Actually, the video you linked is an old animation from the original movie/project. Otherwhise, Yzma wouldn't look so different in comparison to how she is.
The plot of the movie gone from a woman trying to block the Sun to stay young forever to an emperor turning into a llama. Can't you see the obvious relation?
So Yzma was basically gonna be a reverse Mother Gothel. EDIT: Looking at the comments, I probably should've elaborated on my logic. Simply put, Gothel wants to keep her youth via hoarding sun magic, while Yzma wants to keep her youth via destroying the sun.
Yes. But she seemed to be more extreme. While Gothel simply stole a child and kept her in a tower for years, Yzma was going to summon Supai, the Incan god of death, to destroy the sun, plunging the world into an eternal night, and also wanted to commit regicide. So basically Gothel mixed with Scar and Nightmare Moon.
I'm conflicted about the final cut.On one hand I would have LOVED to hear this song in the movie. On the other, I like Yzma's character in the final cut of the movie better. Because with female villains their motives are typically either "I'm after a man and this is the only way to get him." or "I wanna be young and beautiful forever/again." But in the final cut of the movie she didn't care about that. Yeah she did things to still be beautiful but her main mission was to hold supreme power of the Empire.
i never thought of that, u make a great point. maby is they swiched the lyrics a little bit it could corespond with her goals and motivations in the final cut.
+El Principe I think a subplot like this would have made the movie a little "busy", anyways, and that it wouldn't have meshed well with what the story was, or at least what it ended up being. I also agree she works better as a mad scientist more than some kind of sorcerer, and I like that she has this style of 'fashion' to her without being obsessed with her looks (or rather, without being as obsessed as she would have if they kept this subplot in). I don't think it's wrong for a female villain to want to look beautiful, I mean essentially most generically "bad" villains are doing something super vain anyways (such as wanting power, beauty, wealth, whatever) which is what makes them a villain- that they'd do villainous and evil things in the pursuit of a wholly selfish and petty desire. Of course you could still say you'd prefer a female villain to go after something less 'gender defining', such as power over a nation, but don't male villains usually care about their looks just as much? Even when it's not particularly their 'beauty', they still want to look 'good' or 'cool' or whatever. I dunno, just my thoughts. Really great movie either way.
Maybe they could have made it where she used to be very good at manipulating people with her words and looks until they eventually faded. Left with only her intelligence she wants revenge on the people who once practically worshipped and "stole" her rightful throne.
+El Principe I like this song a lot but I'm glad Emperor's New Groove is what it is. Frankly I'm sick and tired of the usual Disney musical crap that takes itself so seriously. Emperor's New Groove is the funniest Disney movie ever made and my all time favorite. I don't think I'd enjoy what they were originally going for nearly as much.
mocha 907 - All is not lost. In Disney’s 2D animation studio, they usually do music and voice before the movie is greenlit for animation by Disney. From what I understand, it was at the greenlighting process for the movie’s animation to start that Disney pulled the plug and shelved the original movie. Meaning, that the voice acting and music is already done and is gathering dust somewhere in Disney’s archives. Disney could easily take that audio and finish the movie, if they wanted to.
rufusisthe best I doubt they'd make it though. For one thing, the modern animation wouldn't match, but more importantly, releasing the movie would make Disney look bad.
So Yzmas father was basically a necromancer? Awesome, explains everything. Was Kronk originally supposed to be a zombie? Kuzco calls him something like "this season's model is Kronk" and "so he's like, what, mid thirties?" and her response is "...I'm not sure."
If I’m not mistaken, her assistants would’ve been 3 reanimated mummies named after aging musicians- Mick, Bowie, and another I can’t remember right now.
I love The Emperor's New Groove the way it is - just a really hilarious, comedic movie about selfishness and friendship. On the other hand, this song is really great and sounds so complete (lyrics, music, singing all so great) and it's such a shame it went to waste! My favorite part is how the chanting builds up at the end.
Yeah. Kuzco is amazing. (No touchy.) 😂 I still wanted to see what will happen with this plot, in other movie, idk. And this song... It has to be recognized. Is fucking amazing.
I love how this song was so catchy and awesome that not even Disney producers could bear to let it go to waste, including it on the Emperor’s New Groove soundtrack CD despite the song being nowhere in the film or having anything to do with its final plot. Major props to them for not just throwing it away into the Disney Vault for it to be lost for several decades.
If you think about it, Tangled is kind of like what the Kingdom of the Sun would've been like in conjunction with The Emperor's New Groove. Both feature villains that would do anything to maintain youth and have an association with the sun. Corona is basically the kingdom of the sun, based on its flag and how the Queen's life was saved. That and that both movies tried being dark and funny at the same time. They're not identical, obviously, but it's a funny comparison to make. :P
Zachary Lahana well actually in the finished movie yzma just wanted the throne and she turned kuzco to do this and she tried doing the same thing throughout the tv series except with different animals
Damn, never thought of it that way! I was just thinking the other day how if they were to do a live action remake of The Emperor's New Groove, they'd really be telling Kingdom of the Sun instead, but they'll still keep the funny moments from the final cut and keep the movie dark.
I dunno, New Groove is way different than the finished product, maybe one day they'll tweak the original a bit more to get it away from New Groove and make it
Since this song was going to be part of The Emperor's New Groove's original version Kingdom of the Sun, I would love to see what the musical sequence of this song would of been like.
Let's see; Ursula got Poor Unfortunate Souls, Gaston got Gaston and the Mob Song, Dr. Facilier got Friends on the Other Side, Mother Gothel got Mother Knows Best, Jafar only has a reprise, Elsa has Let It Go s d she was originally supposed to be the villain of Frozen.
This song quite literally gives a reason as to why Yzma was Kuzco's advisor, she always planned to kill him, take over the empire, and use the empire's resources to discover eternal youth, like holy shit this adds layers to the movie that I wish actually existed.
Why this song would be better in the movie: 1) has good latino music traits (such as perfect world which, btw sounds much better in spanish) 2) Inti was the incan sun god, and the main god, a villain who wants to battle the core of icnan culture, so much badder, so much loveable. 3) The incan mummies were greatly sacred, with the mummies being brought out of the home and outside when important events such as wars, rituals and weddings happened, so the royal mortician makes SO much sense now. 4) HAVE YOU SEEN THE YZMA CONCEPT ART.
+tomas dominguez omg this song would fit soo well in this world. This movie would be good whether they stuck to the original idea or the amazing new one.
Well, except that peruvian music has nothing to do with salsa or afro-antillean music, which was mostly developed in Cuba, Puerto Rico, and other caribbean islands.
This was actually a song from the original movie, The Kingdom of The Sun- but that movie turned into Emperor's New Groove. The first movie was actually going to focus on Yzma
This is amazingly good. In fact, this seems to be the best Disney villain song ever. It is not merely both scary and catchy - it is scary BECAUSE it is so catchy.
The best villain songs, I think, don't just talk about how evil the person is, they show character--no other person but that character could sing the song. And this illustrates Yzma's character perfectly. She isn't just a woman who wants political power, she wants to blot out the sun so that she can stay eternally beautiful. Now THAT is a badass villain, and no one could voice her but the late, great Eartha Kitt. RIP, Eartha. We love you.
its funny cause in the original Pacha was a girl who fell in love Kusco and got turned in to a llama meanwhile Yzma summoned the god of death to murder the fucking sun and Kusco wack
i really wish they had made two versions of the emperors new groove. i would've loved to watch the darker version to it! i don't see why they didn't make it anyway, the story was so well written and they had done a lot of work on it and it would've been a very successful movie, like the original movie was. thank you tumblr for showing me the remnants of the first plot ideas of the emperors new groove
Easy answer. They did two movies with a similar more darker story with Pocahontas and hunchback of notre dame which didn't do so well financially in the cinema. So Disney reacted and took the setting from the original movie and structured it so that it would be a comedy.
Because it wasn't deleted A whole movie was deleted, if you look at the lyrics you'll notice that has nothing to do with emperor's new groove, because this is a song about the movie "the empire of the sun" which was cancelled.
Fun Fact: In Aztec Mythology the sun and moon are brother and sister. The sun was the youngest of a few thousand siblings his brothers a sister tried to kill their mother, in retribution he chopped of their heads and threw then into the sky. Now they chase him around the sky and try to kill him.
Yeah I knew it was a joke, but I just love the original plot to kingdom of the sun and the connections to the Aztec mythos it had. For example the reason she wanted to kill the emperor originally was to sacrifice him to the moon god of darkness so she would have the power to destroy the sun, and in return she would give yzma eternal youth.
Yeah, it really only had a pre-colonial Americas aesthetic instead of any actual mythos. im surprised you know this much about it, really interesting stuff man.
Yeager That's nice dear, but I'm pretty sure Kuzko was Incan. I recall him referring to the "Incan Empire" while channel surfing. Of course, he could have been referring to the Incans as rivals for all I know.
this song SLAPS, i love Emperors New Groove so much, but i’d definitely love to hear this song in another movie, especially if the original, darker plot was kept
I love it, if it had been modified and made look better, a little change in the lyrics at times too. THIS could be an instant Disney classic. A little more of the beginning, more jazzed and better musicians and writing. Cause It is perfect as a villain song, evil, super self esteem from the character, and DAMN good STYLE! love it, royal shame it didn't get the funding it deserved
Ah Yzma....you don't really wanna destroy the sun to gain eternal youth; you need to take a trip to Germany instead. Apparently, the sun occasionally rains down a single drop of healing powers that provide eternal youth over there...
Disney hasn’t made a 2-D film since 2009. This movie’s plot, while slightly similar to its end product, is still incredibly different, and would be a fantastic way to revitalize Disney’s animation scene and to kick off the decade. Come on, Disney....
I don't even have to hear the other potential songs that could have been in this movie to know that this song (like every villain song) would have been the best one in the movie.
Autumn Caudill The way I see it, they could get an actress who sounds close enough to Eartha Kitt. That's what Dreamworks did on the TV series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. They got an actor who sounded pretty close to Jack Black.
I wish Kingdom of the Sun was finished, but I really do love "The Emperor's new groove", it just sucks that they'd never be able to make a second one, unless you count Kronk's New Groove but I was kind 'meh' about that film, I just really like the idea of Yzma being a really vain character (despite it possibly being problematic) and it sucks that Yzma's VA is dead, rest in peace Eartha Kitt
+Morgana Le´Fay Basically, rather than being the mad- scientist type she was in the final cut of the film, Yzma was more of a sorceress. As the song indicates, she hates the sun because she blames it for causing her body to age so poorly. So, her master plan is to somehow use black magic to summon a gigantic demon that would block out the sun forever. Also, as in the final cut, she still wanted to take over Kuzco's throne. They tried to make a third film, 'Yzma's New Groove,' to fit in this plot (I think largely so they could have an excuse to feature this awesome song in a movie), but that was cancelled after Eartha Kitt died. Another detail removed from the film's final cut was that Kuzco was originally going to have a love interest, a kind llama- herder who helps him when he's a llama.
You know what's funny? Blocking out the sun would have blocked out the moon as well. The moon just reflects sunlight. It's not a source of light itself.
I would have loved to see a remake, or possibly even a new movie, using this plotline. I feel like it would have had an On the Road to El Dorado vibe and I love that idea! PLEASE Disney make this a reality!
Well, if it makes you feel any better, none of the other character's had songs either. It wasn't really a musical; the only song was the introduction one sung by the little Elvis dude.
I love the emperors new groove for what it is, but my gosh it could’ve been one of the greatest Disney movies of all time if they didn’t scrap the original plot and musical
I always loooved yzmas outfits. They were so special. Only a few caracters in the history of cartoons had such a remarkable taste in fashion Btw i loved her 20s fashion
Wouln't it be great from Disney to animate a scene to this song, simply to honor Earthas amazing performance?

So Yzma was basically gonna be a reverse Mother Gothel.

Disney hasn’t made a 2-D film since 2009. This movie’s plot, while slightly similar to its end product, is still incredibly different, and would be a fantastic way to revitalize Disney’s animation scene and to kick off the decade. Come on, Disney....
Villains always get the best songs.
What I adore about the performance of this song is not just the way she pronounces each word it's her breathing. so amazing A+++ yes.
I feel robbed
I adore the movie we got, but I would love to see the original idea for the movie.
I don't even have to hear the other potential songs that could have been in this movie to know that this song (like every villain song) would have been the best one in the movie.
I'm just gonna say it; Kingdom of the Sun is the superior concept for a movie. Maybe we can petition Disney to make it or something
Justin Montana id like to see Disney do that in a live action movie. It'd be the closest thing to a live action remake of The Emperor's New Groove.
What the heck
I did like the Emeperor`s New Groove , but perhaps making a spin off in the same universe? That would be awesome
I can't see them doing it without earths kitt as Yzma
Autumn Caudill The way I see it, they could get an actress who sounds close enough to Eartha Kitt. That's what Dreamworks did on the TV series Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. They got an actor who sounded pretty close to Jack Black.
I wish Kingdom of the Sun was finished, but I really do love "The Emperor's new groove", it just sucks that they'd never be able to make a second one, unless you count Kronk's New Groove but I was kind 'meh' about that film, I just really like the idea of Yzma being a really vain character (despite it possibly being problematic) and it sucks that Yzma's VA is dead, rest in peace Eartha Kitt
amazing voice and actor, she was A great villain...nay THE GREAT VILLAIN!!! and her singing this song is just dope as hell, very catchy too
I know the original story will probably never be made into a full length movie but I would love to see this song animated
Wonderful song! It's a shame this got cut.
Technodreamer it would make a better plot.
Well, I love the movie as-is. I understand this wouldn't fit, but I wouldn't want to give up the movie we got.
same here. Still, im curious, I´d wish to see the story this song was made for.
Technodreamer yeah. I prefair kingdom of the sun
Eartha Litt was robbed. This should have been in the movie!!
But it doesn’t make sense in the final plot.
You know what's funny? Blocking out the sun would have blocked out the moon as well.
The moon just reflects sunlight. It's not a source of light itself.
But tbf people back then didnt knew
Petition for a live action Kingdom of the Sun that follows the original plot.
I'd pay to see the animated version
While the song's subject is about as cliched as women villain plots go, Eartha Kitt sounds amazing singing it! We lost a rare talent!
Why, oh why couldn't we have gotten this instead of the actual movie? RIP Eartha, you are sorely missed...!
Seriously Disney, you cast Eartha Kitt as a villain and CUT her villain song?!
I'm here because of Schaffrillas Productions and it's the most viewed video
What’s funny about the moon/sun metaphor is that the moon only shines because of the sun’s light.
One of the BEST songs Disney has ever produced... and they tossed it in the trash due to ego clashes.
I think It was partly because Disney didn't want another black cauldron fiasco. I still wish this was released though
"Did outrageous things with a mummy and often the stiffs that would shrive" I can 't not see the dirty side of that xD
I would have loved to see a remake, or possibly even a new movie, using this plotline. I feel like it would have had an On the Road to El Dorado vibe and I love that idea! PLEASE Disney make this a reality!
You know, I always wondered why they'd cast a dynamite voice like Eartha Kitt and not have her sing...wish they'd kept this!
Poor unfortunate souls, be prepared, hell fire... who?
All because of Tumblr. THANK YOU
I vote that Disney should animate this song and put it as a short before a film. I feel denied! This would have been amazing
I mean, i would want to destroy the Sun too, if i look like Yzma because of it.
Remind me why we weren't given a single song sung by Yzma in the final movie?
***** That explains why they changed the film but it really doesn't explain why she doesn't have a song of her own.
Well, if it makes you feel any better, none of the other character's had songs either. It wasn't really a musical; the only song was the introduction one sung by the little Elvis dude.
well no one really sang at all in the final movie
Because all Disney's last 'musical' movies failed at the box office, so they decided to drastically change the course.
This sheds some *light* on her motives
Disney, PLEASE ANIMATE THIS
Thanks for this valuable video
Im addicted to this, this song is so good
god same here
So the plan is
1. Destroy the sun
2. ??????
3. Become young again
This feels like if “Friends on the Other Side” and “Be Prepared” had a baby.
Better than the entire movie
I hate that Disney cast such an iconic singer then cut out her songs
Crying shame this was cut.
It absolutely slaps.
I love the emperors new groove for what it is, but my gosh it could’ve been one of the greatest Disney movies of all time if they didn’t scrap the original plot and musical
I always loooved yzmas outfits. They were so special. Only a few caracters in the history of cartoons had such a remarkable taste in fashion
Btw i loved her 20s fashion
