- The Mercedes AMG GT lineup has changed names and added tech and power since it was first introduced. We were given a GTC for a couple days during our Atlanta meet-up, and once all the events were over we had a tiny bit of time to put our thoughts on camera. Join us on a great back road in a surprising car.

It's hard for the camera to capture just how *wide* this car is. When you see it, it just draws your attention because it just looks like something Batman would drive to a casual party.
Totally agree. When I first saw one, I couldn't believe how much more striking it is in the context of the real world compared to in pictures and online. It's soo wide and soo low. I'm not a fan on MB in general, but this car is gorgeous in person.
Gary The Cycling Nerd Yes, the car looks amazing.
So true. It looks incredible on the road, so wide and low. Absolute beauty 👍
you're not wrong. The proportions are absolutely nuts - but in a good way !
@@R3LF13 i agree! Saw one in chicago and no words to describe it and i saw a gts
I own a 2018 GTC I built to my spec. I love the car, everything you highlighted is true. Just unbelievable.
Drive it everyday with a big ass smile for the both of us
Give me a ride in it, dream car
As a BMW fanboy, I just have to say that this car looks absolutely, jaw droppingly gorgeous!
We appreciate the respect from the other side

The styling is just timeless. It’s like a modern E-type, the shape is beautiful. More of this future/retro styling please.
Me with 50$ in my bank account:
Yea I’d definitely consider owning this Mercedes soon
Mercedes nailed the AMG GT from the word go. It's outrageous, beautiful, fast, built like a tank, makes great sounds, and it's pretty rare. It's a wonderful, modern interpretation of a 300SL.
Perfect comment, i agree!
Only few people talk about the pretty obvious similarities to the 300 SL and how perfectly they made this modern interpretation a reality.
Actually much better than the Jaguar F-Type trying to be the successor of the old E-Type. Ironically the GT looks more like an E-Type than the F-Type does because Mercedes had the balls to keep the old school proportions with the super long hood that actually makes these cars special.
Wow. I’m not much of a Merc guy, but man! That is a beautifully brutal looking (and sounding) automobile.
Fantastic review guys! Makes me want just yearn for one. New semi-attainable dream car? Maybe...
You didn't comment much on the interior, but it's one of the best I've ever had the pleasure to sit in. Great, jewel like gauges and switches, fantastic layout with that NACA duct inspired center console, and top drawer Mercedes fit, finish and materials. It makes Aston Vantages (my other segment favourite and long time dream car) seem almost cheap or under-designed.
Very much on point, that Mercedes is killing it with all their vehicles these days. Everything from the A220 to the AMG GT and the G63 feels incredible right now. Every product is not just deserving of the Mercedes reputation, but enhancing it, I think.
Great stuff as ever, please keep it up. Glad you can still do the podcast while social distancing!
Is nobody gonna mention the fact that a CPO 2016-17 AMG GT-S can be had for less than $80k? And the interior actually looks better pre-refresh.
It does
True. And less now that your comment is 4 years old. However cpo means absolutely nothing. The dealership's word is not trustworthy. If you believe it is, then you haven't worked at any dealership...
@@AmericanBusinessman422 has nothing to do with the dealership’s word. Has everything to do with any problem being fixed for free under warranty.
Awesome review! This is one of my favorite Fast Blasts in awhile. Really exciting car!
Watching's Paul's expression change as Todd drives. Usually, you have to be in the drivers seat for a car in the corners to elicit those kinds of smiles.
Being on the Georgia drive with this car was so fun. I won't soon forget the feeling I got when I saw this car slink around a corner behind me and close the distance. I think few cars on the road have the presence this does, especially in black. It's like Dark Knight Returns era Batman, big and brawny and you know he's gonna beat your head in.
With the day I’ve had, arriving around Paul’s erotic descriptions of the AMG GTC, arguable my favorite car, were very welcome. I needed the laugh but I wholeheartedly agree with him, too. If I could drop that money for that car, I wouldn’t think twice.
This was one of the best cars Mercedes ever made. What they’ve done today is dreadful compared to this
This is exactly what I came here for. Good work guys, I hope that someday you get to rock one of these on the 'Bahn!
Love this! ❤️‼️ Been a Mercedes fan since grade school days!! Thanks for this review!!! Love your show!!! 👍🏻😁
One of the best reviews online for AMG GT
this is the exact type of car I wanted to see your impression on
Great review for a great car! It felt like Todd enjoyed Paul’s enjoyment of the car more than he enjoyed the actual car. Awesome stuff!
Great vid. Love the look and sound of this car. Interior looks dope too
So a quick overview of the GT lineup. The GT C was introduced in Europe to sit between the GT S and GT R a while ago, right after the GT R came out. The GT C uses performance elements of the GT R, for example that aero duct through the rear lid. The GT C was then brought to the US with the facelift and the GTS was dropped for the US. In Europe, you can still get all four flavours (5 actually, and 6 in the future): GT, GT S, GT C, GT R, and GT R Pro. Plus all variants in Roadster format, and then upcoming, the GT R Black Series.
Great content once again. This is the best car I’ve driven. I completely agree with your sentiment on emotion perfection.
Side note, you can customise the functions of those quick action buttons on the steering to shortcut any of the centre console buttons. That’s why they are little screens. Also when you turn the ESC off in the GT R the driving mode dial lets you adjust the 9 steps of traction control intervention.
What an absolutely stunningly gorgeous and fast machine. Add this one to my dream car list!
Hey hey, that road looks familiar! Fun review, and I’m so glad you guys got back up there to attack that stretch of road in the dry. Thanks for the memorable meetup and keep the good stuff coming. - Josh and Alyssa
What road is this
I'm the same way, I judge a car by the quality of the door close.
An example of a car that the photographs and videos don't do it justice. This car in person is breathtaking.
Great camera angle when its mounted behind u guys. Great review in general!
Beautiful car, the curvaceous design is gorgeous on the road 🔥
Nice review guys! It really is comparable, yet very different from the 911. Looks really fun to drive too!
A comparison with the upcoming Ferrari Roma would be interesting. Although you may need to upgrade to the Mercedes-AMG GTR.
As sports car, the Mercedes-AMG GT lineup is a great addition, as it stays true to the front-engine/front-mid-engine super GT concept. When it came out, it performed very well on track (still does although it has since been overshadowed by the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT2s).
A very underrated car for sure. Great 👍🏿 job guys.
That car and the SLS AMG are just so great to look at and are actually quite affordable in the certified pre-owned market looks and performance are killer
I always thought the AMG GT's kind of reminded me of a hatch version of the Aston Martin One-77. Maybe it's just me.
Yes! I thought the same watching this show.
More like DATSUN Z of the 70's.
Mike Nathan Ahh yes, that's a good comparison
Another great fast blast! So Todd.... how much did it trigger your internal OCD editor to have a black car for the shoot and a white car for b-roll? Ever since you pointed out in a podcast needing the colors to match in the BMW X5M review, I cannot stop noticing when they don't match in car reviews!
I think you captured the essence of this car. Unlike the 911, it will never be capable but boring.
The amazing news is, in 2023 these things have depreciated like crazy. Immaculate low mile 3 yr old GTCs are available for Corvette money.
Thanks heavens it doesn't have a joint dual screen config, looks so much better when they are 2 different screens and not integrated into 1. That's was just a lazy job, just plonked the screens on a flat surface. Glad the designers finally woke up. Despise the joint double screens, made me cringe.
I really love the review guys and the way you described the car. I am trying to decide between this and it’s 911 variant. I’m having such a hard time.
ABSOLUTELY love the AMG GTC Coupe! Relax though, it's not 3.1secs to 60mph... More like 3.7secs #nicetry
🎶he talks alotta windaaah 🥴
That’s my dream car. I love it. A beautiful GT.
The only Mercedes I actually like. Great review!
Technically, an AMG sold bu Mercedes.
Macht Schnell AMG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler-Benz.
I assume the price also makes you weep. 😂
If not, the repair Bills surely will
@@yoojastle2099 people that buy $200k cars brand new dont usually worry about that sort of thing. Its the people that struggle to buy it used that get into trouble.. but they are pretty reliable, its just that a brake job will set you back 3 or 4k for sure...
I watched this after the 959 video and did not even blink at the price! That was de-sensitizing.
Jeff Brisson Not really - it’s reliable and does not cost more than a C class to maintain. Just tires really.
J F the non ceramic brakes are no more expensive to fix than any brakes.
Nice 928 mention - agree.
I was excited to hear that the next SL will be more like the GT
auban acess, yes please. aslo, P&T i c you two smiling like fools the entire video. so glad you guys are still making quality content in these crazy times.
What a beautiful car. Has a little bit of that old Jaguar XKE flavor, but with a much wider stance.
Damn that thing looks beautiful in the thumbnail.Calling this to be considered one of the best looking cars of the era in the future
What a stunning car
Most beautiful, creative, sporty simple and clean interior in any sports/super car for still an impressive weight of just a few crumbs over 3600 lbs
This car looks incredibly expensive and yet is inoffensive to pedestrians. Last year someone parked one up near the patio we were at and everyone just turned and admired, not even knowing what it was. It will age well but I wonder about all those digital displays in 15 years.
A smidge faster than what they recommend; my guy!😍
Paul would LOVE the Z3 M coupe/Z4 M coupe. It’s a baby one of these down to the seating position
We did a review of the Z4M coupe a few years back and loved it!
I owned a Z4MC and that was the first thing I thought. I remember them being pretty fond of it. Really, this vid makes me want to search for a 928S4, which I also had.
You should feel how Maserati Quatrportte door slams !! A league of its own
Beautiful car! Wish I were in the 1% so I could afford one of these (And an Aston Martin SUV)
I have one and if anything you do not feel the weight at all.I also have a c6 wide body vette which is lighter but i feel no difference. The Amg handles better than the Vette.
Nice Vid, very nice car!. What roads are you on in Ga? would love to cruise that area.
It kind of reminds me of the Cressler crossfire
“Ouch” let’s just acknowledge that for a minute 😂
first one since the 300SL that is 'beautiful' styling that will last
The SLS AMG is the next MB future classic, which will last. The AMG GT cars are just "successors" of the SLS. The AMG GT is something like a shortened SLS.
Does anyone know what road they're on?
The b roll footage is from a normal GT you can tell by how much narrower it is. The GTC uses the GTR wide body without the crazy aero
Paul, don't look up used ones... they are def within range of the working man
not the GT C unfortunately, which is significantly different from the GT and GT S.
@@Fluterra you still get the good looks and hearty v8
@@Fluterra Hoesntly though even the standard GT is a great to drive. Most people would probably be more than happy with it.
Daniel Sadjadian the standard GT can be tuned to significantly outperform the GT-S and GT-C for relatively cheap numbers. A stage 1 tuned from Renntech is 600whp on a base AMG GT (rated 450hp stock).
@@DanielSadjadian yes, for sure! Didn't mean to imply otherwise.
This car handles differently from the earlier GT or GTS model. The rear wheel steering on the GTC provides an experience the earlier models can’t.
Looks so much as the DATSUNS Z cars of the 70's.
Way wider though.
Do not miss your next eye exam. 928 or Aston, yes. 240Z? Not very close at all.
I like the 928 comparison.
@@machtschnell7452 They probably mean the proportions, the gt classic long hood short cab shape.
Macht Schnell I see it in the design proportions
I everyday drive my 2018 AMG c63s convertible. I love it more than every other car I have ever owned or driven. But I still drool after the AMG GTC and GTR. Maybe I will acquire one day, but I dont know if I could ever give up my c63s. Same engine BTW, just different driving dynamics.
This body with 6.3L AMG thats it perfect GTC
Dude said, "ink". Got a laugh from everyone in the room.
This car would be in my top 3 cars to own. It looks gorgeous, if you turn the traction control off then it'll try to rip its tires off and murder you, and it's moderately reliable. Not as much as a non-AMG Mercedes, as AMG always tends to add a little bit of uncertainty to the reliability, but that just puts it on par with average brands. And the average brands don't look or sound like that. Easily a future classic and woefully underappreciated during its production run.
Here's the thing about Mercedes and their sport-GT cars: they give you a taste of the feeling of slow car fast. Obviously they're incredibly fast cars and they will absolutely handle far better than they feel like they will handle, but it's that heavier driving dynamic that gives you that little frisson of excitement when you chuck it into a corner and feel that weight shift. I had an old Mercedes C320 Coupe and it was like that. It would 100% handle twice the G-forces that I felt comfortable with, and that is one of the better engineering design choices that a car company can make for something that isn't touted as a hypercar, because it makes the driving experience safer. You set a threshold at a reasonably high bar for what feels comfortable to push the car to do, then set the actual performance threshold even higher.
One of these, or whatever they design next with a very similar body shell, is a bucket list car for me. It'll probably never happen because, as mentioned previously, it'll be a future classic. It's just such a beautiful thing. But, very specifically, not the race or track spec models. When the lower side vents get bigger for those models then the balance of the face of the car gets thrown off. It has an elegance to its design that is aggressive yet refined. The long, low hood hearkens back to the V16 cars of the first half of the 20th century, while the delicate body lines and uninterrupted shoulder line make the whole design feel cohesive and sophisticated. I cannot overstate how attractive this car is to me. There are plenty of other cars that I am equally attracted to, but for vastly different styling cues. Take the Lotus Evija for example. It's angular and striking with sharp folds and creases to the body lines, but they flow together and meld into a unified whole.
Dudes, those functions on led screens on the left of the steering wheel can be changed by pressing the screen on them. They are not limited to traction control and start/stop. Half the reviewers of this car don’t know that.
Feels like it's been a year since i last saw a video from this channel...
We've had consistent videos for more than a decade and are currently posting twice a week (some upcoming weeks will have 3 videos). Glad to have you with us!
I’ve heard the GT C is the sweet spot of the range
Early 2016 models can be had for relatively cheap.
Staying Frosty 🥶
Do you over notice the size of the hood on twisty rds.
Everytime you look at the price tag, you just want to weep lol
In Germany GT, GTS, GTC, GTR, and GTR Pro are available at the same Time, here they are different models.
Blue shirt (Paul?) was hard for this car...
I grew up a Porsche fan, wanted a 997 turbo since they released when I was 10 years old and now that I can actually afford one Mercedes releases this monster to make my choice even harder lol coming from a C55 AMG and now a C63 AMG staying an AMG man for life is tempting but I can’t let 10 year old me down. Decisions, decisions.
You should test drive the AMG GTR Pro. That's a completely different animal
I went to school in Gainesville, wat up Georgia!!!?
The best looking Mercedes on sale right now.
SPORT+ with manual gear changes and sport exhaust on a country road = Nothing better!
Time to test out The Mustang Terminator Cobra 2003
That road looks a lot like SR 19 south of Blairsville; or did you make it to SR 68 to Tellico Plains, TN?
John Ranalletta that’s my guess too. Somewhere on Blood Mountain near Vogel State Park. One of the best driving roads anywhere. Except for the trucks.
@@mikehollinger2935 60 up and down Blood Mountain to Suches doesn't have any passing lanes as I remember. The video following this shows Titans stadium and the bridge on the Natchez Trace.
Worries bout price? I just picked up 2016 gts with warranty and 38k miles fully loaded with alcAntara interior and clean title for 70k :)
The modern day equivalent of the E-type Jag but with a meatier soundtrack....

@@adamgraham6265 Wow....!
Got to own one of these sooner or later....
I second the Wow....!
The difference in height between the front and back windows is driving me nuts!
What do you mean?
This thing is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l
One of my favorite cars ever. I'd choose it over a 911 all day (minus the Dakar, or a Singer)... but I'd probably choose an LC500 over them all, and I'd drive it until it dies. Or so I say. I guess if I could buy a GTC, I'd probably be more open to servicing expenses.
Been a while since I've seen a review from these guys and I've missed it. Sounds lame but I have to give props for a commanding use of the english language. Nice to listen to a couple of eloquent people regardless of the topic. Not at all like the hoards of amateur car reviewers out there who just call everything "nice". These guys and SavageGeese are my favorite reviewers.
Thanks for saying this - we're glad to have you watching. We've got a lot of content in the pipeline right now. Thanks for watching!
I love Porsche, but I would rather this thing, it's awesome! :-)
This car should have been what the Porsche 928 evolved into.
and keep the 911 as a lightweight sportscar.
Pros:
Amazing drive, very powerful, great sounding car. This is the true “beauty and the beast”.
Cons:
No remote start (extremely annoying), poor remote key range, no bird eye view camera.
I’m shocked by how much these cars depreciate. There are 2017s available in $70-80,000 range. That’s a lot of car for that money.
Forrest Jenkins I just bought a certified pre owned 2017 S550 that was leased for 28months so it still has 2.5 years left of warranty and had like $5k maintenance just done ( oil change, new brakes, tires, etc). The car 28 months ago was $117k, I bought it for $59k. I will never buy a new Mercedes even though I can easily afford to.
When was this video made?
I am very much intrigued with this body style. Ive come very close to picking up a few year old model. The 2020 is much improved... but there's no way I can buy a new one. The release of this one pretty much kills my interest in older ones. It figures...
GT C has the GT R widebody, GT S was just tuned GT
Good review, but it is odd that the photo car (the black one) is a GT C and the one shown on the road (the white one) is a GT S. So, which one did they actually drive? The GT C is definitely the better drive.
I saw one of these in red the other day and 🤤🤤🤤
E63s review soon?
Or an M5 vs E63 review?
Just wanted to say, I share the same feelings about the Mercedes. I've never been a Mercedes guy, but as a life-long car to buy and put miles on and keep in the stable, I could totally see this Mercedes as being a collection. They are doing Aston Martin better than Aston Martin does. They are offering a better looking, more elegant, more beautiful, yet more visceral and exciting sports car than Porsche is. Mercedes has got a winner with the AMG GT. I will own a AMG GT one day.
