to be nearly the deadly risk of these more common causes of death.

@@Hatbox948 If SA means that I understand statistics, you are correct.
I can't imagine being attacked and killed while alone by a stranger could even compare to any of those other ways of dying🙄🙄
