  • Today I am showing you a really easy way to keep tapered roller bearings in your airhead wheels well greased.
The tool you need can be purchased here.

Great video, thanks for posting! I have acquired the grease adaptor from cycleworks, but was wondering if you could please post a link for a grease gun that is compatible with it? thanks again.

I am using a regular standard grease gun for it. I bought mine at a Tractor Supply store.

Just a clarification question, but I assume you use the tool from both sides of the wheel, correct?

Yes, both side and it works on front and rear wheel of our beloved bmw airheads.

Does it work with /5 Airheads as well?

I am not 100% on that let me check.

I just took a look on a parts fiche. The rear wheel is virtually identical with the /6. The front wheel has drum brakes and a smaller axle diameter. Front won't work, rear i am not 100% but let's say 97.375%.

It looks to me that unless that spacer has a hole or two in it, the O-rings are sealing against what turns out to be a deadhead.
Meaning the grease path is sealed. No path for the grease to flow to the bearing.

I measured that distance and the opening is right between the top hat spacer and the bearing. The grease goes in just fine. Thanks for your comment.

Heiko these are great videos! I particularly like the R65 as I have an 81 which is basically identical. Of course the fork boots were later added, a great idea.
Do you have one in the works for the brake lines?

@@twominutesinverted I just replaced them off camera. I might do a shirt one just for you. Thanks for the comment.
