Drawing one of my favorite comic book characters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I really had a blast reliving and sketching this character from my childhood.
This whole video took 50 minutes in real time.

Man his quick anatomy sketch is better than any drawing I can do
Selling yourself short like that wont help your growth, especially comparing yourself to others..
Na the dude is insane though.. you can’t help but be humbled..I’m with you homie
My wife has loved your stuff all the way back to Liberty Meadows. You did an artwork for my wife when she was sick of Ralph looking like Darth Vader. She loves that artwork. Just wanted to say thank you!
I was one of the animator/ cell drawers for the show for the European version Teenage Mutant Hero turtles. The word Ninja was changed to Hero to remove the "violent" implication. We also had to make the characters more rounded looking to make them friendlier. I worked for Wolf Studios in Dublin....Good times.
That sounds awesome!!! That would have been a blast!!!
Damn that’s dope! That was always a dream of mine to be in animation in some way. When I got an opportunity, my wife said “don’t go because you will want to move to California and do it and we already have a house here and our family is here.” So I ended up not doing it. I always wanted to though because they (comic and animation artists) would see my stuff at comic conventions and on deviant art and say “you’re good enough to get your foot in the door”. I always wanted to know exactly what they meant like, was I entry level or was I a different type artist or was I like an apprentice or journeyman? I always wanted to define “good enough to get in the door”. I’m too old now though but I always wondered….
@@ludotoyhunter8492 Never too old. I went through the system though. I worked for Disney for a while when they had a studio in Florida, and also Bluth studios working on An American Tale and a few others.
@@snap-n-shoot so how’d you get hooked up with the studio exactly? Like did you just up and take your work out and shop it around or did you go to art school and get connected with people that way? What did you do to start initially?
@@snap-n-shoot have you seen the hand drawn Irish animation "The Secret Of Kells" by the Cartoon Saloon from Ireland? The animated Celtic designs are crazy. They've put a few movies. Wolfwalkers last year. Very cool on the job, I just do comics 👏
there is just some type of magic that takes effect every time you watch someone else draw that makes you feel like a kid again with that awe and wonder as the drawing just comes to life and seemingly completes itself. beautiful work!
Great job, buddy! You're really getting the hang of this drawing thing!
Woah awesome seeing you here too Scott!
Hey Scott big fan love ur vids!
Hang? Lol, way to stay humble whoever you are. Cho’s probably been around longer than you.. 😅 No offense just that your sentence sounded kinda.. well.. sounded like your cup’s over flow’n there.. spill some out for the rest of us! 😊
@@rietzhu Ha ha. It's all good. Frank's a buddy of mine. Just teasing him.
This dude is nice with it..😂
Loving the real time vids. watching the process is my favorite and your work is awesome!!
Great!! Enjoying the real time process.
Amazing illustration as always!
Wow it’s amazing to see a sketch come to life slowly. I have no idea where you get the skills to draw this well. Comic book artists are true artists.
dude, I used to draw this comic version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was like 10 or 11 years old and haven’t drawn them in 35 years.PROPS 🙌🏼
Awesome! Brings me back to when I was a kid.
Just awesome! Cheers
Really nice composition!
Love the work❤
Really nice! This is what i strive for!
Pretty cool. I only rarely draw ninja turtles, and sometimes transformers. In fact, usually when I draw, it's Sonic type or anime characters.
Really liked the longer video. Nice change of pace
That is really good! Great work!
Truly a work of art my friend.. keep up the Amazing work 🙏
AMAZING !!!
Awesome drawing. Was going to mention that I don't erase mine, that I get «in love» with them, but you rightfully mentioned that, and I must, I need, to start doing that to my drawing, for sure... Congrats!
Dope love the art 🎨
These videos are amazing and inspiring.
Great drawing! I love the decisions you made in the poses. You invigorated me and now I will go shade a few drawings I've been putting off for months 😵
It's not just beautiful, it's truly excellent. And I'm not a TMNT fan. I don't understand why you don't have many, many more views. CZcamsrs go to the videos of the most famous artists, but not necessarily the best.
Insane skill
This channel is amazing !
Excellent!
Hah this is awesome!
the best turtles for me, great
Wow... You're like, amazing dude...
I loved your Ms Marvel work.
I love those massive turtle muscles
You and I have a very similar technique in sketching, neat!
Any books on anatomy you would suggest? i enjoy your art style. and I like how you work through your drawings.
That's one cool turtle.
Damn 15 minutes? 😂 Shit looks amazing 👏
I love that it feels reminiscent of the old Eastman/Laird originals with the scowl
23:00 best ever. Love that advice
Wakizashi are the short swords, but "Um, Akshuualy" yes! Leonardo DID dual wield katana NOT wakizashi. I mean they were depicted in different stories wielding deferent weapons from time to time, but primarily Leo had two katana.
Well, I'm not 100% certain, but as far as I know, they never specifically give the type of swords that Leonardo uses in the comics (or any other mediaーagain, •as far as I know•). If I'm wrong about this or anything else here, please feel free to chime in lol
Anyway, just from what I know about blades and blade types (probably an unhealthy amount, actually… 🙄), as well as the way that Leo •typically• uses them, I've gotta' say that I •believe• they're neither wakazashi nor katana/uchigatana. The wakazashi's standard size doesn't match those used by Leonardo. Conversely, it's pretty widely known (at least among blade aficionados ×D) that katana are two-handed weapons. And as much of a hard-ass as Splinter is, I couldn't see him letting Leo get by with improperly using his weapons ×D
As I've already mentioned, I'm a bit of a blade buff and a collector of all things sharp and pointyーas well as •a lot• of other somewhat "childish" things… 🤷♂️~😅 Still, I'm •not exactly• an expert on the matter. But just based on what I do know, I've narrowed it down to three •potential• suspects. Without further ado, I'm •almost positive• that they're one of these three, starting at #1, being the least likely:
1. The kodachi (小太刀 or こだち - "small/short tachi"ーa tachi being a type of Japanese two-handed [long]sword that predates widespread use of the uchigatana). It's possible that this medium-sized blade is the one… though pretty unlikely. Leo's blades are •most often• depicted as being single-edged weapons that have either no curve or a •very• slight oneーhence my reason for including the kodachi;
2. The chokutō/chokutou (直刀 or ちょくとう - "straight sword"). This one's more like it. As the Japanese name implies, these blades have no curve •whatsoever•, which, as you can see, matches Leo's swords' most common depiction… However, while there's •technically• no listed standard for their length and weight, they're often depicted as being fairly longーa bit too long to be the correct one. Plus… well, you'll see ×Þ;
3. The •ninjatō/ninjatou• (忍者刀 or にんじゃとう - "ninja sword"). These blades were depicted as being •roughly• 20-35% smaller than the chokutō, but were otherwise indistinguishable from them. They're also some of the lightest blades ever made! Despite their •relatively• large size, thanks to revolutionary Japanese innovations in steel manufacturing and heat-treating, there were European and mainland Asian •daggers• that weighed more than these swordsーthat's no exaggeration either! Plus, it's even in the name… ×D 忍者刀 literally translates to "ninja sword." They had a fairly long, single-edged, straight blade, just like the Turtles' fearless battlefield leader's swords. As far as I'm concerned, that basically clinches it... though I doubt anyone even really cares all that much. . . lmao
@nlmarkas 'too-long-didn't-read' but I will say this, Eastman and Laird don't even WANT to know any of what you just said, and I'd be willing to wager that they meant for them to be "katanas", the only word that most Westerners know for 'Ninjee' swords.
And I do forget the name, but there was at least one real Samurai swordsman who was famous for dual wielding katanas. And katanas aren't actually very heavy, owing to the narrow blade. Lots of western swords with comparable lengths were wider, heavier, AND used one-handed, paired with a shield. The "longsword" to name the most common and familiar example.
@ericsmith1508 Well, there's no reason to be curt, man… 🤨 I honestly wasn't trying to one-up you or anything ‐.‐ I'm sincerely sorry if it came out that way. Living with OCD, I tend to obsess over insignificant or •largely• irrelevant thingsー•most especially•, linguistics, historical facts and the "lost" arts of melee weaponry, including their construction, use, upkeep and restoration 🙄 I guess you could say that I'm just naturally pedantic. To be totally frank, I hate that aspect of myself. Not only is it typically, •acutely• embarrassing, but it often leads to unwelcome social repercussions. Again, I do apologize.
…However, again, I must disagree. Straight blade spines and a tanto style bevel and tip are all hallmarks of ninjatō (as well as their larger relative, the chokutō); whereas katana/uchigatana are •always• curved (to varying degrees). And as I stated beforeーa statement that was •apparently• [somewhat rudely] ignoredーit's even in the name. (Go, ninja! Go, ninja…tō? Lol 😆)
…Though, I feel that I should also admit that you were •absolutely right• about there having been cases in which samurai broke the norm and switched to using either their katana and accompanying wakazashi, or even dual-wielding their katana along with one of their fallen comrades. It just wasn't common practice, at least not by the time of the Sengoku period (Date Masamune was a famous exception, though ^^). I do hope you read this one, even in spite of its perceived irrelevance and pedantry 😞
0.3 pentel is what I use, .7 is like a crayon🖍️ HB is too dark like a 4B, had 3H, or a 8H regular pencil🖋️🤣 nice drawing
Amazing
Magnífic
awesome
Muy bueno e inspirador
Solid.
That's keep 💯🎯💪
Looks alive, very well done. Will thus be inked and colored on CZcams?
Hopefully we're get a TMNT series drawn by you some day.
You rule man
I enjoy your videos so much. If you can upload the videos at the original speed it would be extra nice!! Thank you
Thank you
Do you plan on bringing out another Skybourne series?
This is badass, and the swords are considered katanas
in this case it's wakizashi
@@johnnielurker cool
How did you learn how to draw like this?
Cowabunga, dude!
Wakizashi “Japanese short sword”.
The funny part is this IRL sketching. If it's me I'll probably take two hours
Thanks Sensei
ninja sword/short sword is wakizashi

Just making the shit look way too easy! 😂😂
I want to know how to draw the ninja turtles like that
Hey Frank how about a Judge Dredd piece next time?
Yes please
Judge dredd vs. Captain falcon
This dude is a magician
I wish I can draw quick and easy like that my drawing take so long and to many mistakes
Please do all TMNT turtles
Leonardo uses two unequal Katana sword in length. The long sword is called daito (lomg sword) and shoto (short sword)
Did you know the two turtles from the original Rocky are still alive
Ide like to see some dope versions of "DarkWing Duck, the tick, Maxx, duke nukem, battle toads, ninja guiden... Etc.
This turned out really cool!🔥 Regarding the feet - I have noticed that in some older tmnt figures the turtles actually did have three fingers on their feet 😄
Cool. but some gore would have made it cooler! (just joking!)
Daredevil??...i think it was more a combination of teen titans, daredevil and xmen..
It looks like he's tracing from photographic memory! Jesus fucking Christ lol
I always think of John Byrne vs. Rick Leonardi as early examples I noticed of geometric understructure vs. the power of the wandering line. I love Byrne's lightbulb people, but I ended up a half-assed Leonardi
