    Alphonso Davies would probably be the biggest counter example as he did play a good amount in MLS before going to Europe and might be the best player in Concacaf. With that said, Zach Steffen, Eric Palmer Brown and even Mix Diskerud were signed to Manchester City at one point. How serious are they, or if they just like having a young American on the roster for marketing reasons, is yet to be seen.

    Great to see him start his career, and stay at Union for the time being. They have a history of trusting, and integrating their youth.
    McKenzie, Sullivan, Mcglynn, Trusty and Aaronson x2. This will be good for him, and the concerns of “Going back to mom” won’t be there when he’s playing meaningful professional minutes so young.

    I usually agree with Herc, but he misses the big point. Pulisic and other went over in years past. The MLS keeps advancing. This statement is that MC considers the MLS to be better than those second division teams in Europe where our players used to go to develop. That's a good sign for US soccer, as much as I'm fed up with the MLS and its retirement league attitude.

      @@justtestingonce Oh, little boy, do tell, how many of the teams currently in the Championship have made it to the EPL in the last 10 years? More importantly, how many of the ones that made it stayed more than a year. Automatic promotion doesn't mean you're good enough to stay.
      As for thinking I don't know who Queens Park Rangers are, I've probably been paying attention to soccer longer than you've been alive.

    Sullivan can't go anywhere in Europe until he's 16 because of Europe's "anti-trafficking" rules. He can only go at 16 because he has the ability to get an EU-country passport. (Watch how quickly they change those "child trafficking" rules if MLS ever evolves a word class player development system.) The Sullivan situation is an outlier for North American soccer because although it's not uncommon that teams in Europe want NA players between 16 and 18 but can't get them because of the "anti-trafficking" rules (if the players aren't eligible for an EU-country passport) it's not common that they want to snap up NA players before they are 16. And likely if Sullivan didn't have a German passport Man City wouldn't be making this move for him when he's 14. What the Man City group could have done differently here, but chose not to (or maybe the Sullivans wouldn't agree to it) was to place Cavan with NYCFC, which they own, until he turned 16, instead of allowing him to stay with the Union.

    • @mattmexor2882
      @mattmexor2882 Před měsícem

      And... I seriously doubt Man City ever had a plan to send Cavan to the Belgian second division at 16. If they expected that to be his level at 16 they'd never have signed him. If that turned out to be his level at 16 they probably would have given up on him by that point. Also, I think we can expect if Cavan develops like Man City hope that they will still be moving him to Europe when he's 16 (but not to second-division Belgium). They don't need to own the club in order to move him somewhere. They can send him out on loan.
