Great thing to check! Quick note about the 4Runner in case anyone is interested... a 275/70/17 will fit underneath but it's extremely tight like you showed here, Chloe.
If it’s a fifth gen 4Runner 285/70/17 will also fit as i have that for my spare
That's the cleanest garage floor i've seen
Thanks for this video. You answered all my questions and concerns about replacing the oem spare.
Another timely and useful video. Great info. Thank you.
Great video Chloe 👍. It's good to see Cody 🐕 back supervising the job 😃. ❤🌮🐶🐾
I am running the 265/70/17 Nittos on my Taco with matching spare. Like you no fitment issues. The one thing I do and I understand if you do a lot of real off roading (you may not want to do this) is flip the spare over with the valve stem down and toward the back of the truck so i can easily slide under a check the air pressure and air up if need be. I use my truck mostly for hunting on our property and hauling materials so less chance of damaging the valve stem. Nice comparison of different sizes mounted in the stock spare location.
I’m putting a 285 spare on my truck now!! Thanks for the video!
Im here cause your positive attitude and ideas satisfy me😊
my favourite diy person😊
Thanks for another great video. I have 700 series Method wheels with KO2 285/70R17 and haven't addressed the spare yet. So, this was very timely and looks like my next project.
Planning to upgrade my Tacoma stock wheels to a 275/70/17 very soon, and just a few days ago was wondering about the fitment for the spare. Perfect timing!
Great video Chloe!!! I’m running 285/70/17 and wasn’t sure if it fit as a speed tire 👍🏼
Great video Chloe. I'll be putting some Method wheels on my 24 TRD Sport premium in the next month or two. I should have put some on my 21 Limited.
My 265/70/17 Toyo wasn't fitting in the spare tire spot. Had to take a sledgehammer to the "brackets" that help align the spare. It's still not sitting all the way up, so I'll need to cut one off at some point.
And for the newbies... Be careful with that rod next to your tailgate. Very easy to slip and chip or dent the bottom edge of the tailgate.
Seen your Ebay Motors ad Nice job
Just a friendly tip for the future. When using the spare tire tools, you only need two of the three long pieces. The third is so you can reach under the truck when jacking. The process of lowering the tire would be much quicker if you only used 2 pieces because you wouldn’t have to let go and re-grab the wrench every half turn.
The hook piece that goes into the tire crank ends with a male end I believe. Then you need the female to male piece which goes over the first piece. The wrench should fit over the male end of the second piece.
You can fit a 34" (285/75R17), 11.5" wide. (1) Let air out to about 10 PSI. (2) Get a second person to help you. (3) One person needs to be underneath to guide tire by pushing it towards rear of car/tow hitch. (4) Second person cranks up the tire. All done! Extras that will help is to hammer or open some of the upper thongs keeping the tire in place, or splice them to open them up, and re-weld. Also, get a roll of exhaust wrap and wrap it on exhaust pipe, about 2' section where tire comes close to exhaust pipe. I did reposition the mounting rod that holds the exhaust to the frame, near the tire, and I got way more space, now. All sits beautifully. Hate having to buy an exterior mounting hitches for tires. Plus it raises up the center of gravity making the truck prone to un-balancing. Keep all weight low as possible! Cheers!
I was told by a guy that taught for Goodyear said that no matter what brand tire you use always by 5 and same with rims cause BF Goodrich 31” tall tire my be slightly smaller or taller than say a 31” tire from Goodyear or any other tire brand. So if you use the spare and it’s a Goodyear and you are running BF Goodrich tires that half inch or so can throw off your 4X4 on the truck I did experience this on my Ranger had BFGs and had to run the stock spare and I had that issue with 4 wheel drive. Very good video Chloe
I'm able to fit 33x12.50x17 in my spare by relocating the hoist forward and tapping the brackets out about an inch..with about 1/4 inch space from the exhaust..fits perfectly!
Another good Tacoma mod video. Did you also have a tpms sensor installed in the spare.
When I got new tires on my suv, I kept one tire that has a good 10k miles of tread left and got a wheel for a full size spare and got rid of the donut
I always (if i can) ipgrade to a full size spare. My lil bros honda fit has a full size and while my scion im couldn't but my xb can and does. Also happily thr rav4 hybrid also fits a fill size.
thanks Chloe, just got a OTT from Paul
Great video 👍
Hello from Texas 🤠 great info
I have stoc 225 17 65 on my rav4. It’s working fine on the street pot holder
Great video. What would be cool if you can get an attachment that allows the use of a cordless drill or impact to raise and lower the tire. Just a thought.
Your jack handle goes on the end of the shaft to raise and lower the spare.😁
I've placed a exhaust manifold reflective wrap on the tire where it's closest to the exhaust pipe, just peel it off the spare tire when needed.
255/85/16 on oem offroad rim CAN fit if you relocate the hoist, which is easy to do.
Also my exhaust is chopped so it is above the frame.
Please 🙏🏻 do content on your Land Cruiser ❤
Great Video. When going off-road/over-landing having the spare underneath is not the best idea. You should have it easily accessible. If your truck is stuck for some reason getting your spare won’t be easy when it’s underneath.
I had to trim one of the bracket doesn’t matter which one fit perfect. Prime and paint black so no issues. I want from Brevard to UP Michigan little over 5,000 miles. Got to cabin let tire down to see if I could find rub marks all good. I was not putting a spear in the bed.
Hi Chloe, is any other tire that you would recommend for your truck? Or what do think of Goodyear ultraterrain AT?
In the rust belt we usually have to take it out and either mount it in the bed covered or take it out completely because it just corrodes from the salt. However good test to help people with questions.
Can you install it with the valve stem pointed down so you can check air pressure and add air if needed?
Is there an adapter for to use an impact wrench for the lift tool? That would be a real time saver.
Great info! Thanks 😀✌
yo, i just put 275/50/22 tires on my tacoma. lol had to get a 3 inch front lift and 2 inch back lift to get it to fit without rubbing.
Question will 245/7517 fit for a sr5 3rd gen tacoma and do I have to adjust anything I'm thinking about upgrading mine
My 285/70/17 fits just fine.
U crack me up!!!
Heat from muffler? Will damage to rubber on tire, cracking, stiffness, and discoloration?
i hang out with a bunch of lug nuts. 🤣. have a good day boss.
What brand hand tools do you buy?
I flipped mine around so I can check the air pressure without taking the spare down. I suppose the valve stem is a little exposed to danger but if you position that closest to the front of the vehicle it's very unlikely to get hit by a rock.
Your attire seems too good & clean to be working on trucks/laying on the ground.:) I'm watching the vid right now and wonder if the larger tire will fit in the spare tire area.
Hopefully you are safe in San Diego right now!
When’s the Gym fitness channel
coming, It would be a lot of good content.
Not sure you needed the extension.
My truck is not lifted and the tires are stock/rims are stock till they wear out then im going bigger but the factory jack wouldnt lift my truck up at all when i got my flat so good advice with the jack idea
A couple of pieces of wood 2 x 6” under and/or over the jack can do the trick and be a lot lighter than bringing a whole 1.5 ton jack. Can also be used to be put under the wheels in a jam.
Whats the best tire to run if i do alot highway driving ? I plan on getting a new set of wheels and tires
I would check out an all season tire. I like BFG trail terrains!
@@ChloeKuo Thanks chloe I appreciate it .
Lastly, what happened with your axle/bearing issue?
There is a way to hook up the “key” so that when you spin that tool part of the bar is not in the wat
That truck wheel you slided is literally heavier than you 😅
Not a 33” if you have a awe exhaust setup going out the back.
Thats why mine is in the back of the truck.
she's so simply awesome, Chloe what would it take to swap out that 5-foot bed with a 6-foot bed. hey here's a fun project for you., paint your garage in Toyota colors bottom half gray, red strip then white upper. after all your garage is a dealership shop. when does your career start with Toyota? you are an engineer.
So many people place the spare tire with the valve stem facing to toward the frame and bed including Toyota.🤔 Best If you face it down so you can check the tire presser.🤓 having a correct inflation for when you need it is important.😰 finding your spare flat is a bummer.🥺
Uh, that's what her compressor is for and I suppose the plugs too if it didn't hold air.
Depending on the design of the wheel you have to do it that way. The bracket that holds the wheel needs to sit flat.
❤❤❤❤😘😘❤❤❤❤❤❤
Easier to repair a small puncture than removing that spare
I keep a drill in my truck just to lift the spare
i would rather abandon the truck on the side of the road than change this tire😂
Method wheels are made in china it’s a pass for me but awesome video.
All your videos are just ads. Which is just pretty much all youtubers now.
