Pakistan Needs New Direction, New Ideas: Prof Ishtiaq Ahmed |

  • They say the more things change in Pakistan, the more they remain the same. A new government is in charge with a prime minister who is a known friend of the army. But the thing with the army’s friends is, they don’t stay friends for too long. So while Shahbaz Sharif is prime minister, nobody is really sure how long he could last.
Prof Ishtiaq Ahmed, Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Stockholm University, told The Gist that the immediate challenge for the government is the crushing national debt. While an IMF loan of over $1 billion has been agreed upon, the government wants $8 billion and that’s a big question mark.
But Prof Ahmed believes nobody has any idea how to get Pakistan out of the financial mess that is the product of years of mis-mangement.
“You can’t manage an economy if you subordinate everything to a perceived threat to Pakistan’s existence from primarily India. So spending money on arms has been devastating for Pakistan.”
Prof Ahmed argues that the army can keep the forces of separatism in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at bay. Even grievances in Sind can be managed, he says, and with Chinese backing, the ship of state will continue to sail. But important to note that the Saudis and the Americans are no longer as committed to Islamabad as in the past.
Ideally, he said, Pakistan should open the doors to trade with India. “This whole notion of first settling the Kashmir dispute and the way Pakistan wants it, will not provide a breakthrough.”
He regretted that Pakistan’s problem since its early years was that much of the aid coming into the country went to the army. The situation hasn’t changed in that the army dominates key sectors of the economy through various entities such as the Fauji Foundation or the National Logistics Cell. These occupy the place that private enterprises can do efficiently and profitably.

In Pakistan, the politicians & military generals in power are not interested in normal relations with India who always tried to destabilize India by pushing trained terrorised to launch proxy war. In the past, Pakistani rulers fought several wars with India which instigated by America with gifted arms which caused irreparable damage to Pakistani economy. The constant firing on Indian Borders by Pakistani Rangers to create unnecessary tensions. This all is happening due to corrupt & greedy Pakistani rulers who are stealing all resources of that country & are settling in foreign heavens to enjoy life while poor Pakistani are struggling for food, shelter & housing. So there is no normalisation of relations by any means till all foreign based politicians & generals are kicked out of Pakistan. Imran khan was responsible for suspension of trade with India which resulted in serious shortage of foods & other daily use materials. Now PAKISTANI FOREIGN MINISTER SHOWED EAGERNESS FOR TRADE WITH INDIA. But this is only possible provided Pakistan stops all subversive activities & hands over Pakistani terrorists to India who were responsible for massive attacks in India. Only then the normal trade relations cannot be restored. Pakistan must think deeply as why India has friendly relations with almost all Muslim countries of the world except Pakistan. The reason is top Pakistani Politicians & Military Generals who have vested interests for personal greed who are spoiling relations with neighbor by harping Kashmir issue & pushing trained terrorists in India for destructive activities. All these facts must be critically examined by the public & all anti-national leaders of Pakistan should be thrown out of the country. Only then Pakistan can think of good neighbourly relations.

During the British times, Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan, the PM of united Punjab (those days a CM used to be called PM), worked for Punjabiyat (Punjabi identity) & was nursed his province with love & dedication far above any religious notions . Md. Ali Jinnah tried hard to convince him, to be the heart of Pakistan movement. Hayat Khan resisted for long, but ultimately voted for the concept & joined Jinnah. Then after there was no turning back on that idea & it became a reality.
I kept wondering all these decades as to what made Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan, do a turn-around an a "principle"! After 7 decades his grand plan is unraveling as I see it. If (undivided)Punjab was to be in India, it would be another mere state/ province in India, while Punjab could dominate Pakistan, reducing all other provinces/states to the level of chattel. The only stumbling block was Bengali demographic dominance & it was done away with in 1971. Punjab is the ruling class now, while the other three are hewers of wood & drawers of water. Punjab never had it so good, with the whole country for herself that it would give up at no cost. Punjab's position is like that of "Serbia" (an ultra irridentist country) in Yugoslavia.

The concept of Pakistan harbors significant internal flaws that render it an unviable entity. Ghantaa.
Indians always knew who and what Jinnah was and what he did. Only Congressiyas saved MA JInnahs ass because he was a Congressiya as well. 2 Congressiyahs divided India whereas CON-Goons pointed to patriot VD Savarkar and at time VB Patel for it. This thug under garb of Professor also does same at times and often speak lies and unsubstantiated versions on Kashmir and Hyderabad.
His mediocre books are best suitable for his fellow Pakistani Muslims who are infatuated with MA Jinaah due to their version of history.

    1. Ban all Madrassas in Pakistan and dissect state, religion and individuality. This is the no. 1 thing which will take Pakistan to re-invent, re integrate in India and Central Asian economy .
    2. Destroy Multi generation state backed hate against India and especially Hindus.
    3. Reinvent Islam as what MBS doing in Saudi.

Given a chance a Muslim will always try and find false equivalency like 1 Muslim killed = same as 100 Hindus killed and will justify the later. They even justify hundreds of temple destruction on Babri masjid even though those temples were destroyed even before Babri was destroyed. These people are liars and hate Hindus. This hate makes them not admit their mistakes, but employ deception, and dishonesty to cover them up without shame.

Admiring Gandhi, Nehru and Patel will rile BJP followers. Though, it seems strange Patel was embraced by BJP who had banned RSS.
As for Pakistan, only economic pressure will bring military to heel and by giving aid, the military gets things it wants. The solution remains elusive for aid givers if they should or should not give any aid. If IMF etc don’t give aid, truck loads of people start fleeing Pakistan driven out of it due to poverty to seek refuge . They aim to go to mainly in Europe or in West. Strangely, none of these people want to leave Pakistan for China or some other Muslim country to settle down otherwise big Central Asian countries, Middle Eastern Saudi , North African countries like Algeria, Libya, Egypt are available but those fleeing always want to reach West, the very kuffre they curse but also love to bomb too.
