Milwaukee has two different battery systems, the M12 and the M18. The M12, as you may have guessed, is the 12-volt platform - while the M18 is the 18-volt. Both are great and have very specific design considerations that belong in different categories. So when thinking about buying a new bandsaw, think about the true use of the tool beforehand.
First off, are you wanting to cut really small things or really large? Or would you prefer something in the middle that gets a cross-section of both worlds?
Next, do you want something light-weight that you can use on the top of a ladder without your arm feeling like it's going to fall off from lifting it over your head, or would you prefer something really lightweight?
Lastly, how often are you using it? Is this an all-day, everyday need or will you only pull it out every once in a while?
Once you know these questions you can begin to assess whether or not you'll need the stout 18-volt system that is far heavier, and heavier-duty - or if the 12-volt light-weight, low power consumption model will work better.

YES!! Finally you are back, havenât been watching any electrical videos because nothing keeps me interested like you do! Glad too have you back and hope all is well with you brother!! Iâm a year into my apprenticeship now and the amount of times your videos have come too life is amazing! Thank you for everything and Iâm excited too see you back!!
I have a lawn service, I watch your videos for other reasons. But I have had my M18 Lawnmower for 8 weeks now and have been loving it. This is the mower that doesn't make me feel like I need to keep a gas mower around for "just in case".
Glad to see you back. Youâre a great teacher man
Thank you my friend! Glad to see you back too
@@ElectricianU wasup with the long sleeve shirts bro?
I have the tiny m12 bandsaw, I love it! Very small and easy/light to pack in and out with my other tools. Straight cut I haven't been able to cut 1 1/2 EMT, but if you cut a ring around it, up to 2" EMT is no problem. Deep strut it will do but only if it's a perfectly straight cut, otherwise better to cut one side at a time, very straight that way too. People always make of of my "Lil Ms. Red", but then always ask to use her in tight spots lol! Can't wait to get that new m12 fuel!
Glad to see your back Dustin! Great content! I watched all your videos before starting and during trades school. Iâm 46 out of school and just over 5 months full time into the trade and loving everything about it!
Hows it going for you ? Hows the money and work availability ?
So good to see you back sharing your knowledge with the world.
I have been waiting for the fuel m12 bandsaw for years. I feel like a 10 year old on Christmas morning right now. Super pumped đȘ
does it work well cutting emt (3/4 and 1")
I just use the big bandsaw, especially since I am mostly cutting 4 inch ductwork for hvac along with threaded rod and unistrut. Hands down the easiest way to cut 4 inch double wall pipe until they create a real lightsaber! I have the 40v Makita and it is an absolute beast! Having the 44-7/8 blade is also nice because it is a common size.
Pro tip, go buy a thumb screw and swap it for the torx screw. There, tool less guard my boys
You prolly dont give a shit but does anybody know of a way to get back into an Instagram account??
I was stupid lost the account password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Maurice Kaysen Instablaster =)
@Zahir Emiliano I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Zahir Emiliano it worked and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account !
@Maurice Kaysen Happy to help =)
Nice video! I think you covered all the bases. Milwaukee Rocks! Been wanting one for a while, and I honestly didnât know they had so many options. Looks like the new M12 is the winner for me. Thank You!
Bro I jus discovered your channel. Excited to go through the the videos and learn! Thanks for this. Please keep making videos for us who are absorbing all this great info! Cheers
I almost got the m18 deep cut. Ended up going for a greenlee corded bandsaw. Made in usa and all metal. Still works great, new blade and cord. I plan on doing new brushes and greasing up the gear box in the near future.
Down the line (if I'm doing more conduit work) I'm probably going to scoop up a baby m12 band saw. A coworker has one. Theyre nice and compact.
This is exactly what I was hoping to find, thanks for this!
So far, you're the only one I've seen mention the blade size. Thank you!
Thank for returning one of the best electrical information sources around. Looking forward to your take on Wego connectors and whether you should put electrical tape around switches or outlets. Thanks again.
Excellent for pipe fitting. 4 in on down both steel and copper! Thanks big dude!
I have the non fuel M12. Been running it for 5+ years. Itâs nice having the small size to one hand cut. It does 90% of what I need. It will even cut deep strut though the last 1/16â is a fight. Never really needed more power. That said Iâm still eyeing this new one up cause why not? I have just recently moved into some m18 tools though...
The only battery powered bandsaw I have is the m12. Iâm a plumber so I donât use them as much as an electrician would. Now that we donât cut and thread black iron the band saw is perfect. I have the corded version of the Milwaukee big bandsaw that I pull out if Iâm doing a big gas job. Iâm excited to see the bigger m12 because the current m12 mainly gets brought out for strut and ready rod but itâs hard to cut the thicker strut with it. It also looks like it will cover almost any job we do. We rarely go over 2â except with pvc and that easier with a sawzall. And if we are cutting 2 1/2â and up copper or black iron I can easily run a cord.
Finally a new video. I didnât have a notification on my phone like the videos in the past. I just checked the channels Iâm subscribed. Iâm happy watching your videos đ
đ€ thanks for watching my dude!!!
Welcome back! Thank you for very informative video on Milwaukee Bandsaws. My question is would you use Big M18 to cut railings while installing a solar system on a roof or you have a better suggestion?
I have the smaller M12 and love it. My friend and I are building a carport at the house and he brought over his deep cut M18. We were able to cut 6 x 6â I beam with it! Now Iâm looking for the best deal on one!
Great vid.
Answered all my questions..
Thanks man..
Love this vid. Learned mucho. Thanks a million. I don't donate to u but I do let all the commercials play. So hopefully that helps
For years I always used a saw-saw then about 7 years ago I got the medium size bandsaw and I rarely see my saw-saw anymore best tool for cutting conduit.
You should have mention that the one item you can add to all the bandsaws is the pipe reamer it attaches to the drive wheel so you can also ream your conduit for a clean cut. Also you can attach the saw to vertical 2x4 stud and it will stay attached and use it sorta like a table saw
Great video đđđđđ
Wtf is a saw saw
Think he meant Sawzall lmao
Perfect timing! I was just looking into getting a band saw xD
The best one is the one I can afford.
Right now, that aint much, but the bandsaws are great for line, tower, and general electric work. Couldnt imagine not having one at this point when cutting rigid or strut.
Great Video. I have the M12Bandsaw. I love it.
Hvac guy here, haven't watched the video yet but after using all of them over the years, the m18fuel compact is the best by far especially with a high output 3.0..you can cut strut, conduit you name it with no problem and climb ladders with this thing.only complaint is finding blades in stores. My favorite tool I own then the 12v surge...
Edit: you need to get a ridgid tripod and cut your material! So much easier, yes not as fast but better cuts
Wow you are very informative. Love your videos thanks
Got the regular m12 bandsaw for Christmas. I just returned it to Home Depot to preorder the m12 fuel. Only a $60 difference in them and I need the larger cut capacity. Sadly Iâm not patient and only place Ive found selling it is acme tools for $229. They will let us pre order it, but estimated ship date in February 7 đ€Ł Still worth the wait, I only do low volt work so I donât need a deep cut band saw often. I really only returned the smaller one because of cut capacity, it was so light and compact but just canât cut much with it in my field. The 2.5x2.5 on the m12 fuel is perfect for me. Like you said Iâll just use hacksaw for the bigger 2.5+. Also Iâve found before when cutting conduit with the small m12 you can turn the conduct as you cut it and can actually cut a much bigger size and 1 1/2 if thatâs all you got.
Loved the video. Great comparison and real world scenarios.
Happy holidays
Man the M12 fuel bandsaw is the most overdue addition to Milwaukeeâs lineup I can think of. Iâve been wanting an M12 fuel bandsaw for like 5 years. Why did you take so long, Milwaukee?!
Got it, Love it
I found that the m12 bandsaw only really shine in residential jobs my personal experience with the m12 bandsaw and cutting angle iron.......struggle is a nice way of putting it and it seemed to lose it's overall power after about a year I ended up purchasing a new 12 one and same thing happened after a while just felt like the motor wasn't motoring. However I just got that m18 compact and I'm super stoked to use cause the deep cut us perfect for my commercial uses just hate the weight and awkwardness that the deep cut can create in certain situations
These are great for cutting all thread without having to chase the threads and cutting liquid-tite without any burrs or tear out. I've only have the deep cut, but it gets the job done, big or small.
Agree, it cuts threads beautifully đ
What's the smallest thread size this works on?
Iâm in hvac install and Iâve been wanting to get a band saw for awhile now. Was going to get the m18 compact but I already have a bunch of m12 batteries and the new m12 sub compact looks pretty good. Pretty much decided to only get brushless tools because brushed tools just donât hold up for long term professional use. Is the new m12 rated for cutting black iron gas pipe? Biggest I cut is 1 1/4â.
Iâm a 6 month in apprentice and Iâve got both M18 and M12. I have gotta say guys, M12 surprised me. My M12 Impact is⊠I ask a lot of that thing, and do things that itâs CLEARLY not designed to do (how about drilling 6â deep 7/8â holes), and she still delivers.
Still would say start on M18 however, itâs more versatile and your company will likely have spare batteries to toss you if you need some juice.
Also when it comes to brands Dewalt isnât a bad choice either for their 20V stuff, and WAY too many people sleep on Makitaâs incredible Build quality and designs.
Regardless though, red and black suits me, with Milwaukeeâs kick ass RnD and just raw power in their tools.
Couldnât agree more, with all of it
Keep on keeping on bru, you'll have every brand one day and every tool
Funny, as watching Pipeline yesterday on live stream & commenting on whether anyone ever done vid on all the bandsaws; t(an BOOM đ„
Your videođ
AWESOME!
Love the new m12 fuel & excited bout it.
I pipefit and pipe weld. Iâve cut 6â sch 80 pipe with bandsaw. Pretty sure I had the thick metal blade it be better but I had to roll the pipe cut a quarter at a time. Way quieter and no sparks. It is to big for 2â pipe so Iâm prolly gon get the compact m18. Iâve made my corded bandsaw into a benchsaw. I agree with most or all of the stuff youâve said. Great review.
Needed this. Was considering getting a band saw now I know what one I want.
Man once you get a compact band saw youâll be like how have i live without this. Youâll rock and roll thru conduit jobs.
Just my opinion, I think the M18 Compact is the only one most guys will need. I have the little M12 too but anything over 1/2", I feel like I'm waiting on the tool. The M18 has never felt heavy to me and will rip through anything you put in front of it clean and easy. I wouldn't personally buy a deep cut band saw because most of the time your Company will have a corded one if you're doing big pipe. Thank you for the thorough video!
Very informative review. Can you please comment on how hard it is to get a straight cut with the deep cut tool? Even regular bandsaws sometimes have blade drift. Thank you.
Great Tool Review. Keep it up.
I have a m12 subcompact, good for up to 1 1/4.. love the m12 line. Way lighter and just enough power if ya get in a pinch. Not for every day hd use though.
I absolutely love the m12 bandsaw but will def be buying the new fuel version. They addressed the two major things that I wished the old brushed model provided..a 2â cut and a rafter hook! Def wish they used the same blade though. Not a game changer but would have been nice.
Plus that optional pipe reamer is the bees knees!!
Came in with the clutch video! Was gonna buy the M12, now gonna wait for the FUEL unless they go on sale lol
I bought the small one years ago.
Fantastic tool.
Before they came out with the smaller band saws I called up milwaukee and told them I would like one made smaller.
The person that I talked to was very rude and didn't like the suggestion.
I like using my subcompact for emt and caddy brackets, my fuel mid size for rigid and struts, and for anything above 3" I just end up using my hacksaw, the deep cut is just way too heavy for my liking. Cheers. That midsize fuel has a reamer for EMT adapter it works pretty good only downfall is the way Milwaukee designed it to snap on the the bandsaw it tends to fall off a lot.
Love my M12 Cordless Portaband. For the big stuff though I still use my trusty Milwaukee 120v Deep Cut with the optional stand that makes it into a chop saw. That is nice a a cut station for chopping strut and allthread.
The M12 saw is awesome for anyone who is an installer of any type, residential Electrical or Plumbing or Light Commercial. So much 1â and smaller stuff to cut in those trades.
I have the Milwaukee M12 sub compact Bandsaw. Itâs great. Very light and gets the job done. Electrician in Virginia.
As a plumber the m18 compact is perfect for daily use didnât know it came with a reamer attachment so def getting that asap !!!
The pack out system has such good metal clasps. They should use that design for the clips on the bandsaw so the cover doesn't fall off all the time
Thank you for the info
Great video, good job
Good video it help me outđ
The fuel versions of both have a reamer attachment on the bottom which is also super convenient
Doing solar installs and would love the regular m12 all we cut is 3/4 conduit and channel struts. Don't need anything bigger.
You need 2 of 'em. Smaller one for 2" pipe. It's small enough to use all day.
The other one should be capable of 4" pipe. Too big to sling around all day but needed occasionally for larger projects.
JMO.
Great video!
Good to see ya back, where the hell have ya been?
Got it. Love it. Older guys talked crap until they used it overhead themselves đ
got all the bandsaws besides the sub-compact. I love the compact m18 the best since it's not too heavy to hold with 1 hand comfortably all day and it does work on anything, but the m12 is awesome when it's possible to use it
Being German, i have a Bosch GCB 18, which is kind of like the small one you showed with it's 2,5" capacity. We don't do much metal conduct in europe and our pvc stuff can be cut with butterknife, but i use my bandsaw for construction stuff, mostly B-type aluminium profiles.
We do so much metal here lol. And I wish I could cut our PVC like butter...but then again, that doesnât sound like it protects the conductors very well if thatâs the case. How do you like the Bosch?
Love that m12 band saw, and talk on the price? Gots to get me one!
Whats up mate. 10 years later I still use mine with the 20v batteries. Funny thing is hercules brand blade 2 piece for $14.99 and made in America and fits this saw.
Great review
Have you tried using Diablo's Steel Demon blade? They have one specifically for strut, emt and ferrous metals? It's pretty sweet and can go in either a 6.5 or 7 1/4" blade for circular saw. Depending on size It's 20 to 30-ish dollars. It makes clean and square cuts.
Heck yea my dude. I just ordered the m12 fuel. Gonna sell my old m12 bandsaw to one of the apprentices for $40 to helpâm out.
I got the fuel m12 and although its light, i decided to go with the regular m12 bandsaw as its alittle lights and i mainly got this as a hacksall replacement
Recently bought the sub compact m12, really love it. Just the battery consumption is the only problem for me, granted I cut a lot (I mean a lot a lot). Kind of wished it had an m18 version of it.
Get an adapter
I have a cordless dewalt deepcut. I've been useing it to to cut 3" pvc when running flu, all-thread, unistrut, gas pipe, etc. I can walk into my local supply house and find dewalt blades on the wall.
And I'm still on my first blade. I can lean it against my leg and make one handed cuts with ease.. Bad ass.
But I recently picked up a Milwaukee m18 fuel compact for smaller cuts and I can't believe the fiasco with blades. I literally burned up my 1st supplied blade, and had no teeth left after cutting one 1/2 inch black pipe..
Wtf..
I've been on the phone with Milwaukee but I can't seem to get a straight answer on what blades I need for general HVAC and electrical work.
It was an EXTREME THIN METAL blade.
I found some 48-39 0529 blades at ace a town over, but may just box this up and send it back if it's gonna be this hard. No point in having a bad-ass tool if I can't get quality blades for it. The saw feels sweet in hand tho, so reluctant.
Any advice?
Awesome video but Iâm stuck on what to choose for tray work?
hey Dustin the m18 non fuel brush does exist I've had it ever since i move from tx. it's pretty much same as the fuel. except it doesn't have the reamer attachment.
I own the older compact. Kinda heavy, kinda bulky and no ladder/belt hook option. That said i still really like it, just wish it had the hook, will probably make one. On a side not the makita compact is also really nice. Much lighter and comes with ladder hook.
I bought the newer non fuel compact like 2 months before they released the fuel version. I was so pissed. If you find a good system for the hook, let me know! I've been thinking of doing the same, just haven't found any hooks or placements to work yet
Great idea to have the double trigger system cause I watched a guy use one hand and the other on the pipe and after he cut the pipe the band saw sliped and almost cut his finger off
After using it more have you found any other problems with the M12 fuel bandsaw?
If you gonna get one of these, youâre not gonna get bothâ
Me who already have the M12 Sub but digging out the new one-đđđ
The speed dial on the m18 bandsaw is for when you are cutting stainless strut or rod, or any metal that's super hard. You will burn up your blade before you get through if it's on the fastest speed.
But you can just pull less on the trigger? Whatever makes folks happy I guess.
so trying to decide, for someone that cuts lots of 2 7/8" tubing and occasionally 1" square tubing, is it better to get the compact or the deep cut?
Could you make a video about working with PVC Coated rigid conduit?
That mini band saw is awesome
Does the m12 fuel fit inside a packout though?
Which is more powerful? The 5-inch corded? Or cordless? Don't really understand the need for a HUGE cordless. If you're using one, you're most likely on a big project for a while and you likely have a cutting stand to hold the pipes in place (or something) so just having a cutting station would probably be more economical overall.
I am trying to cut a bunch of angle iron but itâs 4inch angle iron 1/4 inch think. Would that brushless m12 work if the material was on a bench?
More of this please
Dustin, one year later are you still liking the M12 Fuel subcompact bandsaw? Pros? Cons? Quirks?
All my stuff is dewalt so I hate to have both brands but I do like all the Milwaukee stuff also. I might just invest in one of theseđ
How well does the m12 fuel cut through thick materials like unistrut?
I'm curious about the reamer option for it....
i have the m12 fuel and i love it!!
How does the new brushless compact bandsaw 12v compare to the Dewalt atomic 20-volt bandsaw?
When is the fuel m12 bandsaw coming out to buy?
The name for that is actually a ârafter hookâ because those originally came on circular saws and tradesmen would use that when framing to hang the saw from rafters and joists.
Woah! Sorry I haven't been here in a while. You have a chin again! I'm thinking of shaving mine again and starting over in November.
Whenâs the m12 fuel supposed to be released
Would love to see a video on fish tapes!
Is the compact m18 easy to use one handed?
Whatâs the model number for the brushes m12
I have to a mini ban 12 series all my powers tools are Milwaukee all my hand tools are Klein but now after that awesome video I want to buy newer 3 inches one sub compact Milwaukee 12 series I also need Milwaukee 18 volt hole hawg too lol Iâm big fan of Milwaukee tools I love all my tools lol thanks for video
Will the m12 fuel cut up to 7/8 all-thread pretty good?
It's on my Christmas list.
Thinking about the M12 Fuel but have read a bunch of complaints about it's unique blade size and 3rd part availability. Granted that maybe now dated information as well as tied to it's new release. Do you see issues with finding blades for it???
The mini porta band M12 both gen 1 to gen 2 as well as the deep cut M12 porta band all take the same sized blade if memory serves.
And it's a specific size to that kind of tool.
3rd party availability is probably a non issue now.
Awesome review. Iâm going to pick up that deep cut tomorrow. đ
