Makita seems like a top brand for yard equipment, not just shop tools. Batteries today from Makita are hella expensive, but they are true Japanese protected cells, which matters. I have quality gas equipment, but I'm trying to get away from it, their heavy, their loud, their expensive to maintain, gas costs keep going up, and exhaust fumes are getting to me. I do semi-commercial, just a few yards plus my own. From what I can tell, the new 40V XTG line are professional grade tools, that are built even better, and do have a variable speed trigger throttle, as well as the 3-speeds and AUTO. I'm going to join Makita as a customer, stepping foot forward, straight into the 40V XTG line. I figure a 2 4AH batteries should help get me started.

I bought a new black max mower & I think I'm going with a gas blower as well. I am a diy-er and you've really given me an honest look at how to do thing and how things work. Warren

Swap out the spool with the famous Echo Speed Feed immediately! We'll worth the $30. Keep in mind Makita now has a multi-tool version with the motor in the rear like a gas trimmer. Not sure which one performs better.

I bought the one with variable speed throttle. I trim 10 acres and variable speed really extends battery life. It is much better than my echo gas. To replace gas lawn mower you really need a better battery platform such as the xgt platform. USA is the last market they release tools into. So it might be a wait. Other brand have decent powered mowers.

I have a 40V Makita Pole saw and it is Awesome just a fixed 8 ft it’s all I need for what I needed it for …. If you need one I would recommend it has a lot of power for a Battery saw

Looking to add maybe the 40v sting trimmer at some point to use with my batteries so they get more use …. The Makita 40v planner is an angry beavers on steroids neats all other planners on the market by far

Well they've replaced the 18vX2 platform with one 40v battery. In my opinion serious landscaping gear for needs 56v or more if you're trying to cut it thick growth.
