I guess they saw the multitude of men hating their wives, women hating their husband, and dad left to buy milk jokes. And so they thought “ohh clearly mothers must hate their children too!”.
Genuinely unsure if fathers hating their kids jokes are a big thing or something. I know that the man hating their wives jokes tend to outnumber the gender swapped version, so maybe it’s more “acceptable” but I kinda doubt it. I feel like it’s a good way to offend parents, esp those watching a kids channel with their kids.

I think this is just viacom trying to mimic the success of other companies as usual. This is just them creating a nick version of adult swim without knowing what made adult swim work. Adult swim was always buffered by more tame shows, like the first shows they air each night are king of the hill or Futurama, shows that if a kid turned on cartoon Network a bit after their bedtime wouldn't be that big of a deal. These are shows aimed at adults but aren't really that offensive in the grand scheme of things. It wouldn't be until later in the night that they air shows like moral oral or Mr pickles or super jail or metalopocalypse, near or after midnight. Then they switch back to king of the hill early in the morning before cartoon Network comes back on. Toonami also helped since they were mostly shonens in the same time slot. Kids can watch bleach or inuasha or fairy tale and it isn't a problem. Going from blues clues straight to something like the boondocks is such a tonal shift that it's no surprise it failed.

10PM-2AM. Originally, it was that time ONLY on the East Coast (so California would have it 7-11PM, and you can figure out other time zones based on that) but towards the end of its existence, they did have a West and East feed, so that worked out. I remember seeing this from 2014-15, when I was 10/11. (I had a different type of childhood that wasn't as "deep" as other kids' childhood was during the 2010s, so I basically watched Nick Jr until 2016, around 12 years old, even though most kids of that age would watch regular Nickelodeon or TeenNick, and I didn't have as great of a childhood as I wished for, I wasn't really "allowed" to be a kid 😭) I'm 20 now, and I vividly remember this. For a kid, 10PM is really late, but now that I'm an adult, 10PM is late to me but not CRAZY late (I would say that would be 1-5AM as a 20 year old), but why this didn't get its own channel is beyond me. This channel was boomers trying to understand Millenials/Gen X, and it failed MISERABLY!

I think a big issue is that they assumed every child is your normal student. Not every child was in bed by 9. Like that one woman’s example of her child being home sick from school and watching tv in the evening after sleeping all day. I was homeschooled and was practically nocturnal as my mother worked the night shift. We’d wake up in the evening when she did and we’d do our school work while she was working her shift and we’d all go to bed around the same time just before sunrise. Then on her days off, she was still on her night shift sleep schedule so we’d stay up with her and play video games and such.

If I saw a program block called NickMom on a channel called Nick Jr., I would assume it was something more educational, like tips for parents of young children or something like the old Nick at Nite with PG-rated sitcoms for the parents to decompress from all of the kiddie shows, not middle aged single moms talking about their pussies and being sexual predators. That's something more suited for Comedy Central or MTV's late night programming, not a channel for preschool children.

Not to "split hairs," but is 9:00 really that late? and who was this for? did Mom's tune into Nickelodeon at 9:00 to unwind?? idk, maybe I'm wrong, but this didn't just seem irresponsible, it seemed like an idea to establish a late night audience that wasn't thought through and just went wrong.

Soccer moms have Nick Jr on the screen all day and send their kids to sleep and then this block comes up and they watch some mediocre shows while they drink wine. But the problem is... they sorely underestimated kids and them constantly staying up all the time. The fact that moms are complaining about this proves it. You have a show where comedians is joking about their genitals and getting knocked up. Just have Nick Jr in heavy rotation. If you want Nick Adult Swim just make a whole new channel. When NickMom initially started airing, a major problem they had was the Nick Jr channel at the time had just one feed, the East Coast feed. That meant for those living in California or Hawaii, then NickMom's programming started MUCH earlier! This was the same problem Noggin had when it shared the channel with the teen block The N until The N became its own channel with TEENick content in 2007 and then it became TeenNick in 2009. This issue with Nick Jr having a single East Coast feed was rectified in 2013 but of course, that wasn't enough to save the block. I think the reason they chose to put the block on Nick Jr was to save money from having to create another channel slot for it, but if they created another channel for it, NickMom probably would've lasted longer. Or instead created a mini-block for NickMom within the NickAtNite block on Nickelodeon. When Noggin ended for the day, they gave parents and children plenty of time to turn off the channel with Moose A Moose singing a goodnight song and a 60-second countdown clock to The N.
Another Nick thing that no longer exists is Nick GaS or Nick Games and Sports for Kids. The channel launched in 1999 and this was where Nick decided to dump all of its classic game shows once they were removed from the main network. It also produced its own original programming, such as Play to Z, Gamefarm and Splash TV. From October 2005 onwards, the network's programming was fully automated, putting seven shows on a permanent timeslot (GUTS, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Figure It Out, Get the Picture, Double Dare 2000, Nick Arcade and Finders Keepers) and regular segments. In September 2006, Finders Keepers was removed from the network, leaving only six shows on the channel in its last years. On August 13, 2007, Viacom announced that it would shut down and replaced by The N. For most providers, the channel shut on December 31st of that year but for Dish Network, it continued as an automated loop for 15 more months and finally replaced in April 2009 by the Pacific feed of Cartoon Network.

But what they did was have two sign off messages to clearly hammer in that kids should leave to leave. First, the mascots (Moose and Zee) would sing a goodbye song, and then a more ominous message would appear afterwards with a countdown timer for the parents. Nickelodeon missed the point of why Adult Swim and Nick@Nite worked as adult programming blocks when they created NickMom. Both Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon's demographic is mostly older children, while Adult Swim and Nick@Nite's demographics are teenagers and adults. Nick Jr has a preschool demographic, and NickMom has an adult demographic, so that's a huge gap for demographics right there. Also, with Adult Swim when they start they usually start with something mild and TV-PG like King of the Hill and Bob's Burgers most recently, it starts with Old Cartoon Network shows with the Checkered Past block and gets to the more mature stuff late at night. It also has multiple warnings and effectively discourage young kids from watching. Also Adult Swim nor Nick@Nite had the same kids are annoying joke every seconds and they both have a lineup of great shows. NickMom, doesn't it talks about how kids are the worst or something like that. A block that did work was The N now known as TeenNick it was on Noggin from 6PM to 6AM with shows with mild cursing and adult humor at times but nothing to bad and was usually TV-14 at most. But it didn't make fun of children constantly and again the demographics were not far off. Noggin for preschoolers and The N for teenagers. NickMom also has such vulgar stuff on there that it should not have been on Nick Jr at all. They could have just aired those shows on Comdey Central instead it is already meant for adults

I remember when nick moms was first announced. I was tiny and the last Nick Jr message before it came on was, “That’s all for today, goodnight!” or something like that. And an preview for nick moms came on and I think I just switched the channel to Disney Jr or my Mom turned the TV off and tucked me in bed

I distinctly remember when this broadcast aired because I was at the prime age for the NickJr audience.
The cartoons would shut off and the moms started talking about stuff I had no idea about. I tried convincing my own mom to watch the show ‘cause little me assumed she’d like it. But obviously since she’s a conscious adult, she never watched the show with me.
Over 10 years later I finally found out what they were talking about and Jesus Christ how did they allow this? At least [adult swim] eased in their more tame shows (i.e. King of the Hill) when switching from Cartoon Network. But NickMom is like if CN played Teen Titans Go, then Rick and Morty began playing with no signature [as] interruption.
And I know little kids are meant to be asleep by around 9pm, I for sure knew ‘cause that was my bedtime until I was 14 when quarantine hit. But some parents are a little more lenient and may allow their kids an hour extra before bed. One minute you’d be watching 4 teenagers managing a band while drinking smoothies, then moms start talking about being violated.

The NickMom thing is unique in terms of the stereotypical “parents complain about kids seeing something that they shouldn’t be putting on for their kids in the first place” in that the thing they’re complaining about is literally marketing directly to them lmao

This is the type of stuff Nick needs to be sued for. Young kids being exposed to adult humor is NOT something they should see on a program made for young kids! It is absolutely ridiculous, one of the worst decisions ever made. I hope that Nickmom gets taken down right away.

I feel like it migthve lived longer on actual Nick at Nite than Nick Jr. like even if its a time capsule of bad jokes and stereotypes, I feel like putting it on Nick Jr was the worst mistake they have done. While maybe it wouldn't have lived long on the sister block, it's better than nothing.

On one hand I feel like the "this should be on a channel separate from kids content" could also be made with Adult Swim, but on the other hand at least the AS block starts with tamer shows like King of the Hill and Bob's Burgers. But I really don’t know tbh

Around this time there was this 'trend' (If you can call it that) where it was comedy made for moms that sold itself as "We can be as gross & edgy as male comedy!" but never pushed the edge for fear of offending.

really this just makes me think of adult swim and how sometimes i would wake up in the middle of the night or stay up late and catch it on cartoon network. definitely heard a lot of things i shouldnt have on shows like robot chicken... but i do look back on it fondly, though my mother might not.

The difference between AS and NickMom is that at least AS starts out with tamer shows (and it has much better content too).

Funny that I actually remember this only because I had a little sister who grew up on Nick Jr back when they had Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi… I remember for New Years ‘14, they took a random ball drop from some year (not even in the 2010s) and pasted 14 over the original numbers in pink text
