  • A long church built into the side of a hill, St. Wilfrid's, Melling, has lots of steps up to the chancel, and the east window's still al ground level outside. It also has some splendid 17th century pews in the aisles, and a good 15th century west tower. The south chapel has an 18th century memorial of the sort that the Victorians really did not like.
