I was born in Hull & saw it's decline in the 70's. I eventually left in the 80's to find work elsewhere. I come back to my home town every couple of years & have to admit the place looked depressing the last few year, but the City of Culture has brought new life & vibrancy to city. These guys have done a great video to promote Hull, I hope the city can build on from the City of Culture 2017 & attract even more tourists. One omission is glaring, why do people who visit Hull never mention William Wilberforce, the man who abolished slavery. His house is a must visit.

There are hardly any murders as in Chicago and the general crime rate is just very low in comparison. It's a lovely city and the people are very friendly and considerate. I have never wanted to live anywhere else. Give me Hull any day. Oh yes, by the way anyone who thinks of Hull in a negative light I say come here and judge for yourself. You won't be disappointed. Absolutely FABULOUS experience and have been raving about it to friends and relatives ever since. I now live in York so I shall be back. Don't knock your hometown: everywhere has its downside and its rough bits and Hull has pulled itself up by its bootstraps. You should all be very proud. Hull is my home town even though I've lived in London most of my life now and you kept it all in a very positive perspective. The 'little' detail I wanted to make you aware of about the 'peculiar to Hull' phone boxes....they're cream and not white!! An easy mistake to make which most tourists make. Keep the great work up.....Loved the Basque films also especially Donostia. If ever in London....

I hope you went into the Holy Trinity church in the center of town. It was buildt in 1254 and it has a roman coffin inside. A very interesting church and it is slowly sinking! Anyway I hope you enjoyed the city.

FYI: British Culture and "English Heritage", not the same thing! Anyway I loved how you picked the most old fashioned museum and made it interesting.

There's a fisheries museum in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia that has the same kind of memorial (I guess?) of fisherman/ships that went missing at sea. Sable Island was responsible for about 350 shipwrecks because of it's location and size. I was actually unaware of that fact until I was visiting family last year. It's pretty interesting stuff!
Loved the vlog as always :) I have such travel envy right now...

When I worked as a fundraiser once I was speaking to a guy and asked him where he was from, he said "Hell, er I mean Hull" I once lived there for a few months so I understood the Freudian slip. I'm glad they are putting some funding into the place it needed it.

I'm getting so giddy about how the steps I take nearly everyday are on CZcams, also hulls redevelopment is almost finished, and right now there's a wind turbine blade in Victoria square. Plus there's a new memorial for the trawler men lost at sea

I’m from York around 40 minutes from Hull, unfortunately it is usually mocked by people nationwide, known for being the trashiest large city. However when you see it for yourself, it has so much going for it. Since receiving City of Culture status it has really picked itself up in some areas, the nightlife there is under rated too!
