Complex Trauma Meets Psychedelic Enthusiasm, by Jim Hopper, Ph.D.

Dr. Jim Hopper, trauma expert and therapist for MDMA-assisted therapy research, addresses some risks and harms often overlooked in the current wave enthusiasm about psychedelics. For people with complex trauma, reenactments of early childhood neglect and abandonment - and failures by clinicians to repair the therapeutic relationship - are significant risks that must be addressed in the training, supervision and oversite of MDMA- and psychedelic-assisted therapists. Dr. Hopper gave this talk in May of 2022 at Bessel van der Kolk's annual trauma conference.
