Stevie Ray Vaughan -- Superstition

- From the award winning series I co-created and produced, Stevie Ray Vaughn blistered the show with two songs on this episode and then asked if he could come back on a later show to play a duet with a then-unknown 19 year-old blind blues guitarist Jeff Healey. Legendary live performance on this series, no lip syncing, no retakes. It was the closest a viewer could come to being in the front row at an SRV bar performance.

Nothing like Stevie covering Stevie
😂💖🌠
Good one👏👌😂
I never looked at it that way good one
2 Stevies
I'll take the SRV Stevie any day.
I don’t think people who don’t play guitar can fully appreciate the level of intensity and blues virtuosity it really takes to pull of the solo in this song. I’ve been playing for nearly 25 years, and you just have to tip your hat to this sort of masterpiece. The Strat tone is absolutely perfect for this song.
100% spot on
yep i play guitar an scuttle buttlin is frickin awesome the guitar work on it
@@codzy3532 if you can get down scuttle buttin, vodoo child, and cold shot than you can get this one down. I love how he just feels the rythym in this one it’s really grown on me now one of my favorite srv solos of all time
any good musician will appreciate it - he doesn't have to play the guitar well.
It’s need to strong strings and dumble lol
Best guitarist this world has ever seen in my opinion
👍👍👍👌👌
Greg Koch lol
not your opinion, its fact.
Why? The only guitarist no one can replicate sound wise. No one.
Agreed
That drummer is monster. The way he is keeping the band from running away coming off the changes is masterclass.
Absolutely underrated.
would you care to explain?
Chris Layton
Oh, Yea! They're all wonderful!!! Great band! I feel you'd have to be, to keep up with SRV.
@@shaunwilliams3387😊
So I saw him when I was 11 or 12, at the Jazz Festival in Denton, Texas. My dad had to drag me there. I remember wanting to go off to the pool and chase girls. He insisted I hear him, telling me that I would never hear a guitarist like him, and the ladies could wait. Within seconds, I was fascinated. Very few artists move people with no words like SRV. Ever wonder why Texans are so proud? Well, this is one of many examples.
Heck ya bro
But then he also hits you with the ole sneaky sneaky of also being a fantastic singer when the song calls for it. (See: Ain't gone n give up on love, life without you, change it)
Nice story, I believe it.
man and im going next week to Denton to work! this is great!
This is why Eric Clapton says he could not hold SRV's jock strap when it comes to playing the guitar....of course not real sure why he would want to but a nice compliment from one great guiatarist to another.
The guy on keyboards is a monster! What a special arrangement, pure energy!
Commenting from my dad's account he has passed on love u dad and your music choice just browsing through your CZcams. Miss u so much xoxo
Hard to imagine the millions of neurons firing throughout SRV's brain during his concerts, somehow taking Randomness then creating a classic and recognizable pattern.. Not often is a human endowed with such talent, it is truly a Gift. We must never waste what we have been given.
cocaine
@@lilyummy3371 playing guitar throughout your entire childhoold will do that to ya
@@lilyummy3371 and also a lil bit og cocaine. But he was spazzing even Afterquitting drug use
You couldn't have said it better. Happy to see others appreciate these videos as much as me
His neurons must be super Saiyan neurons xd
His solo... was unreal. Everytime I watch it... how can someone be this good?
Stevie said he was a black man trapped in a white man's body
One of the greatest, if not the greatest guitar players of all time, in my opinion
@@7MatthewJames easily. Few players give me the chills after playing Their music on literal repeat for years. My friends know me as the guy who “listens to SRV and Tool” lmao they don’t understand playing Guitar you can spend years dissecting a song and it’ll never get old
@@flanneldaddy5220 I’m the same, most people I know ask who SRV is when I bring up him in conversation, and I’m frankly bemused why more people haven’t heard of him
how can someone be this good? 26 hours of practice every single day 😂
Stevie was always incredible but after he got clean, like here, he had this additional intensity and fire. The man was like a caged wild animal. Unreal.
Fuckyou
His playing was definitely crisper after he and Shannon went on the wagon. Plus, stage presence improved as well.
When was this? He looks blasted to me? Still kickin' ass either way.
He was like an UNcaged wild animal.
I think, I could be wrong though, he got clean in 86 or 87
I love how he strums the shit out of that guitar
Strums ...I say he saws the shit outta that guitar
He's got cables for the strings to withstand his strumming.
There is no other. Never will be another. He was Senna, Jordan, Gretzky, Brady you name it. The guitar was part of his body and soul. He spoke through it. Wove a story or sound that left the listener in a state of awe and admiration. SRV you will always be number 1.
his voice is incredible
Only the great ones die young. By that logic, I will live forever.
Does it make me look a bit of an ass if I say BB king was 90? Hell.. when you wrote this comment he was still alive. Jesus
Damm a lot of good musicians died young
iamacharliest ahahahaha
Hahahahah
@@magnusgilberg775 do you play anything - baby ???
Classic Stevie. This song is gonna be echoing through time for centuries to come. GOAT. 🎸👽; Texas🌪️ RIP, King SRV 💔💙 ☮️
This is a PERFECT rendition. Most people look at SRV and think he's just hamming it up, but the truth is he could play this song, and every other, with every lick and solo, not to mention the incredible vocals, every time exactly the same way.
Your body cant help but start moving when you hear this... SRV, the BEST
Who else is listening to SRV in 2023!! Never gets old!!! I love it!!!!!
I’m listening to SRV in 2024 my man
So much power in this performance, one of his best ever and still got 359 negative votes
359 people clearly don’t acknowledge his music
Stevie was a monster man. Played the heaviest gauge strings like THAT.
Stevie covering Stevie😂😂 just perfect 👌
SRV forever. RIP 1952-1990 we miss you Stevie Ray.
We saw Stevie Ray play at The Sydney Opera House. He said it was an honour to play there. We were honoured by his presence. An unbelievably good player.
Best guitarist in history.
Look at adrian belew, then if you can read it pull your hair out over the tab
@@seaghan6412 not what makes a great guitarist
25 years ago today the world lost a Rock Icon. RIP Stevie Godspeed
Joe Po he's with Yahushua now.
Seemed like the guy showed
Up at time when we needed
A killer guitar player.! Very sad!
Stevie and Eddie were top notch
In that era!
I want to be in Heaven and hear him and Hendrix do Little Wing together
OMG!!.. How awesome Stevie was!!!.. Think God created Stevie for his own entertainment!.. Thus, taking him from us way to soon. He was plainly given a " talent from God.. But thankful for the time we had him, all the great music he left for his. And all the "love he passed our way".. But Stevie.. " Life without you", is so sad .. RIP~~~ mucho love from all of your fans!❤️🎸
Yeah you right!
you do know he didn't write or compose this song right?
- God is a real asshole isnt he ...? :D LOL
You do know that every cover Stevie ever did from Hendrix to Mr. Wonder here is light years better than the original right?
i have always had the same opinion, and have said the same on many occasions.
Stevie should go down as one of the best it's a shame his life ended in the prime of his career
This guy was a genius, an unique style, very sad he gone too soon...
+Victor Chaves Fernandes pure genious!
Friggin love Stevie Ray...one of the best guitarist ever!!
Tommy Shannon sadly blends into the background but he's might be the greatest blues bass player ever. He played bass with Johnny Winter before SRV. He's the kindest person you'll ever meet and once you learn a few of his bass lines you realize how truely special of a player Tommy Shannon is... Incredible musician with amazing groove and very tasty note choices. People don't realize there listening to the best blues Guitarist AND Blues Bassist you'll ever here. Both together in one amazing band
He closes his eyes because of the feeling... When you play music, you're touched so deep and you close youre eyes.
True
You know when he closes his eyes, he’s one with the blues
Supernaturally sublime -- freakin' untouchable and unequalled to this day.
NothingMaster definitely
I fucking love so much how SRV played his guitar
I hear you man... check out the DVD copy of live at Montreux. Ive watched it on youtube many times but when you see the DVD you really see how he molests that guitar. then again it could be my horrible connection watching things on 144
Such energy!
I was lucky enuff to hear him live in my town before he passed, What a show!!! nb, ct
I was lucky enuff to catch him before he passed in my hometown of nb,ct, What a show!!
fuck YEAH. Stevie wonder's versino is amazing. SRV's is out of this world
Also - everything SRV does is spectacular, but do yourself a favor and always listen to him live. I usually don’t like live stuff as much as the careful versions - not so with Stevie Ray Vaughan. What a delight. I’m so glad I wasn’t born in an earlier never having the gift of hearing and watching this amazing … I can’t even describe him. There’s something so special - yes - he's that special. Wow. Thank you, world. Thank you universe. Thank you, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
one of the few blues musicians I missed since his death.Great humble, talented man who played with anyone who asked him or wanted to.SRV lives on through his music and the legacy does too.
Can only imagine Stevie W blessed this as Stevie R blessed him...
Unreal and mesmerizing. Such a shame he was taken away from this world but his music will continue to live on
For me that solo is a piece of music history.. Improvisation at its best!!!
He even said himself he was not a good vocalist..But listen to him !!!..He learned hiw to be a Blues Master !!!
The rock industry took a major hit on August 27th 1990. SRV such an astounding talented musician taken way too quickly.
Phenomenal guitar player and master vocalist. Best R & B and Rock n' Roll combination ever. It's been 32 years since since his last concert (AUG 1990). The only guitar player I can think of with similarities is Allen Collins. Lost him January the same year. Both were one of a kind. SRV was the whole dang package ~ kimie
Stevie plays the guitar with soul. And a brilliant singer.
The neatest quote ever (IMHO) about SRV, was from an old man in the Dominican Republic, who was shown a video of SRV playing at Montreux, Switzerland Jazz Festival. The old guy had his well loved acoustic in his lap, while watching the video, and all he could say was "he's become ONE with the guitar".
Man, I miss him. Astounded by his axe-playing it's easy to forget he has a great blues voice.
God given talent, born with gold dust in his hair. True Legend, Forever Young, Forever Missed. RIP STEVIE!
He was so beautiful and so talented and humble he touched my heart and soul rest in peace you beautiful angel Stevie ❤
He can play the shit outta that guitar ... He was feeling it you can see it on his face.....
This is something I will always come back to. SRV at his best. Miss him so much. RIP Stevie.
Stevie Ray Vaughan ~ what a MAGIC!!!
He was definitely a magician, the music he made was just amazing.
Stevie Ray Vaughan rite rope)!
Lena (SentimentalMe69) indeed
Lena (SentimentalMe69) Stevie's the best
Man oh Man! How I miss him, best Red Rocks Concert ever!!!!!
Definitely, Stevie was a force undenyably. Love me some SRV.RIP
When they show a crowd view it's like they are just sitting there Lol i would be fuckin goin crazy...Stevie produced straight power to the soul and mind with how he sang and played that guitar ...one day we will jam together brother rip
+Noah Simmons i'm sure that they announced that it is being filmed etc and they tend to ask audiences to act in a way where it wont conflict with the filming; what they do is make the whole thing look weird, just like you said. there are some old zepp ones like that, and stevie wonder. lol...awesome he is tho!! (SRV)
Just think of him jamming in the here after with, well where do you start? Elvis, Lennon, Keith moon, Mr Hendrix, John Bonham, Paul kossoff, Robert Johnson, etc etc etc etc!!!!!!!
Does anybody notice that he was playing with closed eyes? Amazing!! Definitely, he was felling the blues!!!
That’s when you know you’re one with the blues
Saw SRV play at Nicollet Island in the middle of the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Paul. Absolutely one of the best concerts I have ever witnessed. I use the word witness because it is the most accurate descriptor possible for an SRV concert. Something akin to a religious experience occurs because Stevie would completely give everything he had, and those lucky enough to be there would give it all right back. Sometimes this world is cruel, like when Stevie left. R.I.P.
Once in a lifetime maybe 2 lifetimes, something so pure comes along! Love you and miss you Stevie!!
Stevie ray Genoch is on CZcams.com will you check him out?
When a singer or instrumentalist closes their eyes, they are feeling the music deeply.Gospel, rock, country ,blues, etc.all do it.It adds more feeling to it.
Love his version. Im amazed at how many people play guitar with their thumbs. I was always taught not to do that, but I love seeing it...makes it ok if SRV does it! ;) Rock on! Live on!!
Yes, me too. I am self-taught and always played with my thumb behind the neck, but two things made me change my mind and essentially re-learn my whole playing style so that I could play thumb-over:
1.) When you play standing up, it is wayyyy easier to keep your hand anchored for bends and keep control of the instrument. I always practiced sitting down, so I never realized it!
2.) Watching Hendrix, SRV, and most other top rock and blues guitarists do it on CZcams! Hey, at least I'm honest lol
god he was..the angels cry
good comment
S.R.V is the G.O.A.T 🔥🎸🇺🇲💯...
I love Stevie Ray. Gone way to soon, I love every song of his! One great musician!
Back when showing your affection for a song or artist by performing one of their songs live was seen as a sign of appreciation. Hopefully this attitude comes back.
Best guitarist to ever grace a stage, and you can barely hear the licks on this video.
I saw him live. The band is so small. Tight. In the pocket. Like a metronome Then you realize, SRV is playing rhythm and lead at the same time. Yep. Very very special artist.
This young man was truly brilliantly gifted. His sense for powerful, dynamic music regardless his preferred genre, he could sing, amazing, play to crack the sky. Literally.
My kinda chick...you live in ohio?
No. Thank you, however.
I like this drummer a lot
+Calebe Priester Chris Layton is his name
Always loved this version of Superstition by Stevie! A huge inspiration!!
wish i could of seen the greatness that was ...SRV!!!
The world of music lovers really lost a giant when we look Stevie Ray Vaughan!
Best cover version of Stevie Wonder's Superstition I've ever heard! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
My God. He was so wonderful. Such a great soul.
NO SH**, DUDE! I was thinking Michael Moore. But who cares? SRV again demonstrates total mastery over the guitar bringing some semblance of good memories of 80's music.
4:22 that "Twang" (3 times) I just love that. 🤷 He was amazing!
Stevie doin a Stevie song? Awesome!
blues at its best
"Damn Right"
It's not Blues...
wouldn't say purely blues it's a badass mix of funk and blues.
malike engrum Agreed!
This man is on the same level of guitar player as Jimi Hendrix, Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan are both guitar gods
1962 Fender Stratocaster “Red”
Stevie Ray Vaughan SRV Red StratocasterStevie bought this guitar at Charley’s Guitar Shop in 1983. It was originally a sunburst Stratocaster, but it was repainted with custom red by Fender.
The guitar remained in the stock condition up until 1986 when Rene Martinez took the neck of to replace the neck on Stevie’s Number One, and installed a left-handed 1964 rosewood neck. Around that same period, Stevie added “SRV” sticker on the pickguard.
Stevie often played this guitar live for “Love Struck Baby” and “Pride And Joy”.
The best guitar player ever.
He's one hell of a guitarist, a shame he's not been around longer :c
That band is absolutely COOKING. Amazing.
shook his hand and still have a pack of his picks/ my boss knew i was a huge fan after he played our venue and introduced me.....memory for life
This man goes to ANOTHER PLANE OF EXISTENCE when he plays music. FUCK.
he sings so well lol it is insane
This is so friggin' hot, what an awesome player & spirit he was vocally too. Loved ya man, still do.
Awesome..Stevie Ray Vaughan ..a music legend that is sadly missed and how so..blue's and rock n roll and his singing is fabulous..great entertainer and plays his strat as it knows his every flick on the cords and blade's out the sound..U are missed Stevie..RIP
Imagine what music a old stevie ray vaughan would have created. mega loss.
Just like jimi when Stevie got in the zone it went beyond just music
Happy birthday SRV.
"While we're back, Give ya time for the worlds premier guitar player Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan" (SRV) RIP
when listening to Stevie always keep in perspective that he used extremely heavy gauge strings it will make jems like this much more appreciated by anyone who plays guitar
+Tony McCallister Yep, .13-.56 gauge strings tuned to E flat! How he could wring a bend out of strings that thick tuned to that tuning makes my fingers hurt just thinking about it!
+Steven Manning I hear ya, bro. My fingers are sore just watching him.
+Tony McCallister I heard that he tuned lower than Eb even - maybe even D? anyway making it quite reasonable to play the heavy gauges.
I fuckin love hearing that low E just get smacked on Stevie's guitar...
Bika, I'm not so sure about that. I often use "drop-down D tuning", and I don't notice a significant decrease in string tension. The prercentage decrease is pretty small.
Heard about SRV when I was a kid in the mid 80s went to see him in Manchester apollo about 88/89 he was the best of the best he was a genius and to see him live was unforgettable my own opinion the best guitarist ever by far shed a tear the day he went
stevie meets stevie... that, my friends, is when gods collide.
Sensational..at guitar and singing..a performance that is terrific..a LEGEND
Stellar.
I watched him live in new britain ct. I was 8 feet in front of him !!!man did he jam that was in the mid 80s
A force of nature, beyond all.
Still 2018 SRV you're the best
4:10 holy shit so much feelings in these notes I got tears in my eyes
oh god help me ...I saw both legs of this tour in California. fucking smoking..ruined me forever. great post qualityshows..thank you so very much
