I honestly can't see the hate behind Pikmin 3DS. It's clear to see that it's a spin-off, but I guess there are people who are too stupid to realise that. I understood why Federation Force got so much hate, people wanted a good Metroid game again after Other M, the gameplay was changed and Samus was practically absent. Pikmin 3DS is coming out 4 years after Pikmin 3 (time sure flies), while FF came out (disregarding Other M) 9 years after Prime 3. Pikmin 3DS is a clear spin-off, get it together people!
Michael 64 they mentioned that the people who made Yoshi's new island are the same people making pikmin 3ds, so it's not so much hate as it is fear that it's going to be a rehash of the egg-throwing mechanic

I agree. If the resources used on pikmin 3ds aren't being taken from developing more big games like breath of the wild, then I don't see the problem at all.
Still, despite all that, I was a tiny bit disappointed that the first portable pikmin wasn't a traditional enough entry for fans such as myself. However, there's just no sane reason for anyone to be incredibly angry over this when pikmin 4 is seemingly almost here. And judging by how good pikmin 3 was, even if they play it safe, we're almost guaranteed another good installment.

Some people are really that ignorant? Nintendo has said the 3ds isn't replacing the DS & look what happened.
The game boy advanced isn't getting replaced by the DS & so on.
People really need to stop taking Nintendos word as fact.
Why should Nintendo have two handhelds on the market? That economical makes no sense whatsoever.
At the same time though there has been debate if the Switch will actually be the all in one console due to the issue it faces, like the rumored battery life, the risk of its poor durability which isn't common in Nintendo handhelds, the risk it has to alienating Handheld dev's, among others. As well there is that lovely quote that people through around with several nintendo reps stressing that it is going to be a console first and a handheld second. And even then you have the elephant in the room of the new 3DS being a possible fall back, given they could simply announce all future 3DS games will only be on the new 3DS, giving the console a bit more of life before they really think of what they want to moving forward.
I'm not denying that yeah its entirely possible that the Switch will be Nintendo's all in one console, but at the same time you can't deny that they do have some different options as to what they could do. Personally I don't see them trying to phase out the 3DS with the Switch since it sounds like a bad business choice to me personally, given you would be trying to phase out your most successful product in favor of something new that nobody knows if they even really want, much less sell well enough that it would make up for the loss of revenue from the 3DS, but again time will tell what Nintendo has planned.

Have you never gone on a trip as a kid by car that took longer then 3 hours? Have taken a flight on a plane for more then three hours? Do you bring a charger with you if you bring your 3DS outside of your home?
Yeah if your largely a console gamer, then its not an issue. Your going to be playing on a big screen most of the time and playing games on the go is probably more of a novel feature to you. However the same doesn't apply to people who do a lot more handheld gaming. Three hours isn't nearly enough for someone who actually does do a lot of gaming on the go, as many people before me have expressed. And even then your not really denying my other points and assuming that anyone who doesn't constantly want to sit next to an open outlet to play Pokemon must be from the third world.
Mellomori 3 hours is plenty of time; plus the Switch is confirmed to use USB C which charges any device to 100% in under 30 minutes. Plus anyone with a brain cell has a car charger.
Again, 3 hours is fine for some, but not others. Yes it can charge fast, which is nice, but what would be better is having a battery that can last long enough that I don't feel like I have to keep the thing plugged in constantly. And yes how lovely that you feel the need to insult people who don't own a car charger given most people don't usually need to charge things in their cars, given most devices can hold a charge for more then three hours.
But let's just drop this. Its clear that you and I aren't going to see Eye to eye, so let's stop before we devolve into the usual youtube mindless drivel.

They may slow down production on 3ds xl units, but I think games will continue to develop for another year or two. The global 3ds install base is just too large to just cut it loose.
My hopes for the switch presentation (aka my christmas list)...
1. Fire Emblem Path of radiance, and other legendary gamecube games, on virtual console
2. Pikmin 4
3. Super mario switch being a star collecting, mission-based one like 1,3 and 4. Wouldn't mind another collectible as long as it's done in the same style.
4. Extensive amounts of breath of the wild shown off, showing towns and stuff in more depth.
5. Sonic Mania on the switch.

I feel bad for my cousin. He got a Wii U last year (not a joke in 2016) and now he wants to know if he can trade in his games and Wii U for the Switch. I wanna say yes but I don't want to get his hopes up if anyone knows please tell me it'll be gladly appreciated.

He can likely trade them in for cash or a minor discount on purchasing the Switch at places like Gamestop, but he isn't going to get a full refund back or a 100% straight up trade in for a Switch.
Honestly, I think the 3DS still has a good amount of life in it before it goes under. I give it either to 2018 or 2020. It's kinda hard to go from the 3DS to something bigger without thinking " what is the Switch then?" Yeah, it's the Wii U successor, but since the Switch is portable, some may wonder what's the point of a 3DS succesor. HOWEVER, at the same time, the DS has Dual Screens, something that's been more useful then most people think. The 3DS still has some good potential left in it!
I think one problem with there being no 3DS successor is the end of 40 dollar handheld games. Yea, its up to the company making the game to set the msrp but if Nintendo is releasing most of their games at 60 bucks on the switch most other companies will feel that they are entitled to do the same
The switch is relatively huge compared to a 3ds. Did you not watch it on Fallon? That is NOT a daily carry, unless your daily bag is a suitcase. It is not a replacement. They've said it's not a replacement. They've called the switch their new "home" console. Every commentator is desperate to say it's replacing the 3ds, they are wrong.
For perspective, the Ars Technica analysis gives the system (screen+attached controllers) an approximate size of 9.98 x 4.19 inches. That is HUGE compared to a new 3ds, coming in at just 5.6 x 3.17 inches. The switch cannot fit in your pocket or purse, and will take up a huge amount of space in your backpack. And that's assuming you don't have it in a case, which that huge unprotected glass screen begs for.
The switch is marketed as, and IS, a home system that HAPPENS to have a handheld feature. If someone wants to watch the Sunday football game, you can take your switch into the bedroom and play in bed. If you're going on a long trip, maybe you bring the switch as your 'extra' device to watch movies or play games on the plane. But you will NOT be lugging this machine around everywhere you go like you can with the 3ds.
The switch is 'portable' in the sense that a 13 inch MacBook is 'portable'. You can take it from place to place, sure. But that doesn't make it a suitable replacement for the 3ds.
And none of this touches on BATTERY, which is the second half of what makes something truly 'portable'. The New 3ds XL offers up to 7 hours of battery. You think this device will come to even half that? No. So, huge device with large unprotected screen that has short battery life..... PERFECT replacement for a small, pocketable handheld with good battery life. Yep.

All local AND online multiplayer. Optionally, with the New 3DS' power the graphics look very Wii-esque. With it's on the 3DS in general, it's only $40!
I bought my Wii U for the promise of getting Zelda in 2016. Sure, it got delayed again, but after E3, my excitement was refueled, and I went to my local game shop to preorder it. I'm a little upset that Yooka-Laylee's Wii U version was cancelled, but I know that I can at least play the enjoyable games I have.
I think the 3DS can survive for one more year MAX. Let's be real here, the major thing that keeps people coming back for it is main Pokemon games, and from what we've heard and confirmed by GameFreak, they are definitely developing a Pokemon title for the Switch (we all know it's codename Stars xP it has to be it) And with a few tweaking in the game mechanics, so can Ace Attorney and Professor Layton games make the...ahem, SWITCH to the Switch!
I hope we get that Detective Pikachu on the Switch too. The environment is gonna look gorgeous on the big screen!

I honestly hope the switch does not completely replace the 3DS because it seems to be a more single player oriented console from what we have seen in the trailer, and it seems that it will also function as a home console. As someone who shares a Wii U with their siblings, and the only personal system I own is a 3DS, it may become frustrating on who gets to use it on the go for people who have to share it with others.

I really like the games, Sun and Moon and also prefer mobile rather than console and Switch I see it as a Home console... so what do you suggest, should I get a 3DS or maybe wait some time for more information to see if Nintendo will continue to support the 3DS for a bit longer? I feel pretty confident that 2017 is going to have another main series Pokemon game in store for the 3ds. Either Diamond and Pearl remakes or Sun and Moon sequels.

I disagree with Andre, I don't think that the Switch is a suitable replacement for the 3DS, because I can fit the 3DS in my pocket, the Switch looks like it will have to be carried in a backpack at best. It just doesn't look as portable as a 3DS

Several third party titles to look forward to, and I see the last 3 being localised in the West in the tail end of the 2017. You guys also missed Tank Troopers (1st party eShop title that released in the final week of 2016 in Japan).
So with the detective Pikachu, I think they could be holding off on that to be able to do a cross promotion to the movie that is apparently coming, and maybe focusing to the Switch to get bigger numbers, for sells on the movie and the games. Yea Pokemon is huge, but unless it is a main title of something on the console, it normally doesn't get much appeal here in the West, so doing this strategy can peak up interests.
I am also so excited for the Switch, I've been saving up for this and hopefully get to see Nintendo go all in on all their games, and become great again, because (like you guys said) the Wii may have made Nintendo soft and that is why the games coming out are kinda meh.
Ever Oasis is a 3D action RPG on a system that has mostly just turn based games, and it's a Grezzo (OOT 3D and MM 3D devs) game with an emphasis on puzzles. That alone has piqued my interest. Combine that with Dragon Quest 8, a new Layton game, a spiritual successor to Kirby Mass Attack, I'd say it's a very strong lineup considering how soon the Switch comes out. Plus there's the possibility of the Dragon Quest XI 3DS version, Monster Hunter Stories, and Monster Hunter XX being localized at some point.
I think if the switch does not sell well or if it is clear that it becomes a 1 per family unit and not each kid gets their own like the gameboy and ds lines. the 3ds will still see support or a budget replacement because they are never going to get the switch to under $100.

with all the 3DS games I've bought up till now.I'm MORE than satisfied if Nintendo cut support soon. but I am interested to see what other games it can put out before times up.
+GameXplain Besides Breath of the Wild there is also still technically Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (now scheduled for an early 2018 release) as it hasn't been officially announced as being cancelled for Wii U yet. So Wii U owners still have that to look forward to until they say otherwise.

I haven't played it myself, but maybe Rune Factory 4. Especially when you're considering Fantasy Life.
The Rune Factory Series is kind of like a simplified Zelda in its dungeoneering, but this series spun-off from Harvest Moon where you can farm, fish, mine, and befriend villagers. Although you can also craft your own weapons. And I believe in this game you can also take on villagers you befriend as party members.

Ace Attorney series. 2 of the games are on 3DS, and the original trilogy was released in a remake package on the 3DS as well
Most of those games could be ported to mobile devices or hopefully the Switch will have a 3ds virtual console.

Actually, us Wii U owners still have Forma.8 and Kerbal Space Program to look forward to. Plus, in the case of KSP, the debs said that the Wii U version is actually running the game better than PS4 and Xbox One.
What about Superstars being released on the Switch as well? It has such HQ Art and trailer footage, and the Spring release date is interesting...

The Wii U was a stopgap system like the Gamecube. It was released to fill the need to have a new system available, but they were really waiting for the technology they wanted to become affordable.
And i just bought my N3DS XL -_-.. hope they still make games in 3ds until 2018 though
The One it still has one more year but the 3DS is 5 years and a half old at this point if I remember it right. It had a good life with great games.

dragonquest 11 is geting a 3ds version to isnt it? maybe the switch will get a ps4 version port eventually...and as a wii u owner and having baught a new 3ds last christmas ill be pissed if they drop them both even tho i feel thats how its going
I think the 3DS will last until late 2018 or early 2019.

while it's probably (hopefully) going to be a dual switch/3ds release, we do have monster Hunter XX coming out in March in Japan.
Hyped for that beautiful new Mario game. :)

Hey Mario Superstar sluggers is my favorite Mario sports title.
One time I set out thinking "Ohh I know I will make a Pauline fan team." I came out with a pie in the sky line up of, a Wart Team, a K.Rool team, Geno Team. Reworking the Wario Muscles and adding at least one character to the remaining teams on top of it.
Does anyone else think that Yacht Club will port Shovel Knight and the DLC over to Switch? as someone who doesn't want to boot their wii u back up when Specter of Torment and the King Knight DLC come out I hope so

There is Mario and Zelda, but I want something fresh that we a) haven't seen in a very long time or b) is entirely different.
this is the third time its happened, so its considered a trend now : Latest Major Zelda title being on both the successor and predecessor. Twilight Princess of GC and Wii, Skyward Sword on Wii and Wii U, and now Breath of the Wild on Wii U and Switch.
As someone who only owns a Wii U as a next-gen, yeah, I'm disappointed. I'm getting a Switch at launch, but I can't ehlp but feel bad for people who won't or maybe even can't.
I want Detective Pikachu so so much. They can keep it in Japanese with subtitles because the voice actor for Pikachu is amazing.
Monster Hunter XX is also coming to the 3DS even though it's Japan only currently
I think it's far too early say "Switch is a handheld" when trying to say the 3DS doesn't still have a use. For the Switch to properly replace the 3DS as a dedicated handheld gaming machine, rather than just a portable mode of a home console, the battery life needs to be at least as long as the 3DS, including Wifi/Streetpass being on if they include that feature, and the screen needs some kind of protection or carry case because the 3DS clamshell means it's well protected, but from the trailers I wouldn't want that thing in my bag on its own for fear of damage.
I don't think we know the situation with either of those problems yet, so I'm hesitant to get on the "Switch is replacing the 3DS" wagon for now. For all we know the portable nature is only meant to last for like four, five hours, not a full day in sleep mode + intermittent gaming sessions without being on a charger.
I can't wait for Pikmin Prime Federation Force!
