    I am a bit suprised by this amount of bad comments, actualy PDX-12 is a my favorite pad in 200 euro/dollar price range. I bought a brand new Roland TD-17KV kit in december 2018. and had it for about 18 months. I used it as my primary kit for gigs and played it a lot, average 11-12 gigs per month. At that time I was relativly a hard hitter but never had any problem with PDX-12 on snare or PDX-8 on toms. Allways thought that, after the TD-17 modul, snare pad was the best thing on that kit. I had problems with CY-5 on hi-hat and, by my expirience, cymbals are far more fragile than any pad. Sold it just because switched to acoustic kit for gigs, during that time never had any complain about triggerig. Actally I think that Roland needs to retire PDX-6 and PDX-8 after a 20+ years and develope a PDX-12 design smaller pads with 8" and 10" diametar for their entry/lover mid lever drums. If anybody still needs a 8" pad these days...

    I'm having the same kind of issue. bought the kit last october and started having annoying random flamming with the snare. I've been playing drums for around 30 years so I can pretty much say that I've been gentle with it.

    I had this issue with my floor tom, and realized somehow the threshold setting was changed on the drum. So I set threshold to 0 and it picked up sensitivity.

    Hello, thanks for the heads up. Did you manage to get a replacement? I was about to buy a PDX-12 and saw your video.

    Exactly same problem. No ghost note. No dynamics. Based on the comments here, pdx-12 seems to have some real reliability issue.

    Totally agree! Been playing Roland kits since the mid 90's - pretty all of them and the PDX-12 is by far and away the weirdest and most disappointing snare pad Roland has ever developed! Replacing w a PDX-100 - far less hot spotting and far greater playability and much better rim click sensitivity.

    I have a td-17kvx2 arriving tomorrow. I hope I won't have an issue. I'm also planning on swapping out some Tom pads. I'd like a pdx-12 or a pdx-100 for the floor tom.

    My pdx-12 seems a bit off after a few months of use. Not as bad as yours. But it definitely seems to not trigger correctly on light taps. I wonder if it's just a bad design. I like the older snares with the cone shape trigger in the center. Maybe I'll get that and use the 12 as a floor tom. Let us know when the new one comes in!

    I've had mine for over a year now. Mine plays great. My frustration with the snare is the lack of engineering in replication of a real snares, clutch throw. I find no way to shut the snare off. Why not a on/ off button on the side where the throw would be? My crash has all a dead spot all of sudden. I've checked all parameters. EQ, helped but not much. Dude, you definately got a dud.

      Yeah it’s a dud and has been replaced! I understand it happens but is frustrating after spending so much money 🥲

      Roland crashes, the rubber inside sheds particles and it causes the rim sensor malfunction and choke the hits. You need to open the cymbal apart and clean the inside off of those small black dust. There are youtube videos showing how.

    I have had the TD-17KVX since April 2021. Just this past week my snare has also been giving me issues. Mine keeps mistaking regular snare hits as rim shots. It's much more apparent with "X-Stick" engaged. It happens at lot when I strike the snare hard, and certain areas are way more likely to do it. Even on regular rolls, a few are bound to show up as clicks. I went through the Pad settings and tried changing each of the different parameters and getting to know what they do, cannot get it to function properly.

      Sorry to hear you are having issues with the pad as well KurtBob! I would recommend going through the steps on the Roland website like I had to. Hopefully they’ll be able to sort you out a replacement!

    I have a Roland TD-17 module with the PDX-100 snare pad and the module for about two years. I decided to reset my module to factory (not because of the hotspot) but after the reset ... the snare now has a hotspot. It's ridiculous. Again the problem did not start until I did a factory reset. Still trying to figure this out.

    • @TheChrisBowling
      @TheChrisBowling  Před rokem

      Sorry to hear that! I did eventually get mine replaced by Roland. I hope you get it sorted

      This is exactly what happened to me ... snare hotspot after I did a factory reset. I have two PDX100s and swapped them the problem stayed only on the snare position.

    Does someone know which snare pad is better? The pdx-12 or the pdx-100? Thx in advance 🙏

    • @MnyFrNthng
      @MnyFrNthng Před rokem

      PDX-100 is a much better pad but it is only 10 inch. I have three of them as toms. For me 10 inch is too small for a snare. So I purchased a Pdx-12.

    Same problem with the snare here. Wonder if replacing the trigger would fix the issue?!

    I've exactly the same issues. There were times that the ghost notes didn't trigger but I never bothered too much. Until recently and Today when I turned on the kit, the snare was double triggering few times and won't take my ghost notes, or a normal stroke back to back. When it does take the stroke it triggers double sounds and suddenly it just died on me. Now it doesn't work at all. Got it last September 2021 and it's October 22. In between i was on offshore for over 3 months, the kit had no use at all. Played few hours a week or fortnightly and its broken 😕

    • @TheChrisBowling
      @TheChrisBowling  Před rokem

      So the pad did get replaced by Roland! After much back and forth testing different things it was the pad. There was no stock so I had to wait a while. The one day it arrived out of the blue and I had to send the broken one back. Shipping was covered so it wasn’t too bad. So far so good with the replacement pad 🤞

    I just bought this kit and think I have a bad snare from the start. Sweet spot is clearly center bottom near the sensor. The middle is unsatisfying. I turned the volume for it up and the sweet spot got louder but the center barely did. Anyone else?

    PDX-12 is a cheap and nasty drum. I don't know why it is seen as premium. It is about 14 inches in diameter and so your legs will constantly hit it when double kick drumming. PD105X is a great 10inch snare pad that can be found relatively cheap.

  • @ClihtYeastwood

    Roland is absolutely useless.
    Not only did they make v drums that are probably a 2 out of 10 on the durability scale, they never have any parts in stock!
    I’m 3 years into my td17 and so far I’ve replaced the snare, bass drum, cy5, 3x cy8’s and the entire cable jack.
    Took 6 months of waiting for the snare to be serviced before they finally just gave me a new one, which is also now having issues.
    Never again.

    • @MnyFrNthng

      Same here. Their crashes are so not durable. The edge sensors went bad in multiple cymbals, both ride and crash and hi hat. (VH-11)
