    It is also helpful to give new players an experienced general (person) to advise them if possible with a good bonding army to get the feel for how the figures work together.

    Hey Sir Heroscape, good video tho I'm disagreeing quite a lot on your 120 points hero rule. Some armies based around a big strong hero like greenscales or TKN, or Q9 pods are very strong, people won tournaments with TKN (dok did, I did). Which is important in those armies is to know how to make damage without risking the hero life too much. But honestly they are not hard to pilot.
    I usually prefer to have one Big bonding hero than multiples small ones who force me to like separate my forces, except for bonding Heroes who are very passive like Nerak for example.
    Also heroes at under than 100points who requires OM are almost unplayable in competitive with tons of commons, they are used only for cleaning up at the end if the game is close but other than that they are pretty useless.
    And finally the 15 figure is a good tip but nowadays almost all tournaments have a 16 figures limit in addition to the 24 hexs limit so running 5x the same common is not possible.
    Other than that very very good tips.

    • @SirHeroscape
      @SirHeroscape  Před 4 lety +5

      I agree with you...but keep in mind, this is the “basic” version. As you get more advanced, of course TKN becomes a fun and useful unit to pilot...but for a newbie it’s all too easy to exploit their inexperience. So this “fundamental” should help newer players not invest too much into individual figures or run too “shy” on common squads. I would also point out that TKN is more of a reverse the whip type army build. He’s not A tier so playing him also largely depends on the format. Same goes for the commons rule. In a standard, 500pt army with 24 hexes these apply pretty well for newbies.

    I think you need to work on more concisely communicating what you want to get across. You don't get to any of your main points until almost 8 minutes into the video. Also, if you're going to make this video for beginning players, you should show them what you're referring to, visually. If you want to bring up elves, bring up a picture of an elf card and highlight the relevant text. If you want to talk about rats and their ability to "screen", go into detail about the game mechanics that allow that to function (some people don't know about engagement/disengagement abilities) Most of your time is spent talking directly to the camera. To make best use of the video medium, you should be including a lot more visual info. This could've easily just been a text/picture post on a forum.

      1v1 400 to 500 points max, premade balanced armies to choose from. Themed armies works well. Also choose armies with classic move-->attacks turns like classic bonding not very weird stuff.

    • @SirHeroscape
      @SirHeroscape  Před 4 lety +1

      People have to have an affinity to the type of gaming that Heroscape is, so before I try and play a game with someone I always ask them a couple quesitons:
      1. Have you ever played D&D?
      2. Have you ever played Chess, Risk, Warhammer 40K?
      3. Do you like Fantasy stuff like LOTR, Harry Potter, Dragons etc?
      Once I've gotten a bit of a sense of their interest/experience in those things, it makes it a lot easier to introduce them. If they haven't really played or are familiar with the above than it's not super likely they'll "get" heroscape but they may still like it...BUT if they like or play any of the above than I use that to build off of the introduction of heroscape...because heroscape is a little bit of all those games and has all kinds of fantasy themes that a lot of people can relate to. But first I want to understand where their "nerdiness" is at.

    I've been playing since Rise of the Valkyrie was released casual play with friends mostly and never heard of your 15/120 rule. Sadly most of my common squads I only have 2 or three of. This is one I disagree with I've had success with 3 squads of Gladiators plus Spartacus and Crixus, and would rather play with 3 squads microcorps with Realin and Laglor than 5 squads of Microcorps.

    • @SirHeroscape
      @SirHeroscape  Před 4 lety

      Well, Spartacus, Crixus and Glads X3 is the “Steamroller” build and one of the exceptions. Generally speaking though, you’ll want at least 4 squads of your bread and butter unit in order to have enough figures to last you the game. Not to say fewer squads can’t ever be effective, they just can’t be AS effective as having more squads - generally speaking.
