    One thing to note is that for a microphone to work with the adapter it should be connected first to the adapter then to the lightning port of the iphone. Otherwise the phone will use the internal Microphone instead. This is not my personal opinion, I heard it from another CZcamsr but I have yet to test it out. I have seen it though being demonstrated in a video.

    TRS stands for tip, ring, sleeve and TRRS stands for tip, ring, ring, sleeve. Those bands you mention are just the insulation between the conductive parts of the plug. So if you think, there's 4 bits of metal on the TRRS plug and 4 letters in TRRS, that's probably a more logical way of remembering it. 😀

  • @AdamFBuchanan

    You’re seemingly using a condenser. Are you recording the audio live into your camera via a mixer/audio interface, Or have you synced audio to video in post?
    I want to run ableton live from an audio interface with 1/4 jack to my iPhone. I want to live stream me performing music. The only audio I want my iPhone to be using during stream is what going to it directly from my audio interface.
    My understanding is I’ll need a male 1/4 jack to female 3.5 trs converter. Then male 3.5 trs to male 3.5 trrs. Then female trrs to iPhone adapter.
    Do I have that right?

    Hi, I do have a Rode SmartLav+ with TRRS but it doesn't work with my Iphone 12. It is plugged in in the original phone jack to lightning adapter from Apple. Do you know if I need a different adapter to make it work?

    • @brmbkl
      @brmbkl Před rokem

      Without knowing the exact type of cable you use, chance are that adapter doesn’t transmit audio in (mic), only audio out (headphone). But like others have said: try connecting the adapter to the rode first, then everything to the phone

    Thanks for the video, Is the apple lightning adapter is TRS or TRRS? And when I connect it to the iPhone, should it cancel the internal mic? Because I try and the internal mic still picks up sound.

    Excellent explanation-thank you. I have one question: is the output jack from most small inexpensive mountable “shotgun” camera microphones TRS ,and if I ever only had a TRRS cable as output from the mic to an audio mixer-PA, will the Apple 4th contact automatically be negated and not effect the signal once it is plugged in? thanks again. @@mischugo nice! My bad I accidentally deleted your last response as I am on the road and using the app 🤦 but to use a smartlav plus with your iPhone you will not need to use the sc4 adapter since the smartlav is made to be used with smartphones. You will connect your smartlav directly to your iPhone adapter then to the phone. If you want to use the smartlav with your rodelink then you will need a rode sc3 adapter in order for those two to work together then a sc4 adapter from the rodelink to the iPhone adapter.

    • @JoelWallis
      @JoelWallis  Před 3 lety +2

      You will want to use a TRS to TRRS adapter like the Rode SC7 in the link below to convert over for the android. The only concern I would have with using the H1N is its output from the headphone port is line level and traditionally with smartphones you would want to use mic level due to the difference in db levels. In theory it should still work but using a device with mic level would be preferred. www.dvestore.com/rode-sc7-3-5mm-trs-to-trrs-patch-cable/?aff=8
