    I was using ROC retinol and recently switched to Avene’s RetinAL eye cream. I’ve noticed so much of a difference in about 6 weeks with it! When I’m out of all of my retinol products, I’m going to the full face of RetinAL by Avene. I’m loving their products! My dermatologist recommended them since I can’t afford Skinceuticals until I start working again.

    What are the points of conversion though? What activates them? Does that happen automatically in the skin as it's absorbed? Is another ingredient/product needed? If so is that ingredient automatically in the retinal product?

    • @vickiebenson7980
      @vickiebenson7980 Před 11 měsíci +167

      It happens automatically. Your body will always attempt to break down compounds into their simplest forms before they can be utilized. It's kinda like how starch is broken down into glucose first before it is utilized by your cells.

      I can tell you this. Since it needs to be converted, and by the time it actually has been so when on skin, it's pretty useless. Vitamin A is sensitive for daylight, and if in need to be on skin for an amount of time before getting active, it has lost most of it's potential.

      @sarahcameron4480 Před 11 měsíci

      I was also confused by this so just did some research, essentially once you’ve applied it to your skin your body does the work of conversion! If you’re interested in a more scientific explanation here’s a more simple one:
      “First, retinol is oxidised to form retinal. Then retinal is oxidised to generate retinoic acid, which binds to retinoid receptors of skin cells-a step necessary to allow it to enter the nucleus and bind with DNA. It is the action of retinoic acid on the DNA that accounts for all the biological effects on the skin.” So the oxidisation happens after application with oxygen exposure then it is absorbed into the skin and binds the the relevant receptors in your skin cells (which then send your body instructions, in this case about cell turnover and cell health!)
      Hope that helps! Here’s the link if you want to read more :))

      @@Meowhappieit’s actually gentler on the skin and is one step closer to Retinoic acid, the version skin actually uses. Tretinoin is the Rx version of Retinoic acid, but can be very inflammatory, irritating and lead to erythema (redness), flaking, and dryness.

    I use something called Granactive retinoid. Where does that fall in this spectrum?

    Basically go to your dermatologist and get the prescription for the real deal...tretinoin (active form). Its cheaper and immediately effective.

    After viewing your videos, I'm feeling a bit apprehensive. I recently acquired a retinAl eye serum, and since my skin tends to be very sensitive (it's almost red but not quite rosacea) and is extremely dry to the point of almost peeling, I'm concerned. Now that I'm 30, I believe it's crucial to incorporate retinol into my skincare regimen, and this is my first time trying it out. However, I accidentally purchased retinAl instead of retinOl. My question is, will this be alright? Could it potentially make my skin drier over time or cause other issues? I haven't experienced any discomfort or sensitivity from using it so far.

    I am using the cleanser, cosrx peptide, cosrx essence, mediheal collagen + retinol toner pad and last cosrx all in one cream at night. Questions 1. Is that enough retinol? 2. Am I layering on too much product? 3.can the toner pads cause fungal acne?

      You’re thinking of retinyl* palmitate. Retinal is short for retinaldehyde is a different thing :)
