ACE Series IX Cabcar returns for more testing

- Back by popular demand, ACE is back to testing their new coach cars and cabcar. ACEX 3312 ventures out to the mainline after quite the long hiatus. ACE (Altamont Corridor Express) experienced quite the list of problems when it came to its new train cars, from PTC, paint work, onboard systems and more. Originally planned to enter service in Fall of 2022, the new CEM Series IX cabcar and coaches are put to more testing to soon enter service. When? The world may never know….BUT the commuter rail has mentioned it will try its best to have 1 set this year. Guaranteed? We’ll soon see later on down the tracks.
February 3rd, 2024, Arriving into Livermore station from Stockton is F40PH-3c 3104, ACEX 3104 with 6 total cars in tow. Under the callsign "ACE SP2" or "ACE Special Train", Cabcar 3312 honks its goofy sounding K5CA-LS horn as it departs Livermore. Later catching the ACE special speeding by farmland in Tracy to slamming the Stockton Diamond as it returns from a successful test run.

Cool how they used an F40PH and not a Charger for this, with us getting to see them using the older generation of Locomotives with the brand new Coaches. Makes the F40s look like they still got quite some life left in them, even if only 4 out of 6 still remain.
F40PH will never die. ❤
Wish we still had them down here in San Diego, but at least they’re saving a couple!

this is the first ever commuter rail in California to get these cars, glad Ace made the right choice of getting these and not some other cars
I believe this will be the first commuter rail with both an IX Series Cabcar and an SC-44

@@keatontheloyalnarwhal2197but ACE got them first, that’s why it was the first commuter rail to use both sc44 and series ix cars.
Even Coaster is now in the process of getting a few of these, but I’m still ready to see them run on ACE. Hopefully weekend service for ACE can return when these start service. This however does get me wondering on why Metrolink or Tri-Rail now didn’t plan on purchasing these coaches aside from the Hyundai Rotems they still have.
It’s very possible Metrolink could get those, or even borrow them from Coaster in the foreseeable future.

because the series ix cars came out in 2016 and Metrolink needed to replace the cabcars in 2010 so they bought rotems it was the first CEM cab car to enter the US market I think
those cab cars looks better than the old one love it.

that’s how they arrived when ace repainted their bbl cars in 2020 or 2022, they will add them maybe a month after service or when they enter service

The Ace SC 44 charger train locomotives 🚂 are my favorite train 🚂 locomotives because I like the designs colors and train 🚂 locomotives itselfs i wish they were going to Sacramento it would have been nice I'm glad it going to Stockton but i wish it was going to Oakland East Bay it would have been fantastic

I would replace that thing with an old cast p5 (that is, if I had one) which would’ve sounded 10x better in my opinion.

Nice footage, just realized the F40 loco on that train has the same sounding Prime Mover as NZ's DFB / DFT class locomotives!
I'm probably the only person in the entire universe who thinks this, but I think the K5CA's on these cab cars sound alright. They're definitely better than the godawful european honkers that Caltrain's Stadler trainsets and the New Acelas have.
Does Alstom still manufacture these? Not sure since I believe most of these purchases were made before the Bombardier acquisition.
Alstom has kept most of Bombardier's product line, especially for North American & European markets. As well as added in some new ones as well, like the Adessia product platform.
I think those cars are under the Adessia product line now.

I'm not really a big fan of new cab cars because you can't move between them if they are coupled in the middle, and they look pretty boring

That is a Nathan K5CA-LS air horn. It’s commonly used on Canadian passenger trains like GO Transit. And if you ask me, it sounds so wrong in so many ways.

I'm surprised these have Canadian horns. GO Transit and VIA Rail equipment have horns that sound three chimes normally, but can sound five chimes in an emergency.

the California cars aren’t single level, they have 2 levels, the only Amtrak California that has one level coaches + California cars is San Joaquins, they have venture and California cars

They must also be Series IX cars which have yet to be painted.
ACE usually doesn’t letter new cars when they are testing, they will add them a month of a year after service

Im not a fan of these, considering im a GO Railfan that has suffered with the OG CEM cab cars from as early as 2013-14. But hey ACE got something new.

because Alston has to put them on these cab cars, I don’t know why but they could’ve at least changed the horn when they arrived here in California

I could genuinely deal with these cabs if they didn't have the God awful horns that the Canadian government mandates on their passenger trains.
I hope that's not it's final paint job, the grey looks atrocious, it's just as nasty as Phase V.

I do and almost everyone likes these cars, they literally look exactly like the regular bombardier coaches, the only thing that’s different is the front of the cab and they don’t have the flat sides on the top edge of the cars
